I have owned several quality brand kits over the years(Ludwig,Gretsch,Rogers etc..) and all of them were great; but these Yamaha Stage Custom Birch drums have a very powerful attack that cuts right through amplified music with a deep, clear and throaty sound(like an early american V-8) I bought the 14x12 rack tom a 16x14 rack(used as #1 floor) and a 16x16 floor, capped it all off with a 24x17 bass.Put Evans Hydraulic Glass on the toms cause the factory heads suck!!(too many overtones) now they Nice and punchy with a clear brutal attack and minmal ring. Swapped factory resonant heads with factory batters,that helped with the overtones even more.The bass has a pillow stuffed in until my EmadII arrives to complete the sound. I think these drums compete with the higher priced competition. give em a try you'll see, then you'll buy em. Natural wood finish is "B E A utiful"
