I was looking for a versatile A/E six string in an auditorium size (tired of the dreadnaught box) that played well out of the box and sounded and looked as good as the high priced brands (you know who I'm talking about). A tall order right?
Well, if you like the shimmery mahogany sound with the open, airy, clean, brilliant sound of a cedar top, along with Fishman electronics (an Isys plus system included for how much??? Wow!!), in a comfortable auditorium size, this is a truly incredible guitar.
Out of the box I could tell immedialty that the action was set just right; low but no fret buzz at all. The neck is comfortable, a bit round, not a v neck, but comfortable. It comes with phosphor bronze strings which makes for a very bright sound. (I may try a set of 80/20 bronze, but I'm really liking the phosphor bronze for now). The electronics are top notch. The tuner is incredibly handy and actually tells you the note, unlike some of the cheaper tuners I have seen on others which give the string number?!?! Having both bass and treble knobs for adjustment makes for a very versatile sound palette. My only problem is the knobs are quite small so they are not easy to handle, and the mid click is hard to find. The Fishman Isys plus on a guitar for this price is more than you could ask for.....
The Washburn WG16SCE has a gloss finish, abalone purfling with a nice light wood binding that makes it look like a $3,000 high end brand guitar!! What a beautiful look and feel!! when I saw it I thought it couldn't possibly be priced this low!!
What a sweet instrument for a great deal! Washburn seems fairly consistent with their products so I think you will be able to find one as nice as mine. If you do, I highly recommend owning one!
I will fully admit that I'm a beginner and just started learning guitar not to long ago. My practice was going along good and my employer offered an empty office for the guys to jam out on lunch. So, instead of lugging my guitar back and forth to work, I picked this Guitar up recently as a back up to my other entry level guitar (Yamaha FG-730S). I planned to leave this Washburn at work as my "#2" and keep the Yamaha as my #1 guitar. Well, long story short, I find this guitar to be superior in sound and comfort and is now my "#1" guitar. The Cedar top gives this guitar a nice warm sound and more balance across the lows/mids/highs compared to the FG-730S, not to mention the Grand Auditorium size is much more comfortable. This guitar absolutely does NOT need to be plugged in to get great sound, in fact, 99% of the time it is never plugged in. Plugged in, though, it sound fantastic. The neck and action is very nice and I find my chord changes are much cleaner/faster then I have on my other guitar (both professionally set-up, I might add).
Over all, I would highly recommend this guitar for someone looking for a guitar in this price range. Add it to your list for possible contenders and I think you may be pleasantly surprised... just like I was, and still am.
