WONDERFUL sound. Intuitive if you're a little familiar with Yamaha keyboards. GREAT styles. I am a working entertainer (over 200 shows a year) and NOTHING comes close to this at this price. And to point out something I think another reviewer missed: If you turn on the "auto fill-in" button you have FIVE fills including the separate break button which gives you a full stop fill in addition to the fills that lead to the 4 variations. Astonishingly good. If you play at all as a "one-man-band" this is your keyboard.
If you are a composer and you want to quickly capture your ideas instead of settings, buttons, and tweaks, this is the machine for you. With its realistic styles and heavenly mega voices, this machine rocks! Recording to USB storage device, and even playing from that device is super. If you tire of styles (and there are many and they are great) you can download new ones from Yamaha as well as other sites. Also, download songs directly into the machine via Direct Connection. This keyboard is more than I expected and it has helped me to quickly put together new compositions that sound incredible. The price is sure to rise...so get one NOW!!!
I received my S710 about 3 weeks ago now. I was excited to get it, but it's got so many features that it has taken a while for me to really feel comfortable with it.
This is such a commanding tool in the hands of someone who will learn to use it, it's just amazing. Every part of this thing is adjustable. Someone mentioned the styles. Each of these has 3 intros, 4 variations, a break, and 3 endings. There are 232 of these styles on board, but using a USB stick, I have more than 4,000 available instantly, together with hundreds of voices, kits, etc.. I've never even heard anything that sounds more incredible and is so flexible-especially for the price. If that weren't enough, you can mix and match, adding just about anything you want, giving you an unparalleled and lush listening experience. Further, you can design your own styles, kits, and voices. Recording is a breeze, either midi or wave.
The display is large and bright, with a black and white screen that is crisp and easy to read. All of the controls are well laid out and highly intuitive.
Even though this is a 61 key machine, the press of a key will give you the range and control of an 88 keyboard.
The one problem I have with the keyboard is that connecting to the internet is more complex than it should be.
The only better portable arranger keyboards that I can think of are the PSR S910 and the TYROS 3. Then again, the S910 costs 650 Dollars more and the TYROS 3 is 3500 Dollars more.
Read all you can. I think that the S710 and S910 are the best keyboards fhat money can buy, and I have no regrets for having chosen the S710.
I spend several hours a day practicing, and look forward to years of bringing greater listening pleasure to those who hear the music-including myself. This keyboard is capable of taking an average player and turning him/her into a performer of exquisite caliber within a matter of weeks.
Thanks Yamaha!
