The real truth is that I went to GC and picked up a pair of JBL JRX monitors because of all the hype about JBL. I took them back within a week as they were complete junk. Took a shot in the dark on these Yamahas and never looked back. Unlike the JBLs these are clean on the bottom end and crystal clear in the mid and upper range. Great vocal monitor! The real advantage is the clean Bass response in such a small package. This monitor will cut through any mix. Most monitors are good at one thing yet this one is good at everything. Has all the features you will ever need from connections to pole mounts to multiple cabinet angles. Handles are well built and placed in easy to grab and carry locations. Don't try to skimp and buy a cheaper monitor - you are better off with as much speaker as you can afford...scrimp somewhere else if you have to, but buy these monitors!
My band purchased 4 SM15V's about 3 or 4 years ago, and they are still pumping out great sound. We were convinced these were the ones after using the club V 15 mains, and a pair of 18" subs. Yamaha is the BEST bang for the buck, without sacraficing any sound quality. If you listen to them next JBL's it will make the JBL's (costing almost twice as much)sound like an old AM radio! In fact we were so happy with Yamaha's products, we upgraded our Mackie CFX 12 mixer to a Yamaha MG24FX! Downside to yamaha speakers, HEAVY!!!!! (57-67 lbs)These speakers are back-busters, especially hauling all 8 of them into venues. They are bullit-proof though, been used for well over 100 shows, and havent had to replace any woofers or tweeters. (each cab has 500W pushed into them and 800W into subs). I recommend the club V series yamahas to anyone and everyone! (as long as you dont have a bad back)
I bought a pair of the 15" Yamaha speakers and these bump! I was looking between these and a set of JBL speakers. When turned up on my QSC amp, the Yamaha hold their sound with great quality worth every penny. Versus the JBL they are worth the extra price for the better sound.
