Just started and am teaching self to play. This banjo with resonator gets plenty of volume. I am very happy with this purchase. Cannot believe this is a beginner banjo. Definetley get what you pay for and then some. Would recommend this banjo to all. Came assembled other than the bridge which my local Guitar center was more than happy to help place it for me. Very friendly buisness overall. Thanks!

Overall I am happy with the purchase. I am a professional musician who likes to learn various instruments and the banjo was next on my list. For a beginner/learner it is great. Be advised though, I highly recommend you take it to a shop to have it set up, unless you have experience with instrument setup. Out of the box, the bridge is not set (so as the head isn't damaged in shipping I'm sure), the action is high and both the saddle and nut(s) needed adjusting to get rid of fret buzz and make it more playable.

If you are a beginner, you can't go wrong for the price. I imagine I will eventually want one of higher quality, but it suits my needs for learning nicely at this time.

    Comments about Washburn B9 Banjo:

I really like this banjo. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that it has an aluminum rim, not wood; this does create a slightly brighter tone, which I happen to like. I enjoy playing it in the clawhammer style, and the resonator helps cut through other instruments well.

    Comments about Washburn B9 Banjo:

Bought a couple to use for lessons. We received one in good order. Second had to be returned due to damage. When we returned it and got next one its was worse than first. Been an uphill battle. Hoping fourth time is a charm! Fellas at store have been great to deal with. Not the GC staffs fault.

Good starter banjo. The tool that is used to adjust the brackets didn't fit the brackets, so it is relatively useless.

          Comments about Washburn B9 Banjo:

i was looking for a banjo to learn on and that is what i received. decent tone, and plays well. no major blemishes. a bit of fret buzz that was corrected with a little extra attention upon set up, which was not too difficult. new strings also helped with a bit more volume during play. i doubt a pro would want to play it on stage but definitely sufficient for jamming with friends.

Ordered this for Christmas for my son. First one came broken, second one seems great. He says it's awesome ! For the price, it seems to do the trick. Really nice color also.

Banjo plays well after initial adjustments. Sound is good. Neck is fretted properly and notes are true when bridge is set correctly.

                Comments about Washburn B9 Banjo:

Great fast neck. Only needed to raise neck 1/8 inch where it joins rim for lower action, tighten head and switch to a No Knot tail piece for a good mellower tone and playability. Mine came with a Reversed Remo coated head with the smooth side up which is good for practicing without worries about rubbing the coating off. I like it more than some that I've spent hundreds more on! The Washburn case they sell for the B-9 is a deluxe archtop version with five latches. Not as loud and cutting as other premium bluegrass banjos, but that works fine for practice at home. I'll be keeping this one. Guitar tuners hold tune well and are easier to fine adjust than planetary type.
