The perfect entry-level bass

The RBX170 is a solid product. I've owned mine for almost 4 years and I couldn't have picked a better bass for the price. The sounds from the pickups are decent, but produce a lot of hum (you do get what you pay for). The tonal palette is wide, however. Through my Fender Rumble 100, I can go from a dense dub sound to a biting Squire-esque tone. The thin neck plays fast and the unique cutaway lets you hit all 24 of the frets. You'll also appreciate the light body a few hours into a set. Unlike other basses in its class, this Yamaha stays solidly in tune and doesn't require high maintenance. It definitely inspires playing rather than hindering it. I recommend this bass to anyone who is starting out on bass or looking for an inexpensive back-up.

Excellent bass

I have owned this bass for 5 years now i bbought it to learn and have now exceeded it and am moving on to a Warwick corvette. However i digress. This bass is amazing, it has an extremely good p and j setup for it's pickups and delivers a powerful punch for such a low-end bass. The body is light and contours perfectly for when you want to play while sitting. It's neck is thin enough to be comfortable for fast playing. there are a few issues with it especially concerning the gap between the string and the body. slapping and poping become a little bit uncomfortable. Also the knobs are constantly loosening up and make an annoying rattle and hum when playing at higher volumes.

My First Bass

I got this as a christmas present as my first bass. It's been good to me ever since. Only problem i've had with it is that I broke the jack cover after I droped it on it (because its plastic). But that wasnt a big deal, just get another metal one for about 5 bucks. Has a nice sound, and its easy to adjust it. The split P/J pickup layout is great. I get compliments on it all the time, on its ease of use and its weight (its very light). Most people think that it costed much more than it actually does. This is a great choise for a beginner who has a low budget.

Awesome beginner bass

I used to own to RBX170 Bass when i first started playing bass, and before I switched to guitar. This bass is SO amazingly light that it's almost unbelievable. This bass is pretty bassy for such a cheap price. I've used it for several shows, and it only failed me during my last show when the jack broke..but this was only after 2 years of intense abuse. Although the guitar has a cheap plastic feeling to it, it is easy to manuever around the neck and the frets are pretty close together. Awesome beginner's bass.

Good Beginner Bass.

well I've had an older version of this bass for nearly 4 years now, and it's been holding up just fine. I had to fix some things with the bridge and tuning keys late last year, and the imput jack is kinda crappy, but overall, i'd say it's a good beginner bass. put together with the right strings, it's a solid bass.

Great Buy

Bought this bass as a replacement a few months ago. I am very pleased with the range of tones available from the P/J pickups. Easy to play, solid built. No problems with the electronics. Can't be beat for a begginer base. Great sound and price, highly recommended!

Second best, well worth it

I already own a Gibson Ripper, so I know a good bass when I play one. Hell, I've used almost every bass guitar over at my guitar center! And I recently got a yamaha, this one that is, and I love it. Now, it's no the Ripper, but it is second best to me. If you don't have enough money to get a Corvette or Firebird, I'd say take this. It has a large range due to it's combo of two prescision and one jazz bass pickup(s), and if you have money lying around after you've bought this, you can easily upgrade your pickups for a sound that you'd get for a bass that is MUCH pricier. To the point of range, I use this bass more for jazz, funk, etc. rather than rock, but it can easily give you a strong roar and a very round, low-bass sound that you'd get with ...say a cheap Dean, which still would be more expensive than the yamaha, even with upgraded pickups. So I'd say if you're starting out, or you've been playing long enough that you have different basses for different music, or you know what's best for upgrading, I'd say buy this guitar, it's a steal at this price!

SOLID

This bass is fine for just about anything you wanna play. I've had mine for a couple of years with no problems. Its a given that its not the greatest bass you could buy, but you can definately rock out on this thing, and thats really what its all about.

LEGIT BASS

This bass is So awesome... I am in the market to upgrade to a Fender Jaguar (Just because of the sound i can get out of it) but for the Money you spend, this bass is flawless... From the store, i have only had to make some minor adjustments to get the sound i wanted (Like adding a piece of foam rubber at the bridge between the strings and the body to take out some of the extra ring) but the sound is amazing. i have been playing bass for a while and i have to say, that if you are a starting out, this is a great bass to learn on...
