Comments about Xotic Effects Bass RC Booster Bass Effects Pedal:
This is a great little box, especially for folks with a passive bass - although it works fine with my active basses too. It is totally clean (no buzz, hum or other annoying artifacts) when engaged or in by-pass. While it can provide a pretty significant boost with no coloration if that's all you need, the EQ feature offers nice flexibility for a passive bass early in the signal chain. Despite having only a two band EQ (which as I understand it is a Baxandall circuit design), the tone shaping capability is very musical. No matter how you twist the EQ knobs you can get a useable tone, albeit it may not be the sound you're looking for, but it's not bad. If your goal in buying this is to have something super clean in your signal chain that will allow you to kick in a boost and/or different tone when needed, I think this box will serve your needs well. If you own a passive bass and are looking to "punch up/enhance" your signal a bit without losing the "passive bass sound", this thing does that very well. If you are looking for distortion, overdrive or dramatic tone shaping, I'd look elsewhere. Subtle, but noticeable,is the best way to describe what you'll hear.
