SRT System
Bringing Back Lost Ambience; Yamaha's new proprietary Studio Response Technology (SRT) brings back the natural, ambient sound of an acoustic guitar, and it does it with the signal from the output jack. Using a sound modeling technique that utilizes data obtained through extensive analysis of four acoustic elements that are missing from conventional pickup systems- string and body resonance, ambience, vintage microphone characteristics, and professional micing techniques, SRT delivers The same tone that, until now, was only attainable by professional recording engineers in the world's finest studios is now easily usable by any player, on-stage or in the studio.

Using a sound modeling technique that utilizes data obtained through extensive analysis of four acoustic elements that are missing from conventional pickup systems- string and body resonance, ambience, vintage microphone characteristics, and professional micing techniques, SRT delivers a natural, studio-quality acoustic guitar tone. The same tone that, until now, was only attainable by professional recording engineers in the world's finest studios is now easily usable by any player, on-stage or in the studio. A sound that guitarists have long dreamed of is now a reality.

SRT Functions
The new SRT system lets you choose from three different high-end mic types as well as two mic positions that let you use techniques similar to those used in a recording studio. The system provides a total of six setting patterns. Click the buttons below the photos to hear the differences between various sound settings. The system also allows mixing of pickup and mic sound elements using the BLEND knob, and control of body resonance with the RESONANCE knob to create a wide range of rich, natural sounds. Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

I loved this guitar...well I wanted to. If you're not a professional musician who plays 3-4 times a week for multiple hours on each event this guitar would be great for you. The feel of the guitar is premium, from the semi-open pore neck, to the gloss and detail. The sound of this guitar is so versatile with being able to model a guitar being mic'd by some very high quality and famous mics. The issue is, like I mentioned above, I'm a professional musician that plays anywhere between 5-10 hours a week not including practice. I was burning through 2 AA batteries every 2 weeks...sometimes less. I didn't think this was right because every guitar I've ever owned goes months without replacing batteries. I knew that it was a powerful preamp/modeler so I expected the battery life to be a bit on the poor side, but not like this. I contacted Yamaha's Tech and explained my issue. His response was "Well, the battery life is 20hrs plugged in. You just gotta make sure you unplug it when you're done, man." So...pretty unprofessional, 2nd...if I'm playing a show that I'm on and off for a couple hours I'm not always going to unplug it.

In closing; this guitar is great. It sounds great, looks great, and feels great, but the battery life was the only thing that was lacking on this guitar. I could handle maybe something like 60hrs...but 20hrs plugged in? This isn't sufficient for any performing artist. Be warned of the battery life, and if you can deal with 20hrs of battery life then this is a solid guitar for the price.

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

I've been an electric player for over 50 years, I just needed an acoustic to work on developing my solo skills. This guitar does that well, I put 10g Black Beauties on it as I don't want to tear up my fingers on heavy acoustic strings, and this way I can easily go from my electric stuff to this guitar. I was surprised how good the the tones and sustain are with these light strings but I'm sure it would sound fuller with 11's or 12's, I just don't want to retrain my left hand muscles/calouses. With this guitar/case package, I'm able to do what I want, with a nice gig ready sound, and not break the bank. If you don't want to haul around a 3000 guitar but want a reasonably high quality and stable instrument, this may be what you're looking for.
