The Yamaha DSR118W Active Subwoofer has a compact design and features an all-new 800W Class-D amplifier with PFC (Power Factor Correction) switching mode power supply. It has a maximum SPL of 132dB (peak) and extensive protection of the transducers, amplifiers, and power supply. The DSR118W has a low-frequency extension that goes down to 40Hz. A premium-grade, custom designed transducer has a long travel, cast frame 18" woofer with high power, low distortion output. Other features include a top panel polemount for satellite configuration, a heavy-duty 16-gauge steel grille, and a locking IEC cable.

I recently updated my sound gear and after listening to most of the name brands GC has to offer... I went with the Yamaha DSR line. COULDN'T be happier! These speakers ROCK. Good clean sound all around. Plenty of head room and they look nice. These subs sound awesome and I'm planning on getting a few more.
I'm a mobile DJ, specializing in School Dances, Bat/Bar Mitzvahs, Sweet 16's, etc. When It came time to upgrade from my older Behringer/Peavey rig, I chose Yamaha DSR series.
I purchased two of the DSR118w Subwoofers, and two DSR115 Top Cabs. I used them in a gym with about 400 screaming-to-music kids, and there was no competition. The sound quality from the speakers is amazing. Crisp highs, thumping lows, etc. I DO recommend picking up a DBX Driverack, to fine-tune the speakers to each venue's acoustics, but out-of-the-box, they are fantastic. To ANYONE thinking about going somewhere else with speakers, don't. Yamaha DSR Line is a favorite for Parrott Productions Entertainment Services.
I sold all of my passive double 18" subs and power amps. Later I bought 2 Mackie SWA1801Z, then 2 QSC HPR181i and sold them due to size and weight. Now,I bought two of DSR118W and two DSR112 from my local Guitar Center in Fountain Valley, CA in June 2011.
The first impression is that two of the DSR118W fitted in the rear seat of my 1998 honda accord sedan unlike the other I have own. I have played live band thru this setup for 300-500 poeple in several restaurants and night clubs. They are sounded good, very punchy at this price range. The two DSR118W provided clean, punchy and fill up the whole room with feeling that make you want to dance. The heatsink feels cool after had been pushing hard all night (6hrs+). I am very proud of Yamaha quality that always work the way is suppose to. The only downsize is that Yamaha should have included or offer the option to put 4 wheels on it. Eighty percents of my band PA equipments are Yamaha products. You have probably never heard of the BIG bass sound comming out from this compact size powered subwoofer before. Go down to your local Guitar Center to see, hear, feel and test them out.
