Yamaha CG171SF Flamenco

I just spent two hours in Guitar Center, playing every classical and flamenco guitar they had. I was about to leave when I saw this one hanging on the wall, and in about 10 minutes I knew this was the guitar. It is unreal how smooth this guitar is. It is quite loud and punchy. I was used to cedar topped classicals, but I may be sold on spruce now. It is such a steal at this price. The overall quality of craftsmanship is beyond that of some of the $800 - $1000 guitars. The saddle looks and sounds plastic, so it will have to be replaced. However, the action is quite low and very comfortable. I gave it 4.5 on features and quality because of the saddle, but overall you would be hard pressed to find a better guitar at any price point. Great job, Yamaha!

I have two

I bought my first one after seeing my instructor perform with the same model with electronic pick-ups installed. I bought the second one because I was worried I wouldn't be able to get another one if something happened to the first. This guitar has the quality to be played by professionals and the easy playability for the greenest of rookies (like me). I love my CG171SF's. This guitar is WAY underpriced for the quality you get. I have picked up $4000 Ramirez that don't feel this good and play this nicely right out of the box. This one is good for everyone. Thanks.

Solid student model

I recently gave a Yamaha CG171SF a thorough test at a Guitar Center. As an experienced guitarist who began learning Flamenco while living in Spain a few yers ago, I can say this instrument is a good value. The construction is clean and solid, the neck width and scale length are comfortable, and it is quite playable -- fingering is easier than on my Amalio Burguet 2F. That said, the tone is somewhat weak -- definitely NOT rich or bright enough to be of concert quality, and is inferior to better, Spanish-made blancas, such as the Burguet line. (However the entry-level Cordoba blancas I have tried have slightly superior tone, but are no more playable and at nearly twice the price don't make sense for a student unless you MUST have a Spanish guitar or are very picky about tone). Overall, for the money it is an excellent value for a Flamenco student.

Nice guitar

After reading many reviews of this guitar I thought I knew what I was buying. Well, its better than that. Its like a new girl friend, can't keep my hands off it. Well made but the body is light and the neck heavy, so its a little unbalanced, that takes about 3 minutes to get used too. Sounds and plays good. Haunting tone. Be sure to get a tight case and humidifier if you buy one of these.

Yamaha CG171SF Flamenco Guitar

The Yamaha CG171SF Flamenco Guitar is a very well made instrument. Typical of most Yamaha instruments the tolerances are very precise. I took a friend who was just learning guitar into purchase his first instrument. I pulled this guitar down thinking it was more expensive then the others. I was surprised to see it was the Yamaha CG171SF. I knew they were not as pricy as the Spanish guitars but they tune and play better. It?s a great little guitar that even I can play and enjoy as a professional. I play instruments that are thousands of dollars but this for the money can?t be beat. The scale length is nice and easy. The sound is clear and clean. It lacks some of the Flamenco authentic sound but at this range that is a minor detail. It?s just good fun to play.
