Overview

The Vox amPlug Metal is a headphone amp that can help you to create the perfect practice session. The tiny amPlug plugs directly into your guitar--then just plug in your headphones and relish some great Vox tone.

Jamming late at night? Don't want to wake the neighbors? Maybe you want to work out a lick with your MP3 player without taking the time to set up your amp. You want to play guitar right now. amPlug is the answer. Simply plug this palm-sized headphone guitar amp directly into your guitar, and enjoy serious guitar sound anywhere, anytime.

Even with its ultra-compact size, amPlug perfectly reproduces the complex and warm distortion that is distinctive of a vacuum tube, as well as the powerful high gain produced by a large amp stack. Using analog modeling technology, the Vox amPlug delivers full-fledged amp sound.

Even the circuit response of the original amp is simulated completely. The simulation extends not only to the response of the tone circuits, but also to the way in which the high frequency and gain are affected when you turn down the volume control of the guitar. Every detail has been faithfully reproduced.

amPlug can be used in numerous ways. With up to fifteen hours of battery life, it's easy to take amPlug anywhere. In addition to practicing at home, it's a great way to warm up before a live performance or on the road. And amPlug is not just a convenient way to get great guitar sound. There's also an AUX input jack so you can jam along with your CD/MP3 player.

Metal delivers the explosive roar of US high-gain metal sound, and uses two stages of ultra-high gain plus a mid-cut circuit, giving you modern metal high-gain sound anywhere and anytime.

Also available in AC30, that emulates the AC30 top boost sound of a vintage VOX AC30, and Classic Rock, which gives you the great high-gain sound of a UK-made 100W amp.

I have been looking for years now a product that would allow me to quietly play my guitar and not need to carry around a large multi effects petal in my pocket. If you too have been looking..look no further! This amPlug not only sounds good but you can also play your music thru it! I have tried other portable amps, but this sounds the best. I will grab the Classic in the near future so that I can change between my two favorite sounds! thank's Vox, it about time someone did this!

It's ok. I mean, the thing works. My problem is that the sound I get out if it is very harsh. It is not warm as advertised. With the tone knob (which doesn't do a whole lot) turned down to 3 or 4 I can get some warm tones but its very heavy on the treble side. But its compact design is great for portability, and it's gone a full year without having to change batteries. One wish is that with the distortion knob backed all the way down, one could get a nice clean tone. Instead it's a gritty tone with lots of bite (which can be good in some cases, but I'm thinking in terms of maximum versatility).

Great for the price

By Logan West

from York, Nebraska

I travel a lot to places where you can't really be loud. This amp is the perfect solution to my problem. Only thing that kept it from 5 stars is some hiss and volume (For the best tone it needs to be quiet IMO)

great at first

By Tommy Poe

from Midlothian, Va

I got this headphone amp with a new ESP EC 10 for my birthday in February. At first I loved it. It was everything that I wanted. Then, a few days ago, my auxilary plug was very loose inside the jack. I had to jiggle the plug to get it to work right. Then I could not fix it at all, and then the headphone jack is doing the same thing. Now I guess I have to get a small amp with a distortion pedal. Thats a shame, because it worked so great at first.

VERY PLEASED!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FOR SILENT QUALITY PRACTICE!

By Devin

from Seattle, WA

I was skeptical until I watched some videos on youtube that people had posted. I was surprised with the sound quality, very nice! Alot of flexibility to suit your individual preference of distortion with it's tone, gain, and volume knob. This little amplug delivers! I love it! It has an input jack for your headphones and another aux input to connect your ipod/mp3 player to jam to your favorite songs. This would make an excellent practice tool if you are playing cover songs or practicing silently to your own recorded originals. Personally I think this is better than buying a practice amp. It is small enough to stick into your gig bag or case. It runs off of (2) AAA batteries that are included!!! nice! Another reason this amplug is great is the fact that it does not need a guitar cable. it just sticks in to your input jack and stays in there. Bottom line I love it! I recommend you buy one, and if your not sure, look at the reviews! and watch this in action online

What a Little Beast

By Carl

from Annapolis, Maryland

This amPlug is a beast. The tone and distortion are unbelievable for such a small amp for the headphones. I also plug this thing to my mini Marshall stack, it blows the built in distortion away. It even has better distortion than most distortion pedals and the built in distortion in my Line 6 Spider 3 amp. Turn the distortion down bluesy warm tone, or crank it up for death metal distortion. The tone control is really versatile, very good. I have had the Metal amPlug for a couple of years now, I can't believe I haven't wrote a review yet. My wife bought it for me for Christmas so she didn't have to hear my regular amps. I highly recommend the Metal amPlug to any metalhead whether you need not to disturb anyone, or if you want to run a patch cord to an amp, with an adapter, you can be loud. I may just get the Lead amPlug for the delay.

Play Hard and long

By Charles

from Clarksburg

Okay, I have the Lead and this one. And the only thing that can make either one better than it already is, is if you were able to plug some other peddles into these babies to get different tones and effects.

Great for New Dads

By Dave

from Port Monmouth, NJ

Just had twins, was stressed about lack of playing/practicing, couldn't crank the Marshall, acoustic is too loud in my small house at night so, this was a great stress reliever. Also wanted mobility, now I can walk around the house jamming with out bothering the kids or wife. I play next to my wife while she catches up on TV. So cool. It's very small, light weight and sounds great, even has a warm hum simulated. Best purchase in years.

AWESOME!

By Brandon

from Staten Island, New York

I read the reviews on here and they all said 5 stars. so i figured i'd give it a shot, i dont really have a good amp so this really helped out. i really enjoy the sound i get from it. i am able to play all my favorite songs on it, and i would gladly buy a second one if i had to. it's really helped me with guitar because i can walk around my house and practice, go sit out in my backyard and practice, go to the park, go anywhere and not have to lug a heavy amp around with me. its perfect for on the go playing and late night playing. Glad this was finally made.

If youre in the market for something like this, this is the one to have.A decent set of headphones(to open the amps full potential)makes this a good addition to your gear.I havnt plugged it into my stereo yet but Im sure it'll fill a room with the hard metal crunch we all like. Its also an easy way to always play everyday,no xcuses.
