Overview

Craving a quality drum kit but don't think you can afford one? Think again. With XLN's Addictive Drums production toolkit you'll get 3 uber-realistic sounding virtual kits for the price of less than one traditional setup, plus plenty of extras, and not have to worry about floor space or your neighbors. This formidable music software is compatible with all major plug-in formats. Addictive Drums gives you instant and easy access to every parameter, so you can program completely realistic drum tracks in any style or genre.

Addictive Drums is built on three essential components of a world-class drum studio: superior multi-mic samples of a wide variety of premium drums, full production tools to tweak the sonic qualities of the kit (including envelopes, tuning, insert effects, reverbs, overhead, and room mic control), and a full suite of more than 3,000 built-in beats and grooves.

The toolkit's default sounds are extremely realistic, producing true acoustic drums, but you can also manipulate them into machine-like kits or weird rhythmic effects. Addictive Drums is unique in its ability to deliver such a wide array of production styles.

Whether you're an experienced drum programmer or an aspiring experimenter, with Addictive Drums you'll be able to re-create the "James Brown" beat or create your own distinctive sounds quicker than a Travis Barker snare solo.

Bang for the Buck

By Michael Greene

from Oakton, VA

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

Addictive Drums is quite an impressive program. The sounds are all very realistic, with many fills that allow you to add a humaized feature to the sound. The EQ parameters on the drums are astounding, you can get anything from 80's Arena Anthem sounds, to super tight double bass rolls. This program is astounding, and completely customizable. My only "iffies" on the program are the lack of drum sets (there are only five or six I think...), and the fact that writing your own part without a midi interface is a bit of a hassle, at least with M-Powered Pro Tools. Anyways, thats my two cents on this product.

You want real? This is REAL!

By Moose Lewis

from Richmond, VA

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

After years of testing the big kits and samples, looking for real drums for my productions - in the final mix, only one passed the listener tests: Addictive Drums. This is the only one that has consistently produced drum tracks that makes people ask 'Wow - who is your drummer?' - not what drum machine or samples are you using. I've had more than one session drummer ask me how I mike my kit to get those great sounds. La. Between the supplied kits, extras and complete control over mixing/matching, panning, levels, EQ, compression, effects, mic position, room and overhead mics - the possibilities are almost limitless... and the interface is very comprehensive. I keep meaning to read the manual; but I just haven't had to (and I'm usually a nut about that sort of thing when it comes to software). If you've only got one drummer in your studio, this is the one to have (I had to have Retro ADpak to go with it, once I heard the sounds). Just open AD in your favorite midi-friendly DAW and you'll be spending more quality time on your compositions and less on putzin' around with cartoon drums.

Just right

By Jon

from St. Paul

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

I absolutely love this software. It is easy to wrap your head around the overall layout and functions. You can customize the sounds with e.q. mic'ing, effects, etc. Any drum set could become another different set through envelope filtering alone, almost like sound sculpture. What I like best is that you can accomplish this task intuitively. This software is for you if you don't want hundreds of individual sounds. Instead, you want want a few, highly customizable sounds that can fit into any situation. Real drummers only own a couple of sets at most but get their unique tone through mic'ing and e.q. This is where the software really shines. You can sculpt highly individual sounds with little effort. Registering the product was fairly easy. I'm using it in Logic Pro on a MacBook Pro if that helps anyone.

Outstanding and versatile virtual drums

By Russ

from Arlington, VA

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

I was leaning really hard toward Toontrack products like EZDrummer and Superior Drummer but XLN audio had the good sense of actually making a demo of their product available. So I got to try Addictive in my copy of Ableton Live 7, and I really, really liked it. I also tried BFD2's demo and spent hours researching other highly praised alternatives like Steven Slate Drums. I'm someone who wants a realistic sounding acoustic drum system for a solo rock project, and Addictive struck me as the most thoughtfully designed, malleable solution. Most drum solutions out there are good, but when you consider the cost of different packages, what works becomes clear. If you're a producer and just want fast and easy drums that sound like popular bands you've heard before, something like Steven Slate drums is right up your alley. If you like very genre specific sets and have the cash, EZDrummer/Superior and its many addons provide very nice sounding kits. For the price point though, Addictive by far and away gives you the most versatility with the 3 default kits provided, with loads of preset configurations that show you just how wide a range of sounds you can get out of Addictive. If you still aren't satisfied (in which case you should read up, just about ANY type of style of drums is possible with the default kits and some thoughtful settings) you can buy add on packs for vintage/drum machine/funk/jazz brush kits. The interface: Addictive hits a sweet center between the extreme customizability and cluttered UI of BFD and the very simple, straightforward interface of EZDrummer/Superior. There are 4 'pages' in the VST, and real estate is used to create a very attractive and useful layout. Each drum can be configured with just about every relevant effect under the sun and the adjustments are made with very simple and attractive buttons and sliders. My ONLY complaint with Addictive so far is that, at least in Ableton, if you're like me and just arranging midi notes by hand instead of playing through a keyboard or e-drum set, it's a bit of a hassle to make the various drum channels display by name on the midi piano roll. In Ableton you can create a 'drum rack' which allows you to fix this, but setting it up is time consuming and tedious (but thankfully you should only have to do it once!). It would be nice if something like that was provided by XLN for the various popular DAWs out there, but I guess I'd rather they focus on making Addictive even better. One other potential downside is that, at present, Addictive only allows a set number of specific drums. 1 kick drum slot, 1 snare, 4 toms, 4 cymbals, hi-hat, and xtra (think cowbell), and unlike BFD you can't put any drum in any slot (IE two kick drums), but XLN is aware of this desire and it's possible that Addictive could see more slots in the future. (personally I'm fine with the slot count now... but I always welcome extra flexibility). Long story short, Addictive is the smartest, prettiest, and fastest drum VST out there and for someone who wants a product from a team that clearly knows what they're doing, you should definitely give it a shot.

Great Software

By Don

from Hollister, ca

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

I have been locking for a program that sounds real and has already processed studio sounds. i have EZ drummer and RMX. RMX has great drum sounds but the midi files are more for Rap and Techno. EZ drummer has great midi files for rock and more if you buy the add-on's but that will set you back. EZ drummer has great sounding drums (by the way I've been playing drums for 30+ years)but they are not processed. So unless you're a recording engineer, it's difficult to get the studio sound. AD on the other hand has great processed sounds, easily modified, a treasure chest of presets. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because of the minimal midi files that it comes with. You can however, with a little manipulation, use the midi files from EZ drummer.

Identical to the real thing & even faster to set up with E- Drums

By JW

from seattle, WA

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

This Program is more than proficient for recording & performing with your v-drums. I have a TD3 & this baby gets the job done each & every time with minimal CPU usage & (0)- zero latency. When I first heard it. I could not believe my ears & I was actually intrigued because I was initially going to invest in an upgrade for my module like the TD 20 but I compared the sounds to addictive drums & AD blew The TD20 out of the water as well as BFD. I highly recommend this program if you are a drummer with an electronic set in an apartment as opposed to real heavy drums & a time consuming set-up with mics. "Digital vst's & DAWS are taking over for sure. "Superb Program by far"

Highly Recomend

By Keith

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

I love this program and I use it on just about everything I do. My favorite part is the the direct output function used with Pro Tools. I recommend this especially if your trying to do drum replacement or you don't have a drummer or drums to mic up and sample your self.
