I own a 4 piece Yamaha Recording Custom in a rare Gun Metal Grey (no longer made) and this kit has to be to most consistent, sonorously fat sounding kit I have played. The Bass is a 16 by 22, with the right heads, that punches the low end with enormous sound and attack; the toms are phenominal with 13" & 15" that sing but make heads pop-up with its attack and low-end ring. I coupled the birch with maple shells on the high toms and it rivals and exceeds any custom wood kit! The investment is a shoe in and I will be played this kit till I pass on!! Excellence is the key and this delivers!
I have one of these, and i must tell you, this is the best drum ever created. With features like birch shells, stained insides and lacquer finishes, you can not go wrong. They have awesome tone, its hard to describe the sound. It sounds awesome for jazz, but you can tune it down and get an extremely FAT sound out of it. Yamaha makes great products, this one is awesome to say the least.
