Voyage Air TransAxe Telair VET-2 Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard Blemished - Like New (H64974)

An electric guitar that folds in half and fits in carry-on luggage compartments.

The Voyage-Air TelAir VET-2 electric guitar has vibe and tone that harkens back to the single-coil solid body guitars of the 50's - the instruments that paved the rock revolution.

Included are two custom ToneRider single-coil pickups that are specially designed for their positions in the new TelAir. These Alnico-V pickups build on the acclaimed tone of vintage guitars from the early Rock era, while adding rich harmonics that come from design that is specific to the TelAir.

There's lots more that will make this a landmark guitar. The body is solid Alder, and the neck is solid select Canadian Maple. It also has Mother of Pearl position marker dots. The Volume and Tone controls are unique to the Voyage-Air TelAir, and are a special concentric design: Volume is the larger at the bottom, and Tone is smaller on the top. A traditional three-position toggle switch is located where you'd expect to make fast changes while on stage.

Finished in a high-gloss Jet Black finish, the TelAir has a Vintage Green pickguard that reinforces the vintage roots of this instrument. Scale Length is 24 3/4", making this guitar easy to play.

The revolutionary design makes traveling with a guitar a breeze. Simply loosen the strap button and easily fold the guitar in half for easy storage inside the custom backpack carrying case. When you're ready to play it, unfold-tighten the bolt and it's nearly in tune.

The specially-designed DuraTrans case is included, which has a storage pocket, and concealed backpack straps. When put in its case, the TelAir is ready for the road.

This is a guitar that will appeal to rockers looking for that 'single-coil spank.' It's also a natural for Country Music, and for use with slides. Of course, like all Voyage-Air guitars, it folds in half to fit into the included gig bag.

Well I put it thru the paces - it works well, amazingly close to in-tune after breakdown and re-set. Case could be even maybe a little smaller. Sound is like a Rickenbacker to me: the neck scale is the shorter one, like Gibson, so it has some bass authority, but the maple neck and alder body give it the Fender clarity as well, and this reminds me of a Rickenbacker solid body I used to have. Has the noise-cancel only in the middle setting (both pickups) but overall pretty quiet anyway. Quality is medium-high, about like a Fender American or $700 Ibanez, but has the 1.42mm nut width, (sort of the one in the middle) which is my preference, and comes set up .10-.46 strings, intonation spot-on. Of two I tried, one had the neck angle set too high (thus 4 stars), but the other was just right. The one I have set up to play feels solid and balanced. The neck is too thick for me, I will surely sand it down to the more modern "C" shape. Overall, good "piano tone". I would like a chambered version personally, but this one is medium weight. Finish is nice. Overall, a good experience, glad I bought it. Nice tuners, but not locking. Fingerboard maple, gloss on front. Used Vox amps to try it out. Sound is more balanced than a tele.

  • folding works without a hitch, very convenient, but complex mechanic if you work on it

As reviewed by Mark Aldridge on 5/7/2013

ok, I got 2 of these, One was very playable, the other not so great. The neck is difficult to separate if you want to work on it, and one had too much of an angle to lower the strings to where the bridge screws could be lowered so as not poke thru, as they do sometimes on these Fenderish bridges. Neck is a little chunky for me, but can sand down. Quality is upper middle. Tolerances and metrics, other than just mentioned, are very good. I like a guitar at 7.5 lbs or less (personal preference) so this is a little heavy compared to my other instruments, but the best thing about this guitar is that it sounds a lot like a Rickenbacker. :)
