I have this floor(16x16) a
16x14 rack tom used as a floor, a 14x12 rack tom and a 24x17 bass. All of these drums
have a deep, rich tone, with a bright powerful attack. The factory heads are useless, I slapped on Evans Hydraulic Glass; Man! these drums came alive with tone! the attack is brutal but smooth! with a quick decay and no overtones.
The natural wood finish is a gorgeous high luster gloss that is WOW! to look at. These drums are what all drums aspire to be!! At any price! Buy them !!
After reading other reviews, I thought I would give my two cents.
I have this kit in the natural wood finish AND I have a Tama kit. I wasn't impressed by the stock heads on either set but then, I had absolutely no intentions of using them anyway...
One reviewer commented that he had to put lock washers on the tension rods to keep them from loosing up. I have to re-tune both kits (probably because heads stretch) so I really don't see why he thinks Tama is better.
As far as sound, after playing both, my Tama kit is louder but Yamaha kit sounds twice as sweet. The yamaha kit is much more versatile, as I play R&B and Metal/Metalcore. My Tama kit is now being used as a backup kit or if I'm playing a party where I'm unmiked and really need to be much louder.
I have the Raven Black set and had to put lock washers on all the lugs. After a few hours of playing, tuning went to poo and heads came loose, nothing a few lock washers fix. I regret going with Yamaha and should of stuck with Tama...
Stock heads are crap,I put on G2s,sounds great and lots of attack, finish is nice as well.
