Overview

With scorching riffs and remarkable stage presence, Zakk Wylde has earned his reputation as heavy metal's premier lead guitarist. It's perhaps no surprise that he's now going from making great music to making great guitars at the head of his own company. The Wylde Audio Odin electric guitar is part of the first wave of models to come from this new company.

With nordic spirit this single cutaway is ready to seize the stage. The Odin offers the player one of Zakk's most elegant designs featuring a solid mahogany body with a set 3-piece maple neck. The ebony fretboard has a 24.6 in. scale and 14 in. radius with 22 jumbo frets, just the way Zakk likes it.

From Ozzy Osbourne, Pride and Glory, and now Black Label Society, Zakk has always used EMG active pickups and you'll find a pair onboard in the time-tested combination of EMG 85/81 that has helped define Zakk's sound. Black satin hardware includes Grover tuners and locking tune-o-matic bridge. Case sold separately.

Details about the EMGs onboard
Although the EMG-85 pickup has more measurable output than the 81, its frequency response and string interface are different. The 85 uses two Alnico magnet-loaded coils with a wide aperture to maintain a beefy low end and a fatter top end. Because of a more natural tone, it works great as a rhythm and blues pickup because it has loads of output but isn't muddy. It's a perfect choice as a rhythm pickup in combination with an 81 in the bridge.

The midrange has great definition and doesn't get foggy or muddy in the rhythm position. The EMG-85 works best if you like the natural distortion that comes from overdriving the front end of your amp. Under any condition, the humbucker responds accurately to your technique.

The EMG-81 pickup is a high-output pickup designed especially for the lead guitarist. The 81 is at its best for high volume overdrive and amps with a master volume. Whether you're playing power rock 'n' roll, or overdriving your amp, there's a razor sharp attack, and incredible sustain for brilliant soloing. If you're looking for exceptional qualities in a rock pickup, the EMG-81 is the one.

Distortion during lead passages is consistent, sustain is long and the breakup fades smoothly. The ceramic magnet in combination with wide aperture steel poles lend a quick attack but the tone stays nice and fat at the same time. Perfect if you're the only guitarist in the band, and need to switch from rhythm to lead and still keep the band moving. Another great thing about the EMG-81 humbucker is it's quiet. If you're playing at really high gain the last thing you need is noise.

Comments about Wylde Audio Odin Electric Guitar:

Punchy low end and crystal clear highs. The pickups compliment each other real well, delivering the right balance between bright clean tones and heavy in your face distortion. The neck is a different shape from anything I have ever played but in a good way. It feels more natural in my hand then a Les Paul or any of low profile necks I have played in the past. If I have any feedback to Zakk Wylde it would be to move the rear strap button as that peak gets in the way of attaching any of the straps I tried(strap locks will allow for the clearance to overcome this). Also the volume knob could have a tighter sweep to allow for more specific tone options. Overall I am thrilled! Money well spent.

Comments about Wylde Audio Odin Electric Guitar:

So, the good...it is a nicely balanced guitar...good tone and nice action straight from the box.

The bad...these graphics (stickers) are horrible...and comparable to similar makes and models, the price is about $100-$200 high.

My recommendation is to buy the molasses over the bullseye if you consider buying one.

Comments about Wylde Audio Odin Electric Guitar:

the Wylde Audio Odin is a fantastic guitar. It's one of those guitars that will stay in my arsenal for as long as I live. I've been a big Zakk Wylde fan since his first album with Ozzy: No Rest For The Wicked. Some may say I'm biased; I say just play one, they are excellent. I've run it through four 4 hour shows with no technical issues and excellent intonation. Guitar center staff were easy to work with and very friendly.

Comments about Wylde Audio Odin Electric Guitar:

I played and bought the Blackout Odin as soon as it was available at my closest Guitar Center. The complaint that I hear most is the fact the the neck is "fat". It is a fat neck, but I love it! In my opinion, the thick neck with smooth, shaved back, and jumbo frets make it a breeze to play....very comfortable. I play primarily in a southern rock/country/classic rock band. This guitar can cover all genres, if you know how to use it. It provides bright, clean cleans and a very punchy chunk in an overdriven amp. The sustain is as good or better than any guitar that I've ever played. Before I got this guitar, my main gigging guitars were my Epiphone Les Paul or Korina V, paired with my Telecaster. (I use the Tele mostly for the chicken' pickin', twangy stuff.) I have primarily played the Odin at every show since I've bought it. I've had no issues with. Also, the paint job is killer. The graphics aren't stickers. The paint job is a combination of gloss and flat black paint. I was skeptical when seeing the pics of it, but they do no justice. The guitar looks amazing in person.
I would have to suggest that you play one before purchasing. Also, because of the viking horn cut out and beveled butt of the guitar, it does not fit in all standard Les Paul or rectangle cases. But, that's not a complaint or problem for me.
Great job Zakk and Wylde Audio! I think that you've made a killer axe!

