These monitors have a great, clean sound. They are not bass heavy, but rather have a nice even response through the mid and high-frequency spectrum.

They also have a very high sensitivity, meaning it doesn't take much voltage to get a comfortable SPL. This also means that if your computer sound card has ANY noise, you are going to be sorry. Fortunately I have a Macbook Pro, and Apple puts some engineering hours on ensuring electrical noise is isolated from the DAC hardware. I haven't investigated much into headphone amps, but you might want to consider one, or an outboard DAC if you have noisy on-board sound hardware.

The other day at church, while setting up before the service, our sound tech asked if I was going to be using the in ear monitors that day -- he couldn't even see I was wearing these. I have the clear ones, and that coupled with the over-ear cord wrap makes them just about invisible to anyone looking directly at you.
The over ear wrap also means you will NEVER worry about them falling out on you, even if you were doing some jogging or such. Also, cord noise is a thing of the past as your outer ear will damp out the vibrations.

Also, they are COMFORTABLE. I ended up using the smallest silicone buds, and I wear them for hours at a time listening to music while working; I never feel fatigue in my ear cartilage.
Isolation is pretty good with the silicones -- I would guess around 12-15dB. But when using the foam inserts, wow is it good. At least 25dB. Not quite solid foam plug 30+ dB, but I would guess using them when flying would be absolute bliss for listening.
I ended up using the silicones for stage use because it is so much faster to pop them in and out, not having to roll them down and fit them in.

Also, I can't forget to mention the fantastic 'monitor vault' they come with. I didn't even know about this before opening the package. It is an extremely sturdy plastic case with a (wee) bit of foam padding inside to store and transport the monitors. There is even a rubber gasket between the top and bottom half hinting to at least a fair amount of water-proof ness. I'm sure the case would float, but would likely leak if it got pulled to the bottom of a lake in your backpack. But why would you bring headphones canoeing anyways? :)
Another plus for the 'vault'? I will never again lose my 1/8 to 1/4 adapter!

I used these for playing live gigs and we use Avioms or the Behringer Powerplay sound systems. I'm guessing I prefer to push the bass and lows too much and it causes them to blow out the driver. This is the second time I'm going to have to send them back to Westone for repair. I don't really feel like I turn them up that loud, but as a drummer I tend to want to hear the bass and kick drum. I'm definitely disappointed. if I had known, I would have spent more money on something better for my use. Westone refuses to refund my money and insist on repair. Not mention, I have to pay to ship them back to Westone. What a waste of time and money.

Comments about WESTONE UM Pro 10 In-Ear Monitors:

    I love using the Westone in live gigs, the sound is clear enough with a punch that I like. Sometimes the bass cracks a bit (but then you have to realy push them to the limits);
The fit is perfect - they stick in my ears as if they were made for me; here the extra soft tips come in handy too.

The design feels a little less durable than sures in hand, however, the overall quality is much better for the price.

Comments about WESTONE UM Pro 10 In-Ear Monitors:

The monitors are comfortable in the ear. Several foam pieces are supplied for correct fit. The monitors appear sturdy and would withstand every day use. The product description is deceiving in saying there is an enhanced bass response. Not true. The lower frequency response is non-existent. The monitors produce good mid to upper frequencies. I would not describe them as flat response monitors, because there is no low frequency monitoring to make mention of. I have tried them with everything from an MP3 player to a mixer in a studio. Poor choice for any. Here lies a problem, though, you have to try them to find this out. Once you use them, according to The return policy, you can't return them. So do more research on this product before you make the purchase. Once you do, they are yours. Now, I am stuck with ear monitors I won't use and I am out the money I paid for them.

Comments about WESTONE UM Pro 10 In-Ear Monitors:

OK, so those here who have commented on these being harsh in the midrange and lacking in bass... well they're absolutely correct. Simply because these have only one armature. I assume a jump up to the UM PRO 20, with two armatures, would be a great step in correcting those deficiencies.

But the fact of the matter is I couldn't afford a pair of the 20s, let alone the 30s, which must be downright amazing considering how happy I am with the basic model. Maybe someday I'll spring for them. In the meantime, these will do just fine considering I'm an extreme metal drummer and mainly want to hear the guitars when performing.

The definition on these puppies is absolutely fantastic. Everything stands out and has great clarity and attack. I'm listening to a clean mix with little to no EQ. I can hear everything. It's a flat mix (again, considering it's one armature handling the entire frequency spectrum).

There is plenty of headroom for volume. I normally use the Vic Firth headphones to practice and I had to turn the level down with these monitors (going through a Presonus HP60 headphone amplifier/splitter). I imagine they are blazing loud if you need them to be. But given the increased clarity and definition that they provide, I was more than happy to have to turn the volume down!

As for comfort and convenience, these (like all IEM I imagine) take a bit of time to get used to putting them on initially. They come with a set of 5 or 6 different sizes and styles of removable ear molds (both mushroom-type and compressible foam versions in each size) and I'm still experimenting to see what I like best in terms of fit and function. These monitors (and molds) are rated at 25 db of isolation, and when fit properly, this is absolutely spot on (subjectively speaking).

The cable seems a bit lightweight, but hopefully looks are deceiving and it'll last a long time. In any case, it is detachable and replacements are available. The over-the-ear loop makes them comfortable.

There is only one thing I would have liked to have seen added with regard to the cable, and that would be some sort of clip like a lapel clip that would hold the cable in place on your body. I guess if you're connecting into a wireless pack on your hip this is unnecessary, but I'm hardwired in as a drummer, so the weight of the cable is a problem. I'll rig up something. Probably even athletic or surgical tape on my skin would work.

Bottom line, if you are interested in moving to IEM, this is an excellent product for the price. BUT... if you can afford the higher price points of the UM Pro 20 or 30 or even the 50, get those instead. I can only imagine they must sound amazing given what I'm hearing with this entry-level model.

Comments about WESTONE UM Pro 10 In-Ear Monitors:

I'm not a traveling full time musician so I needed something professional that wouldn't break the bank. I tried the Shure 215's and while they had great sound as well the ear pieces and cord was just much too cumbersome. The UM Pro 10's have similar high quality sound (for single driver) but are much more comfortable to wear. Maybe a littl less low end but that's actually what I prefer.

Purchased these as an alternative to Shure 215's. Wife prefers them over the Shure's. Smaller earpiece, different tips. More comfortable for her. Also easier to insert. The wire around the ear is lighter and easier to mold than the 215's.
Sound is clear and well balanced. Excellent for use as IEM's for live sound.

These are comfortable and come with a variety of foam and silicone ear pieces to accommodate most people. Good isolation using the foam. The sound quality is good, considering the price point. Some may find them favoring the highs and midrange. I am a drummer and mostly use them to hear a click track while playing with other musicians. I use the foam in one ear and silicone in the other so I can hear others play and not totally lose the click. The right side was dead on arrival, but one call had another set on the way and I received them quickly and in working order. I highly recommend getting the pro coverage as a replacement cable for these babies is more than 3 times the cost of coverage!!! They serve my purpose well and will do fine until I can justify spending $400+ for custom fit, multi driver in-ear monitors. Kudos to MF for their quick response and great service!
