  • Great Learner Keyboard

As reviewed by JEFF EHRENHART on 10/3/2011

I used to play professionally in a band and always played Roland boards. With that being said I didn't want to spend too much money as this board was primarily for my children to learn to play piano. Since they are just starting I wanted to purchase a cost effective option and that is just what I got. This board has some pretty good samples and sounds pretty good. Great board for learning to play and the casual player. Would recommend for these purposes.

  • Best Ever!!!

As reviewed by Ivanii Palucho on 4/4/2011

First off, I bought this to replace an upright piano I gave away, and to possibly replace an organ we got as a gift. I also wanted something I could use in my recording studio, or at band rehearsals. This keyboard fits the bill nicely...with 88, full-sized weighted keys, it feels and plays just like a real piano, and that's important to the keyboardists who come over to record with me. With a 1/4" jack the output can be run to an amp for rehearsals, or into an audio interface for direct recording. Finally, the MIDI Out on the rear allows me to use it as a simple controller keyboard for any virtual instruments I'm using in my audio workstation. Best of all, it has some of the best sounds I've ever heard in an all-in-one keyboard...the acoustic pianos are gorgeous, the "jazz organ" is a more-than-passable Hammond B3 clone, there's a pipe organ, two electric piano patches (based on the Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer, from what I can tell.) The choir voicings sound nice, the strings sound amazingly real, and the vibraphone patch is one of the best I've ever heard. Really happy I bought this keyboard! Would've liked to have paid less than I did for it, but this sort of quality isn't usually going to be found in the lowest-cost tier

  • Best Keyboard Value out there

As reviewed by Bill Meyer on 1/30/2010

I've owned numerous Yamaha keyboards, starting with a PSR-640 a number of years back. Most of my playing these days is piano, but the YPG-535 does so much more. I actually had the 635, and "downscaled" to the 535 not because there was anything wrong with it, but that years of playing and typing leave me with a touch of repetitive motion issues. The graded touch of the 535 keeps me playing and loving it. Grand Piano sound is incredible, especially for the price. Sweet sounds are also excellent. The only feature I wish these Yamahas had is a true line out. As it is they make the headphone jack double as a line out. It's a bit noisier for recording purposes for that reason. Other than that, you want 88-keys, vibrant, yet softer touch keyboard, and all the sounds most folks need, pick yourself up a YPG-535.
