I had a Kentucky A-style acoustic mandolin. When I looked at options to install a pick-up, the cost made me consider acoustic-electric alternatives. I began coveting this Washburn when I first saw it. I wanted the F-style and the value was very attractive. It's a beautiful instrument and the playability is terrific. The resonance both acoustically and electrically is generally very nice. The only complaint I have is that I would have appreciated a little more resonance on the higher notes on the E string. Overall, I strongly recommend this instrument.
This is an amazing instrument. As soon as you pick it up you will feel its sturdiness. As soon as you play it you will hear its beauty. When I went to pick it up at my local Guitar Center the guitar tech went into the back, got the box, and unwrapped it with me. The custom Washburn case was strong and sharp looking with great buckles and a sturdy handle. We opened it up to see that the case is lined with green velvet and well padded. It includes a built in box and a velvet pillow that rests between the well lined case and the mandolin. The guitar tech then picked it up and strummed. It was still in tune (and has stayed in tune for at least a month now). We plugged it in and jammed for a bit. As for first impressions, this Mandolin blew my mind. I have had it for about a month and I cant put it down.
In my opinion it is really hard to find a good electric mandolin, there just seems to be a lack of quality. But this one is great, the tone is amazing no matter what amp you use really. It is far more playable than any mandolin I have played. If your in the market for something like this than buy this one!
