  • I would expect MUCH better coming from Warwick

As reviewed by Mike Campbell on 9/19/2011

I bought two sets of these strings to complement my new Warwick bass. These are stainless steel strings that have a taper wound "B" string. Much to my surprise, these strings lost their brightness extremely fast. This really disappointed me because they sounded so good when I first threw them on, but after a few days they began to sound very dull. The tone that they delivered when fresh was very clear, very articulate, and had a lot of growl. The "B" string, even though taper wound and a .135" gauge, was very muddy and floppy sounding. These strings as a whole responded rather well when played with a pick, and had a lot of bottom end and growl when played with the fingers and just brought out a really great growl that was clear and focused. These strings also responded well when slapped. The "B" string died first, it didn't last very long at all. I choose to play stainless steel strings because they last a lot longer than nickel strings and have in my opinion, much better tone. I am a tone junkie and love the sound of fresh bass strings and therefore change them often. At thirty, forty, and sometimes fifty dollars a set, that gets very expensive. At thirty dollars a set, I feel as if I just threw away sixty dollars. These were great strings for the first two days, but after that they began to sound so dull and lifeless. With the reputation that Warwick carries, I would expect a product that carries their name to be much better in quality and durability. Perhaps I received a set that was a dud from the factory. If I find this to be true after installing my second set I will leave the appropriate feedback. If you are looking for great tone these are great for you with the exception of a very floppy "B" string. If you are looking for a set of strings that has great tone and long life, these strings are not for you and I encourage you to look elsewhere.
