Overview

The Vox amPlug AC30 is a headphone amp that can help you to create the perfect practice session. The tiny amPlug plugs directly into your guitar--then just plug in your headphones and relish some great Vox tone.

Jamming late at night? Don't want to wake the neighbors? Maybe you want to work out a lick with your MP3 player without taking the time to set up your amp. You want to play guitar right now. amPlug is the answer. Simply plug this palm-sized headphone guitar amp directly into your guitar, and enjoy serious guitar sound anywhere, anytime.

Even with its ultra-compact size, amPlug perfectly reproduces the complex and warm distortion that is distinctive of a vacuum tube, as well as the powerful high gain produced by a large amp stack. Using analog modeling technology, the Vox amPlug delivers full-fledged amp sound.

Even the circuit response of the original amp is simulated completely. The simulation extends not only to the response of the tone circuits, but also to the way in which the high frequency and gain are affected when you turn down the volume control of the guitar. Every detail has been faithfully reproduced.

amPlug can be used in numerous ways. With up to fifteen hours of battery life, it's easy to take amPlug anywhere. In addition to practicing at home, it's a great way to warm up before a live performance or on the road. And amPlug is not just a convenient way to get great guitar sound. There's also an AUX input jack so you can jam along with your CD/MP3 player.

AC30 emulates the AC30 top boost sound of a vintage VOX AC30, and uses two natural-sounding gain stages to reproduce the distinctive AC30 tone.

Also available in Classic Rock, based on a UK-made amplifier head, and Metal, based on a California-made high-gain amplifier head.

I bought this because I have a wife and baby son, but I made sure to try it out first because I'm a toniophile. It's hard not to be a skeptic when you're staring at a tiny plastic AC30 - but Plug that bad boy in ... it's a SONIC TREAT! For starters, the gain & tone controls actually WORK, which is more than you can say for some mass-market combo amps. Also, it really, truly sounds like an AC30. Through the right headphones, it has a clear, fat, jammy fun sound. Husbands/dads: start making excuses to get out and buy this now. I guarantee this amp will QUADRUPLE your playing time.

I bought this after reading the raving reviews. The concept is brilliant and I had assumed that this little wonder would mean I could practice anytime without disturbing anyone else. However, I found that the output level is too low with the gain turned down and it sounds like an amp with torn speaker when it's turned up to a usable sound level. Overall I do like the concept but the AC30 has limited use. I recommend that you ask the shop or try one out before buying.

Great sound, little package

By Steve

from Southern California

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

Itۡs hard to believe this little piece of plastic puts out so much great sound! Clean to crunchy with plenty of volume and working controls. I originally purchased the headphone amp so that I could hear myself in a group acoustic guitar class. It exceeded by expectations. Now, it goes everywhere with my hollow body. It is so light that it isnۡt noticeable on the guitar and the batteries last longer than 15 hours. If anything happened to it, I would buy a replacement without a second thought. I have no complaints. The only technological addition I would like to see is built in blue tooth.

Limitless Potential

By Chuck M.

from Boston, MA

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

I purchased this unit because I wanted to be able to practice in silence in the evening, not wanting to wake my two small children, or my wife. It sounds great through headphones, nice tone, very clean and spankey, and crunchy when you turn up the gain. Then I thought..what if I get an 1/8 headphone jack to RCA cable to hook up to my TV suround sound receiver. I went home, hooked it up to some audio ins that were not in use on my receiver, and "WHAM"...instant AC30 in my living room!...Now I know it won't do nearly half the stuff of a real AC30, but for what I paid, it sounds amazing. Granted, I do have a pretty good suround sound system, so I'm sure that helps. I figured I would share this with some players on a budget. Turn it up to 11 mates!

Never Play Unplugged Again

By Zack Wentz

from Boulder, CO

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

I recently just went to a jazz camp at University of Northern Colorado and this product was a lifesaver. I play bass, but I used this to practice in my dorm and it was great. You can get a hard, crunchy sound to a mellow smooth sound. If you are an active musician that practices unplugged, you need this product!!

NO MORE SPONGEBOB!!!!!!!!!

By Frequency09

from Chandler, AZ

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

This thing is pretty slick. I can jam on this puppy, without having to listen to the SpongeBob cartoon blasting in the house. My amp is massive and loud, doesn't have a headphone input. And I don't want to compete with the television. So this is the solution. No more SpongeBob. As for the sound think U2 Edge-idge!!! Heck it inspires me to play more, and write more music. I can play anytime day or night in peace.

