NEW REVIEW - Aweseome....But
I've been in the industry for over 1/3 a century, wow has it changed. As for drums this is one of the VERY positive changes. As for Tube amps and real wood guitars, that's Rock! I needed a new set so I didn't have to constantly go over to my studio.
Being an engineer (Wild how most of us lead that dual life), I wanted to try a pro-sumer set to lay new tracks. This set borders more on the pro than consumer side......BUT! The HitHat RHH-135, I have heard can be adjusted to actually work...Still trying to use it without the end of a rake!
Main reason I give this a 4.....THE WORST DOCUMENTATION EVER!!! Yamaha, et.al. how often this subject arises. Bottom line AWESOME set!
WORST documentation!
Easiest way to set up? Learn Katakana or ignore the abysmal documentation! Actually NONE of the documentation languages work! But the kit is a BLAST!

Best eDrum Value
You can spend three times as much but the extra $$$'s won't by you more. Solid/sturdy eKit that can take a beating and sounds absolutely great. With the enhanced features (IV vs III series) there is no reason to purchase any other eKit. You will not be disappointed. From a sound tech, musician monitor mix perspective, life is simple!

technology is a crazy thing.
Yamaha really outdid themselves with this. The sound is so realistic. the pads are so sophisticated that it makes a different sound when you hit it, rather than a different volume. if youre a drummer, and you dont have enough room for a full kit, this is your kit. this thing is gonna be mine soon... i suggest you make the same decision.

Sweet kit, just need to dial it in
I bought this kit when the noise from my acoustic became an issue. It arrived very fast via UPS in 3 boxes. The frame/rack is all pre assembled, which is nice. The kit's wires are all bundled and labled which was very nice/easy to set up. My only concern initialy was my double kick pedal seemed to miss/not trigger when doing quick doubles on the pedal. I found that if you use the DYNAMIC trigger setting this fixes it all. You will want to max the gain on your hi-hat, but all in all I am very happy!

Very nice electric kit for the $$$s
I got this kit mainly to allow me to practice late at night or early in the morning, and not wake up my family. It has worked out great for this purpose. I have started using it during our band practices as we all use in-ear monitors and the volume is so much less and easier to control than my acoustic drum set. I'm considering using it at gigs for the same reason. Like most electric kits, the hi-hat and cymbals are limited relative to what you can do with real cymbals. If I do play out with these I'm going to at least use real cymbals. I had one of the first DTXpress models about 8 years ago and the rack and hardware on this one is MUCH better. Overall, a great product and great value.

Yamaha DTXpress IV Special
The Yamaha DTXpress IV special ekit is one of the most powerful drum tools I have ever used. It is in a nutshell a pro-level electric drum set for half the price of its big name counterparts.(Roland)
Pads: The set comes with rubber pads for cymbals, toms, etc. While they are not quite as good as mesh heads which provide more quietness and extra stick rebound the yamaha pads are very realistic feeling and are almost slilent when headphones are used. Also you get a three zone snare which vastly expands your sound capability and a three zone ride with does that as well. The pads trigger very nicely with no delays or double triggering. No complaints with the pads whatsoever.
Module: The module that comes with the kit is likely the only one you will ever need on it. With 40 preset kits, built in metronome, groove check feature, recording capability, and more the module is perhaps the best part of the kit. The sounds are amazing in realism with even the hihat voices sounding like that of an acoustic set. The quality of the sounds is comparable to the roland td kits. It is very easyto use and after only a few hours you will be able to navigate it perfectly. It's a great brain for the DTXpress.
Hardware: The rack that comes with the set is very sturdy and surprisingly light weight and compact. You can disassemble the entire kit within about ten minutes and your good to go. The only complaint I have about the hardware of the kit is that the clamps that secure the kit's components to the rack are plastic. They haven't had problems with me yet but metal clamps would be much better and sturdier.
Overall the Yahmaha DTXpress IV special is a great kit for intermediate to pro drummers that are looking for great quality for a fraction of the price of a roland kit. Yoyu will not find a better kit for anywhere near this price and even if you did have the bucks to spend I would still go with this kit because really your getting just about the same thing. Great kit.

Incredible!
This kit is absolutely amazing for the price you pay for it. Hundreds of different sounds, all endlessly changeable. There is a variety of different songs on it, from rock to blues to jazz to weird techno-ey stuff (fun to play around with), and you can record your performance, along with a song or not. 2 chokeable three-zone cymbals (plus a one zone cymbal), and 5 different hi-hat sounds, with an ACTUAL hi-hat stand. The drum pads are awesome too, especially the 3-zone tuneable snare pad. The rack is really sturdy, and you can put anything wherever you want, even add pads to it. If you go for Roland, you'll either pay more for something similar or pay the same amount for a toy. This is truely an incredible kit, very easy to use. I use this as my main kit, just get a nice amp for it and you'll be all set.

great investment
I play till my fingers bleed on the Yamaha DTX IV due to the simple convenience of it. Everything about it fits my need of a simple kit to practice on. It's just so nice to live in an apartment with my roommate who's the guitarist of holy hell rod. We can jam at any time of day and not have to worry about disturbing others. Great investment for the serious drummer needing a quiet practice kit. It's also very fun to play with the presets and songs.

Great Set!
Just bought this a couple days ago. Very easy to set up, all cables labeled on both ends. Definatly worth the extra money for the larger snare, and on the fly tuning. Love the hi hat, and extra cymbal. This is the hubby's first electric set, and he has had no problems with it. My kids are even beating the heck out of it, and no problems.. Had to reposition everything as he is a lefty but plays a righty kit.had to accomadate a cymbal stand next to snare. Stand could be bigger to accomadate specialty setup but with some trial and error we got it.. longer cords for snare and hihat would help also, as the brain had to be put above set so kids wouldn't whack it.. but overall we love it! small tweaks needed to set hihat correctly as said in other reviews, but after researching edrums for a month, this set is far superior to the cheaper rolands.. love the option to be able to upgrade toms by y's. aux in for ipod a plus.. plug it in and play your own music, great for practicing sets at night. as a parent if my seven yr. old son can beat on it and it holds up i love it!
