As reviewed by cinthya Fuentes on 12/13/2011

I have a piano studio at home and three of my students could not got an accoustic piano because of the price and lack of room at home. So the three of them got one of this william overture digital piano. They have been really happy ever since, they love their digital pianos sound.

  • Better than expected

As reviewed by Herb Lucki on 9/26/2011

I'm retired, and I used to play piano. Since retiring I've had the urge to play piano again, but don;t have the room for an acoustic piano, nor did I want to have to bother with tuning it and all that. I just wanted something I cold tinker around with at home for my own pleasure. I shoped around, and went to the guiater center and checked this one out. I was very surprised, nice touch, nice, cabinet is OK (the back is a bit flimsy). There was Yahmaha next to this one, and I played it. Of course the Yahmaha had alotof bells and whistles, wchi I was not intereste din, and was a few hundred dollars more than this one. Cbabinet was about the same. I went with this one. It has what I want, and probably more than I want. The keys are good, nice touch very close to an acoustic. It isn't that loud, but I'm not playing in a concert hall, I'm playing in my sitting room. The pedals work fine, no buzzing in the speakers. It blends in nice with my furniture. Al in all, a good investment for what I want to do. I download the assembly instructions, and put it together in about an hour, by myself. Pretty easy..and it comes with a screwdriver! I'd recommend this piano to ayone looking to have a decent sounding piano, and not break the bank. I'm happy with it, and I am sure you will be to.

  • Great piano when used with Macbook Pro

As reviewed by Kristy on 8/24/2011

I played piano as a child and through entering college, so over 10 years, quite seriously. Life took me away from music for awhile so after many years of not having a piano of my own (I have a Chickering baby grand at my parents, but it won't fit in my NYC apartment!) I recently decided I wanted to start playing again. I was really impressed with this piano in the store because of the way it felt (has 4 options for touch sensitivity and is decently weighted) and it looked like a nice piece of furniture as well. It was also really on sale at the time, holiday special. I played all of the pianos at the store, and while the Yamaha's were clearly better in touch, sound, features, they were so much more expensive. So for someone like me, just getting back into it, the Overture was the best option. Assembly The keyboard is very heavy, so you will need more than one person to assemble it. The frame it sits on is not of the greatest quality and we were initially concerned about it holding the weight of the keyboard, but it did. (Just not looking forward to taking it apart or moving it!) Sound Once at home in a quiet room, the sound was not as good as I had expected. (In the store it was rather noisy, I'd suggest bringing your own high quality headphones to test out pianos.) There is a noticeable hum when the unit is turned on and the speakers are just not adequate. It sounds like the majority of the sound is coming from below, doesn't surround you like a real acoustic. So I plugged in headphones and it was worse! I don't recommend using their headphone jacks, they only amply the hum. Luckily, the Overture comes with lots of other in and out plugs, including MIDI, USB, line in and out. I plugged a USB cable into my Macbook Pro and launched Garage Band. (comes free with Macs) I created a song file and started playing with their grand piano sounds and adjustments. Eventually, I plugged my headphones into the computer and it sounded AMAZING! It sounds like a different piano, I'd bet coming close to the expensive ones I tried. Clearly the built-in speakers, headphone jacks and sound processor are not of the best quality. Now when I play, the notes are rendered in a so much better way and I can tweak the sound in Garage Band as I like. While I am mostly using it for practicing, I'd like to get some external speakers to connect to it (through the laptop) as well. I am very happy with my purchase. However, if you don't have a laptop computer you can use with it and sound quality is important to you, I'd really suggest looking for a digital piano that has higher quality speakers and a processor built it. If you are just starting out with piano, the Overture would not be a bad choice and the price is great, however your ability to play in a nuanced way is more difficult than a real piano. You'd definitely want to move-up to a good acoustic within a few years or sooner if you are a serious player.
