Overview

The Washburn WD100DL is a steel string acoustic guitar that features a mahogany top and dreadnought size, making it ideal for both practice and performance.

Mahogany is dark-colored wood that, when used as a guitar soundboard, creates a warm, full tone with a character all its own. The WD100DL also features mahogany back and sides that further help to balance out the powerful low- and high-end inherent to the dreadnought body shape. The result is a sound that's both pleasing and loud enough to be heard in small venue without amplification.

The Washburn WD100DL has a full-length 25-1/2" mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard. Other appointments include a rosewood bridge, vintage style headstock, die-cast tuners, and a gig bag.

*Note: Restock version does not have Washburn flower logo on headstock.

Overall, this is a nice guitar. It will need setup upon arrival; if you are a beginner player or not experienced enough, PLEASE take this to a local guitar shop to get set up. The neck on mine had WAY too much tension, so I loosened it up. The guitar also arrived slightly over-humidified, but that's better than it being overly dry and cracked.

Besides the required work needed to be done on it, I also did some optional work; just my personal preferences. I personally think this guitar looks great, but the gloss finish ruins everything. So I bought a can of Rustoleum Clear Matte Finish spray paint, removed the strings, pickguard (the pickguard was also misplaced on the guitar compared to the preview picture on the website), and hardware, and sprayed away...now it looks amazing! (In this review are the before and after pics - before pic is straight out of the box.) I also installed a strap button and restrung it with Martin medium-weight Phosphor Bronze strings; two more things beginners should take to a guitar shop to get done if they wish to do so.

Comparing this guitar to my old Yamaha F325, my only complaint is that playing/shifting positions is not as smooth; especially with the gloss finish. Then again, however, I've had my Yamaha for about 4 years, and my Washburn for a few days now. I look forward to seeing how my relationship with my Washburn guitar evolves!

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is one of the best bargains I've seen in a long time. It has a sweet rich sound that is way past it's bargain price. The mahogany really gives that rich, loud music. I have a number of acoustic guitars and this one is one of the best I've bought. I have heard a lot of complaints about the machine heads, and believe me they aren't that bad. I've had worse. I beat a guitar when I play and this one has held its tune for the last 24 hours with me playing it after the strings took a set. This guitar is definitely a hidden gem! If you have a limited budget, and want a nice acoustic, this one won't treat you wrong.

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this for my husband to replace another one he no longer has. His eyes marveled at the rich deep color, and saying how beautiful it is. He loves the sound of it and the quality. He is getting use to the skinny neck which makes the strings closer together than his wide neck did. He believes when this becomes natural to him that he will like the skinny neck better because it is easier to reach chords. He found a free app for his phone that tells you when you have each string in tune. Took less than 5 minutes to tune.

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I've played washburns in the past but moved on to Martins. This guitar sounds like a $400 guitar. It looks great. I'm not totally convinced it's solid mahogany but it's still great either way for the price. I sanded down the neck (just to take a bit of lacquer off to keep my hands from sticking) tightened the truss rod and sanded down the saddle a bit since it comes with pretty high action which makes it a little tougher to play. After this; she played like a beauty. The medium strings are great for this guitar. It helps add to the great tone.

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar was in turn right out of the box. The bass response and tone balance is better than similar models because of the mahogany. Resonates and sustains. We give guitars like this to disabled veterans and the quality is perfection.

The Healing Box Project gifts these to veterans and teaches our heroes to play. The sound and ease of fingering is good right out of the box. A slight truss rod adjust on 1 of 5 .

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

Ok I've been a musician for the past seven years. I played trumpet, some percusian, and various other wind instruments. This was my first guitar. I ordered it in mid May and as soon as I ordered it, the guitar went on back order till the 25th of May. No biggy right? Then the back order date kept being pushed back all the way till June 10th. Still no big deal to me. I have nothing but time and a whole lot of patience. So being excited I called them on the 9th to make sure it was going to ship the next day. The sales rep on the other end confirmed with me it would. The 10th comes and no shipping order arrives in my inbox. Odd, I decide to call them up and ask, "is my guitar going to ship soon?" Which all started the slew of calling day in and out asking the same question and receiving the same answer "it'll ship today if not tomorrow" for a week till I had to cancel my order and just reorder the thing at a higher price. My order was "allocated" for a week and no one shipped it.

However, when I finally got to play my first guitar it was definitely worth the wait. Don't try to order a back ordered item.

Just started a new job 3100 miles from home and wanted something to practice with until I move my nicer guitars out here. I bought an open-box one for 33% off the sale price, listing said "blemished" but it arrived in perfect shape, still has the plastic on the pick guard and not a single scratch I can find. The black color is beautiful, love the white trim as well. I highly recommend as an inexpensive guitar, and would purchase again!

The guitar feels and sounds great right out of the box. I already had a case for it so I'm good to go. The only thing is, I ordered one color and got another. I think I might just keep it, cause I'm impressed with the projection of sound that comes out of that guitar and the action is very comfortable right out of the box, the action was low and I like it low, that's my story and I'm stick'n wit it!

Really good guitar, easy to tune (and barely gets out of tune), nice color (i got the red version).. It sound really good for a one fifty guitar. I could not put it down. I chose this over epiphone because they don't stay in tune and the truss rod usually needs adjusting (according to my friend,)
