  • So far I am non-stop amazed..

As reviewed by Ronnie on 9/20/2010

I have had these monitors for just a day now, and I just can't stop listening to them. First thing I did when I went back to my old music is start fixing things because these speakers are so honest and transparent that I can hear every detail. You don't even have to be a great sound engineer to be able to make your music sound better with these. Another thing I've noticed is somehow now I can tell if other people's music is well produced or not. I listen to some folk music that you can tell is poorly recorded, and then listen to something like Radiohead (especially their electronic songs) and you can just tell the difference in production quality. These monitors definitely make you more discerning from the moment you start using em. A lot of people whine about the bass not being as strong, but as someone here said, the speakers on the market tend to over-do the bass in order to sell the speakers (because of course it will sound nicer if it's colored) but these speakers are just plain honest. In fact, the first thing I appreciated about these is the bass! The bass sounds so defined and clean! It's not muffled at all. About buying the sub, I think it's a great investment (though very expensive) but unless your music is all about sub-bass like some dub-step or rap beats this has got all the bass you'll need. Buying the sub will let you define and really compose the sub part of the music, but you can still do it without. I couldn't be happier with these, if these broke I'd buy em again in a heart-beat. 5/5 for sure! :D (BTW, they sound amazing as amplifiers too! Very loud and defined. Great for amplifying vocals!)

  • Honest

As reviewed by ed on 6/4/2010

Great monitors. I tried out several at the store(certainly not ideal conditions), and these stood out the most in my price range. I was going to get the KRK Rockit 5s, but they sounded like I would want my home stereo to sound. The Yamahas were so much clearer, but at a price. I could have gotten away just using these alone, but I ended up getting the matching HS10W as well. Easy integration, and it really lest me hear what`s going on in the bottom. Mixes sound good on everything, and compared to my old speaker setup, this is fast and easy mixing.

  • Makes my music better!

As reviewed by bandeeto on 5/31/2011

The title says it all. I've been working through some decent headphones and always had trouble getting my mixes to sound good on different speaker setups and in different locations. Not any more. Consistency and accuracy. That's what these monitors bring to the table. Can't ask for anything more. Not as much low end as i'd like, but Yamaha already knows this so they make the 8" monitors or add a sub. After using the 50M's for a couple weeks though i realized that speaker response is more similar to what most listeners will hear than if I switched to the higher bass setups. I stayed with the 50M's and am so glad I did. Simply put, my music sounds better.