Comments about Wylde Audio Odin Electric Guitar:

I went to Guitar Center in Crestwood, Mo to buy a Schecter Hellraiser they had in stock. After I played it, I just wasn't satisfied with the sound and feel. It was just about closing time and I saw the Odin Blackout Bullseye they had on a stand. So I gave it a try. At first I wasn't sure if I liked the feel of the neck, but the more I played it, the more I liked.it. I went ahead and bought the guitar, went home and played it for 5 hours straight. I love how the guitar sounds with the EMG 81 and EMG 85 pickups. I thoroughly love playing this guitar.

Comments about Wylde Audio Odin Electric Guitar:

I just sold my Gibson Custom Zakk Wylde Les Paul Bullseye and have been missing it big-time. I decided to just take a look at the Oden at a local Guitar store, and I was not expecting much, being an import, but I wanted to feel the neck. I picked it up and played for well over an hour with no interest in any other guitar while doing so. The neck feels perfect for me. Ebony is a must for my taste and this fretboard feels even better than my Gibson did. The guitar screams! The lows have a great, deep yet powerful tone. Pinch harmonics are incredibly easy to hit and this guitar makes them sound down right wicked. The looks are awesome with the red quilt under the black bullseye. No scratchy pots and I'm happy to see the volume knob out of the way like Les Pauls. I was blown away and came home with it. This guitar looks, feels and plays as good or better than anything I can compare it to. I own them all. I am very picky. The only thing that I would love to see is the rear strap knob moved or the rear extension removed. It is hard to get my strap on the back. This is only my second import guitar I have and It's a keeper. Hats off to Zakk. Thanks man! Now make another album!

When I picked it up I was taken back by the thickness of the neck. My first thought was I love it but I bet many people won't because of the chunky heaft of the neck. I was wrong. This thing is selling rather well and it should. I never really heard active pickups that I though sounded good but Zakk found the recipe: mahogany body, maple cap (nothing shocking here) maple neck (huh?) ebony fretboard! Wow. These EMG's sound huge fat thick and juicy. The maple and the ebony really give the pickups that snap and bite I've been missing in my active pickups. I'm telling you guys and gals that thick maple neck makes a huge difference. And the big fat neck joint that requires some extra practice time to get used to is absolutely worth it. This is a great axe. The sounds is epic. This thing screams and punishes in a very very good way.

Comments about Wylde Audio Odin Electric Guitar:

This guitar is exactly what the market needs: quality and affordability. Even if you pay list price, it's still a great deal. From headstock to tail, it's a beauty. I've owned many guitars over the years, and the Odin is the best. The fat neck is very comfortable. The ebony fretboard is high grade with a very tight grain. Extra- jumbo frets are smooth, profiled, and set perfectly. The mother of pearl big block inlays look and feel great. Tons of sustain, crisp chunk, and tight cleans from the EMGs offer a lot of tonal variety. The curly maple Redrum top looks great and gives the mahogany body a crispness. Also, a beveled body, Tone pros bridge/tailpiece, Grover high ratio tuners, mother of pearl inlays on the headstock, and a cleanly bound neck make this guitar a beast. I play a variety of styles, and the Odin sounds great for all of them. I've heard others compare this guitar to another well- known single- cutaway guitar. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Odin is simply a better designed and manufactured instrument. It begs to be played. It's a serious instrument. Thanks Zakk!

This guitar looks great, sounds great, and has an amazing neck feel. That being said, I can not stand up whilst playing this guitar. Normal straps fall off due to the point at the bottom of the guitar. It also caused locking straps to not fit. Dunlop straplocks dont work, planet waves locking straps dont fit etc. This guitar is the best one I own, but Wylde audio sorely needs to release a strap with it

I can't describe how amazing this guitar is to me. If you are fortunate enough to have a GC near you, head on down and try this guitar. Some will love it some will hate it. I find that this guitar delivers on sound, solid EMG pickups, holds some amazing sustain and is great for playing metal tunes. Don't get me wrong this guitar is fantastic for all genres, but the Wylde Audio line of guitars scream metal. I find myself playing for hours without thinking about it cause it is so fun! I got the Redrum model, which is a GC exclusive. It is a gorgeous guitar!

After playing low end guitars for 2 years this guitar made me see why people invest more money to buy a quality item. The difference is night and day. It made my playing skill sound even better than the other guitars I own. If your a Zakk Wylde fan as I am you'll enjoy owning/playing this beautiful crafted peice of art work that the legend himself plays and endorses. Thanks father Zakk for the affordable enjoyment I get from this guitar.
