Overview

The Warm Audio WA12 is a mic preamp that not only boosts singals, but also adds a bit of character to your sound. A lot of preamps on the market do a good job of raising the volume of mics and instruments. Unfortunately, many pres are doing only that, raising volume. Many of the "Super clean" designs of today tend to leave the the signal exiting the preamp sounding much the same as it did entering it. That's where the WA12 steps in. If you are looking for a preamp to improve and shape your signal then you will most definitely love the WA12. The WA12 is designed to transform plain instruments and vocals into exciting tone. If your mixes lack depth, struggle to sound alive, or are just missing that professional touch you've always wanted, then give the WA12 a try.

great mid priced mic pre

By KIG

Comments about Warm Audio WA12 Microphone Preamp:

i've been doing home recordings for about 10 years now. i've bought a few different mic pre's throughout that time and i gotta say this is the most expensive one i got, and also the best one. i did an A/B comparison the other day where i plugged my bass into my amp and mic'd it up and then played the same riff, changing mic pre's each time. The WA12 came out on top, but my (discontinued) Groove Tubes Brick was pretty close. The WA12 was actually the most clean and clear. other than the Brick i was testing it against the Golden Age MKII, FMR RNP, Studio Projects VTB-1, and an M-Audio DMP-3. the Golden Age is often compared to this because they are kind of in the same price range, but the Golden Age was a lot darker in my opinion, and the much cheaper Studio Projects mic pre was almost just as good as the Golden Age. i got this mic pre about a year ago and it really has helped with my recordings. when tracking drums i use it on snare, but then after that i use it for bass amps, guitar amps, and vocals and it sounds great. if you have a budget studio and you're considering this pre, go for it, you'll like it

Comments about Warm Audio WA12 Microphone Preamp:

I'm not a review writer, just a home audio enthusiast. I was looking to upgrade to add another preamp and upgrade from my trackmaster pro. I read about the Warm Audo WA12. Liked the reviews, and the price. This unit uses quality parts. Like the name this is a very warm sounding preamp. adds perfect color to my vocals, and guitars. I've used an Avalon preamp that was 3 times the price. I prefer the sound of this preamp. What I like about it is I don't have to do much to the tracks in the DAW. The saying of get it right at the source is helped by using this preamp. 5 stars. you can't go wrong buying this preamp at this price.

Comments about Warm Audio WA12 Microphone Preamp:

Warm tone and it sounds great did lots of reach on apre amp before buying chose this over a summit audio. While its cheaper and has less features the the summit and no tube. It has a great vintage sound and warm presents. I was misinformed by two sales reps here telling me to run the output XLR to XLR to my interface. Which sounded not good because you amplify the signal twice get a 1/4 to 1/4 balenced cable or a XLR to 1/4 to what ever your running into.

A great deal of improvement when running a 1/4 to the interface high pass filter would be nice but overall you get a great sound for what you pay for.

Also the companies owner is awesome very helpful and will get back to you in 10-15 min via e-mail. Bryce Young is the owner and convinced me with his honesty and helpfulness. The customer service he provides to the best i have encountered. The other reason i chose this over a pre like the GAP is Cinemag input and output transformers and that is MADE IN THE USA! Cinemag transformers are used in high-end products like the Presonus ADL-600, A-Designs Pacifica, Universal Audio LA.

Overall i am very happy with this and i think it gives a pre twice as much a run for the money. For the price and sound you get could easy sell at five or six dollers.

I will be buying the new pre coming out in a few weeks from them that has more options. from what i read about it i do belive it might revolutionize the preamp market Warm Audio's pre amps will be a staple and centerpiece for my pro studio.
