First of all, my guitar is a WD23SCE. It's a cedar top that the people at Washburn tell me is a GC exclusive but almost identical to the WD20.
I spent almost a month every weekend at GC trying out guitars from Taylor to Yamaha and beyond. I wanted to find a guitar that would stay with me for years as I resist the temptation of becoming a gear junkie just like every other guitar player out there.
The last time I went in, I was ready to buy and narrowed my choices down to Ibanez, Yamaha, and Fender. The Washburn caught my eye mainly because of the cedar top and the Washburn logo on the head. It was at least $100 less than the other 3 I had narrowed down to, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to spend a few minutes with it just to see.
Wow - super impressed with the tone and projection of the guitar as well as the quality of construction and the beauty of the details (expecially the cedar top). I put the Washburn down and then played the other 3 again; no contest.
The neck has a smooth flat finish and the balance of the whole guitar is excellent. Now, I'm not a great guitarist and far from an expert, but I know right when I feel it and play it.I think if you give Washburn a try, you'll feel the same way; forget the name and price tag and just play - you'll see what I mean.
