Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

This is a wonderful sounding and playing guitar. I would feel confident jamming with it in a room full of Taylor and Martin players. It sounds that good! I own the A1CFM, A1FM, A3M and now an A3R. The A-series has provided me, a cost savings, journey of discovery regarding tone woods and solid verses laminate guitars. My only complaint with my purchase of the A3R is that it was shipped with a cheap 4 latch, flat topped entry level case. My A3M came with the Yamaha Vinyl Hardshell Case for LL, LI Series Steel String Guitar (ID - 106700792) Item #: H73160000000000
which is a premium arched topped case. A premium guitar should come with a premium case. Unfortunately this case is no longer available at Guitar Center and I assume that it has been discontinued by the manufacturer.

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

As a beginner playing guitar, I wanted a nice acoustic/electric guitar to learn and experiment on. The Yamaha A3R is perfect for just that! Has a nice sound to it, a little hollow, not as warm as a Gibson or Martin, but you are not paying a Gibson or Martin price either. The built-in tuner is spot on as I have checked it against my Boss TU-80 tuner. Stays in tune and has a nice action to it out of the box. The look and feel is very nice. Havent hooked it up to an amp as of yet, so I cant say how the pickup/equalizer sound. Comes with a decent case which is a plus. Overall, I am perfectly happy with it and enjoy it!

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

I bought one of these a few months ago to go along with a Taylor 414ce and a Seagull Maritime. While I love the Taylor neck (and the whole guitar), the volume and tone of the Yamaha are just better. I have A/B tested them to other guitar playing friends, and they have all agreed so far. I also played an A3M, which was also great, although not quite as loud and a somewhat different tone. I did have the action reworked to be more Taylor like. I also like the onboard tuner that with a click of a button shows if a string is high or low. I have not been able to explore the electronics to a meaningful degree. I played a lot of guitars before buying this one, and I am very happy with my choice. The biggest difficulty in buying this guitar is finding one to play before you buy.

            Yamaha A3R

            By michael

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

Played many, many guitars over the last few months. Found it difficult to make a decision on which acoustic/electric to buy. Read several very positive reviews on the Yamaha A3R so went to guitar center to play one. They did not have one in stock but based on the reviews I ordered the guitar, knowing that I could always return it. A few days later the guitar arrived and I took it home. This is one beautiful guitar! The acoustic sound is very rich, warm, loud, it's beautiful. Had an old Yamaha FGX-04 LTD and this guitar sounds and looks so much better (no comparison). The plugged in sound is amazing! Just to make sure, I took it back to GC and compared my new A3R with several Martins and Taylors in the $1,000-$2,000 range. After about an hour of playing all the guitars, i felt that my new Yamaha sounded at least as good if not better than the more expensive Martins and Taylors. There were customers in the guitar room that heard the comparison and agreed with me. I also feel that my A3R looks better. This was all unplugged, you can just imagine how much better the A3R sounds plugged in. The guitar has a very comfortable feel to it, hard to put down. Glad I checked out the reviews 1st and now have one great guitar!

            Beautiful Guitar, but not Thrilled

            By Robert

            from Apex, NC

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

The Yamaha A3R is an absolutely gorgeous guitar, and the workmanship is without flaw. Great to look at, the electronics are impressive and flexible, and the feel of the neck is nice. The sound and sustain are pleasant, but still I found I did not love playing it. The action was just too high for me. I am no rookie at adjusting guitars, but I was unable to adjust my A3R to my liking. I concluded that the nut clearance was too great, resulting in strings to far from the fingerboard. That means greater string depression required (harder on the fingers) and notes that are too high compared to open strings. Too high notes were noticeable on all strings when using a capo. But I did not feel I should have to replace the nut on a new guitar in order to make it tune right. Some reviewers said the A3R action was great out of the box, but my A3R was not great and I could not adjust it, so I returned the guitar. The A3R is the top of the A-Series line and I wanted to love it, but I did not enjoy playing it. Still, I hope my issues were just a fluke or quality control lapse, since aside from the action/tuning problems I had, this would be a great guitar.

            Shocked!

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

I visited a guitar center today to look at acoustics. I've been wanting a Taylor for years but my bank account can't handle it. I picked up a dozen different models and brands (including Taylor) and found myself picking this guitar up time and time again. I've played for 15 years and was shocked that I was playing a Yamaha. Aesthetically, this guitar looks good but is very basic. But close your eyes and listen to the sound and pay attention to the feel. This is a very dynamic guitar. I play a lot of electric and found this guitar to be very smooth. When I plugged it in I was amazed again. This guitar is replacing the Taylor on my wish list. For the money, this thing is unbeatable.
