I bought the NP-V80 at a New York Guitar Center about a week ago. I needed an alternative to my Yamaha upright piano for after-hours practicing and composing. I have to say this instruments feels good and sounds good. I'm really comfortable with the non-weighted keyboard, and the acoustic and electric piano sounds are fine for my purposes. I don't expect "sounds just like" from any electronic simulation; all I want is something that's musically useful, and the NP-V80 really satisfies in that regard. The fact is, I enjoy playing it (primarily though earphones).
I have a few gripes; for me middle C is set an octave too low and you can't change that globally and store it; your only option is to keep resetting it each time you power up or change voices. You can save the voice with the altered octave setting as one of 32 possible "registrations," but that function strikes me as confusing and clunky, both for storage and access. I'll probably get used to it and learn to live with it.
This beast is loaded with a lot of auto-play, "style," and "song" functions, which I would never use, but they might be appealing to other potential buyers. Besides the pianos, there are many other insrtumental voices that I may explore as time goes on. Some of the acoustic guitar sounds are nice, but there's not much in the way of organs, either tonewheel or liturgical. However, you can do splits and layers, which might help the existing organ voices somewhat. I'll fool around with that gradually.
The bottom line is that the unit is affordable, really light in weight but solidly constructed, and it fills my immediate need. I can recommend it to pro piano players who want an electronic alternative that sounds and feels good and won't bust their bankroll or give them an instant hernia when they need to move it from here to there. This is a really nice instrument that delivers well within its limits.
