A Good Learner

The p85 for me is an excellent piano, for those who are beginners, and even for those who are advanced. It comes with a metronome, a sound recorder, and a few other interesting features. Also the keys are waited, so it feels like your actually a real piano. It is a great musical instrument, that delivers outstanding performance.

Great piano - complicated programming

The p-85 piano is great, it feels like real one. We are very happy with that. The only con I have is that you have to make sure you don't lose that one page sheet where you have instructions how to program some features otherwise you might be stuck with something you don't want. For example to get the right setting of the Metronome you have to hold combination of the buttons plus keys. I have tied that but couldn't change the setting anyway. This same applies to playing demos (it works) but instead naming the music pieces they have called each piece by number (I guess the designer was not an artist - it was the IT guy). So you will have song 1 song 2 song 3 ... etc like there is no such thing as composer, title or player... Anyway, general impression is very good. One more detail - this piano is not coming with the stand bench so you will endup on spending another $100 buks for that otherwise you can put your piano onthe kichen counter :-)

Love it for what it does well

I was looking for a quality product that was really good at two things, but also affordable: Realistic weighted keys (heavier on the bottom and lighter on the top), and a great piano sound. The P-85 delivers on this in big ways. I didn't care about any other sounds, or the ability to record on it, or do anything else. I just wanted a good piano that I could play at home or on stage, write songs on, use as a midi keyboard, and have something light to take with me to rehearsals. I didn't realize when I first purchased it that it didn't have an audio output jack on the back of it to run to a PA system if you want to play on stage. It's got two headphone jacks that you can use to run to a PA system, but then the onboard speakers get disabled in the process, so make sure that you understand this ahead of time. It does the trick perfectly for me though. Nice and light too!

Yamaha P-85

If you want a ton of sounds this isn't the keyboard to get. If you want REALISTIC piano sound and feel then the Yamaha P85 is the the best keyboard for the money. The controls are easy to use which is great on stage, or for someone just learning. The graded hammer action is incredible. All the sounds are good (Piano, organ, clavi, electric pianos, strings). I use to play a Rhodes 88 stage and can tell you that this Yamaha keyboard sounds just like a real Rhodes, and weighs a LOT less! The Wurlitzer piano sound is a little tinny in the higher octaves when amplified but still very realistic. Both Organ sounds are great. The only negative is the expression pedal that comes with the keyboard. It dosen't feel like a pedal on an acoustic piano and it slides all over the place. Buy one of the better Yamaha expression pedals when you make your purchase. Terrific price, very portable, great sound and feel. Can't go wrong.

Great Keyboard

I needed a good sounding 88-key digital piano that I could use with my other instruments in my basement, because my grand piano is in a different room. This keyboard was perfect! Although it does not have many diferent voices, it sounds like a real piano and feels just like my Yanaha grand piano. The internal speakers are pretty good, but I like to use it through my Roland keyboard amp, where it sounds even better! If you're looking for a good sounding, portable digital piano, the Yamaha P85 is the keyboard for you!
