My first "stage" piano and definitely worth it.

I recognize that the P70 lacks 1/4" phono outputs (it has 1/8" ones), and it's lean on features and intuitiveness (most options are selected by holding a function button and pressing a key on the keyboard), but the quality of the synths is very high, the key feel is realistic and robust, and it's a joy to play. For a practice piano and for small-venue use (think coffee house), you can get by very well with this model. As a home-use piano it fits the bill just fine and is probably the most cost-effective Yamaha (the CP-33 is twice the price!)

Terrible choice for jam sessions or gigs

I enjoyed the sound, feel, and limited features of the keyboard. However, the internal speakers are average, and the only way to plug in to an external amplifier or speaker is through the 1/8-inch headphone jack. Also, the lack of buttons (it uses keys to change sounds, add effects, split sound, etc.), makes it difficult to switch sounds during a song. A good choice for a stay-at-home, practice-only instrument, but not practical for jam sessions or gigs.

Perfect for getting back into playing!

I used to play when I was younger and found myself missing my old upright piano at home!. Seeing as a full upright piano is not a very economical option to get back into the habit of playing, the Yamaha p70 delivered everthing I was hoping out of a digital piano. The keys are one of its best features, with full wight and great response. The sound is clean and the full 88 keys make for the best non piano piano experience you can get for under 1000 dollars! While by no means am i a professional musician, the yamaha P70 is a great addition to anyone who is learning, experienced, or like me getting back into it, without having to sacrifice some of the more important qulities of actually playing a real piano. I love it!

What happened?

I just bought this from Guitar Center. I didnt take a look at the specs thinking that it had what I needed. But no. There are no Audio ins or outs, just the MIDI. The tones are amazing but when used as a MIDI controller it put an infintie sustain on everything in every program I have. The VSTs in Acid, the synths in Reason, and the VSTs in Cubase. Im returning it for the M-Audio Prokeys88.

To Mike From Reno

Ive used this device for a midi controller and what you're talking about doesn't make sense, Theres something up with your settings for the sustain to be a constant throughout the song. For reason you have to check to make sure it is accepting the on/off parameter window not sure exactly what it is called at this very moment because i'm on a computer that doesn't have reason on it but i assure you it isn't the device's fault more like a UCFTP issue. =) the only issue is there isnt quarter inch outputs oh well =)
