The Tony Maserati Artist Signature Collection includes the Maserati GTi Guitar Toner, Maserati VX1 Vocal Enhancer, Maserati DRM Drum Slammer, Maserati HMX Harmonics Generator, Maserati B72 Bass Phattener, and the Maserati ACG Acoustic Guitar Designer. Below is his take on each of the different processing chains and their benefits to you as well as breakdown of the controls that each one has.
Maserati ACG Acoustic Guitar Designer
Tony Maserati on the ACG Acoustic Guitar Designer: âThe ACG is a comprehensive tool to help gain ultimate control and energy boost from a variety of acoustic guitar types. The âACG 1â setting allows you to maximize level and sculpt your top and bottom. âACG 2â setting has more built-in compression for bringing out the subtleties in a live performance. Both have appropriate room settings available to be dialed in at varying levels.â
Maserati B72 Bass Phattener
Tony Maserati on the B72 Bass Phattener: âThe B72 actually has two distinct starting places. Iâve worked on a large variety of music for my artists, and thereâs never just one sound or one preset. Try the âDIâ setting on your electric or acoustic bass and youâll see how you can enhance the roundness, while keeping it lively throughout the song. The âSynthâ setting opens up a different door, with thickness, stereo spread, and harmonic flavor. Itâll fill the speakers like an old Prophet.â
Maserati DRM Drum Slammer
Tony Maserati on the DRM Drum Slammer: âThe DRM was designed to help the excitement of percussive transients get heard through mixes which are thick with instrumentation and vocals. Whether on programmed or live drums, DRM is a great starting point for your mix.â
Maserati GRP Group Processor
Tony Maserati on the GRP Group Processor: âThe Maserati GRP plugin is meant to help that final blend jump out a bit. Itâs got a nice bit of equalization involved but no effects, no shredders, none of that kind of thing. In fact, the compression that Iâm using in the network there is very, very subtle, because generally I donât do major compression over my groups. Itâs meant to add a nice sheen on a great blend of background vocals or compress a drum kit together, make it really feel like itâs got some nice air to it.â
Maserati GTi Guitar Toner
Tony Maserati on the GTi Guitar Toner: âThe GTi was created with all the different guitar players Iâve admired in mind. I tried to find settings that would be a starting place for getting their sound, from the âCleanâ in-your-face sound of, say, Elliott Smith to the wide chorus-y spread of The Policeâs Andy Summers using the âClean Chorusâ setting. On the âHeavyâ setting, a bit of level and EQ help your already crunched guitar sound scream through any thick instrumentation youâve got. âThick Rhythmâ lets you to subtly or substantially make your rhythm guitar sound livelier; it also works great on Wurlis and Horns. The âSoft Flangeâ setting is just that; it adds interesting and subtly audible filtering to legato notes or sustained electric guitars. My intention was to make these effects usable in a wide variety of applications. The wild and crazy FX are out there; you already got âem if you need âem!â
Maserati HMX Harmonics Generator
Tony Maserati on the HMX Harmonics Generator: âIn âModalâ mode, the HMX will make your piano wide, with just the right amount of chorus effect, to give it life on a vocal demo, or raise your Wurlitzerâs presence, for some ethereal magic. âBounceâ mode will add a bit of reverb and delay, to create energy and movement for a sensitive ballad or live-ness to a funky full-band setting.â
Maserati VX1 Vocal Enhancer
Tony Maserati on the VX1 Vocal Enhancer: âThe VX1 is a compact package for full vocal control, whether you need to squeeze the most emotion out subtle performance or engulf it in a room with a full band production. This plugin has all the processing you need for Vocals.
Contour 1 will give you a studio or small venue room; Contour 2 is a larger chamber with reflective pre-delays, most suited for slow ballads; and Contour 3 is set up for quicker tempo songs with a very small room and matching pre-delay.â

I'm a long time Waves user and recently upgraded my Waves Gold to V9. I saw a video about the Maserati Signature Series and downloaded the Demo. I applied tony's VX1 vocal enhancer to one of my vocal tracks and was stunned. The vocal just magically jumped out front and center. The presets are incredible and can be tweaked to taste. Why spend hours trying to find the perfect vocal when it's right there in a top quality plugin. I'm not too proud to use something that makes my recordings sound better. GC had an incredible sale and I jumped on the Maserati series.I encourage you to try the Demo, you'll be amazed. People who understand recording are saying the same things in their reviews about this series. I would have loved to apprentice under Tony Maserati. But since I can't be with him in person, I have the next best thing; he's in my plugin library. Thanks, Tony.
These plugins are not for folks who think they are the be-all end-all of music production. They will just be frustrated by the relative restrictions on tweakability of these plugins. Rather, these plugins are for those who can admit, silently or otherwise, that they don't have as much knowledge and skill as Tony Maserati. They are for folks that realize how great it would be for a talent like Tony to give you a set of plugins tailored to his specifications and say "here you go, try this. It will work." For those folks, these plugs are magic. They still have plenty of tweakability, but always within the tasteful constraints of Maserati's view of what works and what doesn't. If you wish you had a Master of Mastering at your side, you'll want these plugins. If you think you are the Master of Mastering, keep moving, there's nothing to see here. Thanks Tony. Thanks Waves.
I've used waves in the past and yes their plugins are great, but usually it takes a little tweaking to get the sound you want. But with this collection it's so easy to get a great sound with out a lot of tweaking. If you do Hip Hop/Rap or RnB or even Gospel the VX1 (gives you great sounding vocals with ease) alone is worth the price. But when you throw in the DRM and B72 thats when the fun starts. The DRM will give you that thump on your kick you need and the B72 takes care of that bass tone you are looking for. Waves out did themselves this time, they took a great sounding plugin and made it so easy to use it's just plain ridiculous. If don't buy any other waves plugin this is the one you should grab very worth the price.
