Overview

The Vox amPlug Metal is a headphone amp that can help you to create the perfect practice session. The tiny amPlug plugs directly into your guitar--then just plug in your headphones and relish some great Vox tone.

Jamming late at night? Don't want to wake the neighbors? Maybe you want to work out a lick with your MP3 player without taking the time to set up your amp. You want to play guitar right now. amPlug is the answer. Simply plug this palm-sized headphone guitar amp directly into your guitar, and enjoy serious guitar sound anywhere, anytime.

Even with its ultra-compact size, amPlug perfectly reproduces the complex and warm distortion that is distinctive of a vacuum tube, as well as the powerful high gain produced by a large amp stack. Using analog modeling technology, the Vox amPlug delivers full-fledged amp sound.

Even the circuit response of the original amp is simulated completely. The simulation extends not only to the response of the tone circuits, but also to the way in which the high frequency and gain are affected when you turn down the volume control of the guitar. Every detail has been faithfully reproduced.

amPlug can be used in numerous ways. With up to fifteen hours of battery life, it's easy to take amPlug anywhere. In addition to practicing at home, it's a great way to warm up before a live performance or on the road. And amPlug is not just a convenient way to get great guitar sound. There's also an AUX input jack so you can jam along with your CD/MP3 player.

Metal delivers the explosive roar of US high-gain metal sound, and uses two stages of ultra-high gain plus a mid-cut circuit, giving you modern metal high-gain sound anywhere and anytime.

Also available in AC30, that emulates the AC30 top boost sound of a vintage VOX AC30, and Classic Rock, which gives you the great high-gain sound of a UK-made 100W amp.

I have been looking for years now a product that would allow me to quietly play my guitar and not need to carry around a large multi effects petal in my pocket. If you too have been looking..look no further! This amPlug not only sounds good but you can also play your music thru it! I have tried other portable amps, but this sounds the best. I will grab the Classic in the near future so that I can change between my two favorite sounds! thank's Vox, it about time someone did this!

It's ok. I mean, the thing works. My problem is that the sound I get out if it is very harsh. It is not warm as advertised. With the tone knob (which doesn't do a whole lot) turned down to 3 or 4 I can get some warm tones but its very heavy on the treble side. But its compact design is great for portability, and it's gone a full year without having to change batteries. One wish is that with the distortion knob backed all the way down, one could get a nice clean tone. Instead it's a gritty tone with lots of bite (which can be good in some cases, but I'm thinking in terms of maximum versatility).

Bought this expecting both good gain and a okay clean sound not the case...if you want both don't buy it but if all you want is gain then it is a good purchase.

      Great for the price

      By Logan West

I travel a lot to places where you can't really be loud. This amp is the perfect solution to my problem. Only thing that kept it from 5 stars is some hiss and volume (For the best tone it needs to be quiet IMO)

      great at first

      By Tommy Poe

      from Midlothian, Va

I got this headphone amp with a new ESP EC 10 for my birthday in February. At first I loved it. It was everything that I wanted. Then, a few days ago, my auxilary plug was very loose inside the jack. I had to jiggle the plug to get it to work right. Then I could not fix it at all, and then the headphone jack is doing the same thing. Now I guess I have to get a small amp with a distortion pedal. Thats a shame, because it worked so great at first.

4 stars because there isn't a good overdrive sound, or ability to adjust tone controls (bass/mid/treb). You can get great distortion, and a couple different kinds. I play it through a strat mostly because it sits in the jack nicely. The thing has the same basic tone whether your playing single coils or hums, high or low output - sure there are differences, but they are not major differences, so just pick the guitar that the jack sits in nicely. Different headphones sound differently, like I find my Bose headphones to be too bassy, and the cheaper ipod headphones actually sound better. This thing has a TONE of bass. So yeah not super versatile, but definitely good for metal, and crazy over the top heavy distortion. I don't find the low gain tones to be anything near a good overdrive, once you get down there it just gets weak and fizzy. But for what it does, its nice.

        Great lil Crunch

        By Nick Davis

        from MS

Got this lil fellow to help with the late night urge to practice and house full of sleeping children, dogs and wife. It has surpassed my personal expectations, introduced this to well seasoned player and he said he would be getting one soon. Only thing is if you don't play alot of lower tones riffs then it's deff not for you but if you dig that crunch then this satisfies that need totally. I am bout 99% sure I am getting another model (classic Rock or Lead) to practice less darker tones and riffs. Great buy for my buck!

        This things great!

        By Randy Johnson

        from Iowa

If you're on the fence....just buy one. For the price it is well worth the fun and convience!
This little thing ROCKS! Ofcourse you need some decent earbuds, but the sound is really amazing! I was hesitant to buy one, but I said what the hell. I was pleasantly surprised and for the price it was worth it. I may try some of the other sounds.
It's plastic, but what isn't anymore.
