After taking a 20 year hiatus from playing piano, I decided to take it back up at 35 years old. I didn't want to spend a fortune on a more reputable name brand like Yamaha, but after doing some extensive due diligence, I decided on the Overture 2 from Williams. Despite the slightly higher-than-average occurrence of negative reviews, I decided it was a nice mid-range digital piano, so I purchased it.

First and foremost, be sure you have someone to assist you with the assembly. This is a very heavy piano, and although I was able to finally get it together by myself, it would've been much easier if I had someone to assist me. Other than that, the assembly is relatively straightforward, though the directions are not great, and the parts come all together in one bag. I shouldn't have to sit there and figure out the difference between an M4x20 screw and an M6x16 screw (I figured it out, but it was an added hassle that could've been avoided with clearer instructions and better packaging).

The holes drilled in the modesty panel were too big, and the screws wouldn't hold it in place. Plus, the washers that the provided were too big for the screws, so they didn't help keep the screw secured. Ultimately, I had to use large binder clips on the bottom to hold it in place... a rather ghetto option for something that costs several hundred dollars.

As for the piano's performance, it's... meh. The sound is realistic enough, but the action on the keys is TERRIBLE. I know I've been away from the piano for two decades, but I remember enough that I know you shouldn't have to literally SLAM down on the key to get louder action. The pedals seem to work fine and as expected. But the poor action on the keys themselves are a major disappointment.

The bottom line: if you're JUST starting out with piano, it'll suffice. But once you get into actually playing regular songs, you're probably going to want to invest in a better model. Hope this helps.

Comments about Williams Overture 2 88-Key Console Digital Piano:

DISCLAIMER: I actually do not own this piano. Nonetheless, I have played it for an extended period of time at my local Guitar Center. I also have no interest in the other sounds that it makes. With that being said, I cannot recommend this instrument to someone who wishes to learn to play or already has a good feel for playing the piano. For someone who just wants a piece of furniture or just plays every now and then for kicks, this is the thing for you. However, if you intend on actually playing with any regularity, whether student or even modestly accomplished, DO NOT BUY THIS!!!! The glaringly bad part of this instrument is that it does not sound anything like a piano. It is very hollow and muffled, like it's sitting in the bottom of a well. Given that every other comparable product on the floor sounds fine, this is a problem for me. It really does sound like on old electric keyboard. As far as touch goes, you have to bear down hard on the keys with very little return. There is little if any hope of playing at anything but mezzo-forte. It absolutely does not act like any acoustic piano. The final issue I had with this product is the una corda (soft) pedal does absolutely nothing. It is mere decoration.

In the end, I would love to recommend this piano to you. It has a great price, but that price is so low for a reason. If this is all you can afford, then something is better than nothing. If you or your child is hoping to learn to play the piano or you are looking for an upgrade from a keyboard, do yourself a favor and go with practically any other instrument. You will not learn to feel, hear, or play correctly nor will you enjoy playing with this glorified piece of furniture.

Haven't played the piano in years. This really fit the bill. We live in a townhome and wanted it on the second floor. It is very heavy but talked the UPS man help us to get it upstairs. Wish we had found this sooner so that I could have been playing all along.

Comments about Williams Overture 2 88-Key Console Digital Piano:

We have musical children, one is a special needs child who loves music. Being this piano was on sale we bought it. In less than a year my younger son began saying certain keys were doing funny things like playing two notes. It wasn't long before keys stopped working. Before calling for service we had 8 keys not working. I had to ship it off which was a hassle due to the weight. Was then told it could not be fixed. We were reimbursed for the piano. I reluctantly will buy another one, but will definitely purchase the protection and keep the box because I see this happening again.

This instrument replaced a Wurlitzer console spinet piano, which I loved. This piano better fits the space I now have and is "considerably" easier to move. Wish it had come in more finish choices than the shiny ebony, but that certainly doesn't take away from the overall quality of the product.

Comments about Williams Overture 2 88-Key Console Digital Piano:

I am an adult beginner. This product is excellent for my current use. Considering the price and overall quality, it is a great value. While playing, I can hear an "airy" tone. As a beginner, it does not bother me. If my playing skills were well developed, I can see that "airy" tone being an issue. If you are a talented musician who insists on perfection, I suggest considering other models. If you are in learning mode or not sure if you will stick with the piano, this is a great purchase. Again, for me being a beginner, this was a great purchase, and I would definitely do it again. I will consider upgrading in a couple years.

I like the sound, very realistic.
I really like the feel of the hammer action keys, very close to that of an acoustic piano.
I can go from playing the Overture 2 to an acoustic piano and not feel the difference in the playing of the keys.

My 12 year old have been getting lesson for 6 years and practices on a keyboard. He love the feel of this piano. States that it feels just like the real piano that his instructor uses. The keyboard was in the game room, but this looks nice enough to place in the den. He practices more now.

This is an easy priced piano with a $3000 look. The sound that comes out of thus piece is amazing !! The added feature to me is the volume control. The choices of sounds and combinations are the best. I have NO cons to say on my new piano. It is a beautiful addition to my almost formal living room.
Couldn't have done better on choice.

Looks great. I do not like the way it plays. Had it set up for about 5 days and will probably sell it. I should have went with the Korg SV-1 88. I bought it for studio use unseen based on reviews. I find the action almost delayed and totally unrealistic. The piano sounds remind me of an old Casio from the 1980's. You get what you pay for. They must have paid people in the videos well to endorse this thing.

The action of the keys is the best available to prepare or practice for grand piano performace. The Yamaha pianos have a very fake feel compared to this, and playing Chopin sonatas on the Yamaha is a chore. I don't understand how people complain about this having a fake touch, but I can only assume they are not concert pianists. This is the piano to get, or the Allegro II if you want a honest, authentic keyboard touch. Nothing is as good as a real grand piano, but this is a good cost effective option.

The piano arrived promptly and was easy to assemble. It has the look and feel of an acoustic piano, and the bonus of online software to go along with it. I've only had it a few days, but the great price, feel, and look of the overture so far has not disappointed.
