Works As Expected

By Bill Poplawski

from San Mateo California

I have been using the device for a week. I pair it with my Squier P-Bass and Bose QuietComfort 15 head phones. I still need to pick up a cable so I can port in my metronome that runs on my Mac. I also plug it into the output jack on my Korg Chromatic Tuner where I plug my Rumble amp cable into the bass and input on the Korg. Ordered it from the Guitar Center store and it arrived a few days later. My normal practice area does not have a mirror. With this device I can easily move to a room with a mirror so I can watch my finger action and form.

Ideal headphone amp for bass players

By Justin Ng

from College Station, TX

Good volume and decent sound out of this little Vox amp. I was looking for something that I could carry in my bass case while on the road and wanting to play. If you have a bottom jack, it's a little hard to see the controls (3 knobs), but this isn't hard to get used to. Will be interested to see if I can combine the headphone amp with pedals for quiet FX experiment, or possibly recording.

Great.

By Mason Harris

from Keene, NH.

I bought this at my local music shop today, and I couldn't be happier. It works great for practice! It's a bit pricey, but other than that it's a great little gadget.

mighty vox

By mike Arellano

from south elgin, illinois

I purchased this product a week ago thru on-line. UPS was fast and need not to wait long for this product with 99.9% cons in their reviews. I considered this tiny but mighty pocket size vox amplug bass headphone amp as the best sounding gadjet I ever had, I play music by ear and its crystal clear to hear every note of the vintage bass sound and able to play bass cover without a sweat. I honestly recommend this mighty vox to all musicians who wants to play late night without disturbing anybody and enjoy jamming with your favorite sounds before sleeping soundly and feel very satisfied. I intend to buy also the AC30.....

Fantastic Headphone Unit. A Great 'Bang For Your Buck'

By Sean

from Austin, TX

I am as happy as can be with this little guy. Despite being a tiny plastic thing by image, it really does a great job. I have been using it with the Hofner Beatle Bass with flatwounds and have been very happy with the sounds I get out of this thing. You definitely want some good headphones with this guy as the typical tv/video game ones I used first couldn't handle the bass steadily enough and would cut in and out. I splurged and bought the Sony 7506 headphones and bam, this guy rocks! To the point I'm afraid I'm offending people with loudness, just to take my headphones off and be slightly numb of hearing to be told that they didn't hear anything but the strings being plucked. It has decent controls ranging from clean to slightly dirty. It fits in near any pocket of a bag and so far I've done about five hours of play time and the batteries are still good. Note: I put different batteries in it from the get-go, I don't ever trust the free batteries in things. I have heard complaints of the battery door coming off easily, though mine hasn't I feel it can, so I just put a little electrical tape on it as a precaution and don't even see it there it blends so well. I only found two cons with it. The first and obvious is that being small and of thin plastic, it probably won't hold well to abuse, if you are playing while sitting, make sure to know where it is and not move while it's plugged in and bang it on something, it may damage. The second is that at the higher levels of volume or adjustments I hear a little background static. The static goes away at about the 5 level of each dial, which is plenty of juice, as I said before at those levels my ears went a little numb. Of course, this is a $50 part and I'd imagine if I spent double that or more the static wouldn't be there at all, but I am still very happy and pleased. Fantastic tone, it with good headphones actually sounds better than my amp! I have the Acoustic B100, certainly not prime name, but the amp rocks. It's just too loud to practice with early or late and being a learner, I often don't care to advertise my learning. Speaking of, I still get a bit of fret buzz when hitting strings that I can hear, when using this guy, I don't hear anything unless the buzz is baad. I mean talk about smooth sound. If I knew then when starting and buying my first bit of gear what I know now, I would have probably passed on the amp just to have this and the phones as you can jam good and loud without roommates and the like getting mad. If you are a beginner and are just getting started, getting this and some good headphones may be the best bet for you- then save up and about the time you get good and want to show off to your friends, you'll have good money for a nice amp! I've also tried the Ac-30 for Guitar, it sounds good all and all, but this Bass one rocks!

So, how long has this thing been out?

By Obsolipsist

from Yorkville, IL

Wonderful tone, active or passive input, even keeps my piezo-only no-pre-amp stick upright's top-end scraping torture under reasonable control. Can finally practice at work, discreetly. A real can't miss tool.

This product made me rediscover the bass

By Adam Meyer

from New Berlin, WI

I have an old Fender p-bass lyte. The sound was always awful whenever I would turn up the volume on my amp. I could never tell if it was the amp or the bass. I had always wanted one of these headphone rigs and finally bought this one because it was the cheapest and looked the best. Let me tell you, it was not the bass. I unpackaged the product and popped in 2 AAA batteries (included). It is pretty compact, and the L shape is a lot sleeker than the mouse-shaped competitors. I hooked up the unit (mine comes out the bottom edge, not outward like some) and a good pair of headphones. The headphones hook up easy out the end; no need to flip your bass up to find where it is. There is also an AUX jack I have never used, but seems interesting. I took some time adjusting the gain, tone, and volume controls along with the ones on the bass, but was already impressed with the sound from the start. It was nice that you could just reach down and move your fingers over the bottom edge. When I was finished I had a wondeful deep bass sound that I could never get from my amp. The on switch can be pushed another notch for a distortion sound. I don't know why anyone would want that. It just sounds like an electric guitar. Pros: sound quality, easy design, cheaper than a new amp. Cons: could be a little louder, I play it as loud as it goes, fx is useless to me, price? The cons are pretty minimal. Now I play my bass a lot more again, thanks to this product.

Great Amp

By Moe Towne

from Malvern, Ar.

Was about to buy an acoustic bass to practice on to keep from having to hook up to amp all the time, when I found out about this. Man, this works like a dream. I can put my lessons on my ipod and hook up to aux port and jam away without disturbing the whole house.

Delighted

By Jennet

from DeForest, WI

The Vox Amplug for the electric bass has solved my problem of having to lug an amp around everywhere I need to practice. I've always been jealous of the tiny amps that guitar players are able use and travel with; plugging a bass into one of those gives pretty unsatisfactory results. Given that, I was surpised at how good the bass sounds in earphones with the amplug--a device so small, that I can actually wrap my hand around it. No, it's not as good as a full size bass amplifier, but the sound is decent. I tried plugging it into the output jacks of some other devices--various CD/mp3 players. It works, but as expected, the quality of the sound depends on the quality of the speaker on the device, and it is really easy to overdrive them. For my purposes, I didn't see the need for the compression setting. I haven't tried the input jack yet.

Just like the real thing

By Shepdog

from Chicago, IL

Just received a speedy delivery from Guitar Center of this VOX headphone amp and a new pair of Shure SRH440 headphones. THIS IS A WINNING COMBINATION! If the neighbors are complaining abour the rumbling coming from your 500 watt MarkBass, this is the solution. Incredible sound and no mucky-muck. Just plug and play.
