Product Information

The Yamaha QT-1 is a compact quartz metronome. Volume control allows you to hear the beat over loud music, and two different beat sounds make for pleasant practice sessions. Also features a flashing red indicator light, and tempos that can be set from 40 to 280 bpm. (Note: Black model has blue base.)

Blue metronome

Starting with the color, I do not like the turqoise top but thats all they had the other day. I tried out a Korg metronome but that one has a muted high noted xylophone sound to it. This Yamaha has more of a wooden metronome sound to it. The first position is similar to the WWV (shortwave broadcast 10.000 Mhz) second time click. It is a low sound like striking a 1/2" dowel with a drumstick. The second position sounds more like (to me) dripping water on a square Glad sandwich container. It is not unpleasant to listen to like the Korg model (for comparison). The beat is selected by a dial on the bottom along side the volume control which I set at about a 3 for everyday practice on the table. Not too loud but not too soft. The volume level below 3 tapers off real quick though. Overall, I am very satisfied with the pleasant woody tone of the click, and of the choice of tones. I would definately recommend this one for someone interested in the sound rather than the doodads, buttons, gimmicks and unnecessary add ons.

It's all about listening.

I am a professional guitar and bass teacher and this is my favorite recommended metronome. The volume of the click is loud enough, the timbre distinct enough, to be heard with a guitar so the player can listen to both elements at the same time easily. And the two different click sounds are good for switching when you need to change up (because a practicing musician will sort of "hypnotize" him or herself out of hearing a metronomic click after a sustained period). The QT1 is an uncomplicated and effective piece of gear. I have enjoyed mine for many years now.