Small and awesome.

By tele fan

from West Sayville, NY

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

A fairly awesome little practice tool, the Vox AC30 amPlug provides you with some usable tones right from your headphones. With my tele, the tone is a little harsh if I leave it too high, but sounds great when left around 4. Bring a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter to an open mic, and you have usable electric tones through the PA. Highly recommended.

This is really great

By Jeff

from Fresno, California

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

I bought this so as to practice privately, not to disturb the neighbors. The sound it makes is great, sounds like a real AC30. The line input jack can be used to add recordings to play along with (cd player, mp3 player, drum machine etc). I have had mine for about one month now, no problems with it. The small size makes it easy to store in the gig bag if you want to go somewhere and practice away from home. I use it frequently on my outdoor patio on a nice day. At home I can get up and move about without tripping on or running out of cables. This is a must have if you want portability and privacy while playing.

great driven tube amp sound!

By Tele Dave

from York, PA

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

I like to play my Tele with anything from clean tones to edgy tube overdriven tones ala Joe Walsh, Jimmy Page, etc. I can get it from my old Marshall beast, but, uh, yeah, it's loud! My Scholz Rockman sounds good, but doesn't have adjustable drive and doesn't let my Tele "breath" the good ole Tele tones well. Then, I heard about the AC30 headphone amp. I read the reviews and still was not sold. Then I went to GC and tried one with a Tele. YEAH!! Sounds Great!! And, I get my infinitely adjustable drive! I can go from country clean to Howlin Wolf bark to Led Zep dirt. And, the CD input allows me to play with the "boys." Great buy!

Great for the money

By VTAmpsUSA

from Rochester, NY

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

I bought this little sucker so I could get some practice in during lunch at work or when the GF is sleeping in. I must say I am pretty impressed! I didn't play one before buying because I thought the clips were good and I figured it should sound exactly the same. I'd say it is about 90% of what the clips give... it is a little noisy and hashy, you can tell it is SS but it isn't annoying or bad sounding. It actually sounds mint when clean - it has a really rich, full tone with some harmonic detail and chimes like a real VOX. It almost sounds like it has a light chorus and reverb effect to it. The gain is pretty good, not very dynamic as it seems to compress very hard so you don't get the soul like you would out of a real tube amp but the more I play it the more I get used to it and it isn't completely digital feeling on the dynamic, it has some expression. I feel the bass is a little loose with alot of gain but that may be intentional as the AC30 isn't the tightest amp I can think of. Overall well worth the money - it will far exceed you expectations - it did mine and I am super picky.

Does Justice to the Full Size AC30

By Travis

from Minneapolis, Minnesota

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

This is a Korg made (Vox Licensed) device that very closely mimics the top boost tone of the Vox AC30. I was very surprised at the tonal quality. Perfect for anyone with people who hate that loud racket, and great for anyone looking to find that jangly Vox Sound.

Quality practice amp!

By Mrghos

from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

Bought it today, popped it into the Epiphone Les Paul 2010 Tribute and WOW! Cant say enough good things about it. Simple, quality sound and build. I am a beginning guitarist and for the price and what you get this item cant be beat. Very little hiss even with gain all the way up. I have a good set of high quality DJ headphones also. It gets pretty good clean tones also. I see no reason why it will not stand test of time. It is made of plastic, but I dont plan on tossing it around either. Has aux for MP3 player, volumn, gain and tone knobs. No effects but as a beginner, I am more interested in tones and effects of guitar and not reverb, delay, flanger, etc... For that I have a multi-effects pedal. For quick practice session anywhere in my house, this pick up and go unit is king!

A Good Deal

By Billy

from St.Louis

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

This was far better than I expected. The volume doesn't get too loud with external speakers, but it's excellant for head phones which is what it is suppose to be used for. It has a surprisingly open sound, makes me want a full size Vox. I would by this again.

Big sound from a little amp

By James Barrett

from Louisburg, NC

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

Bought this "headphone" amp to go with my new Traveler Ultra-Light Acoustic Electric. They work nicely together and give a big sound with high sustain on the "clean", and a throaty crunch at high gain. I am using the amPlug AC30 with headphones during high-stress moments at work, but I plugged it into my desktop speakers, and they sounded remarkably good, as well. I would recommmend this device to anyone who wants to hear what they're playing without raising the ire of neighbors, wives, office-mates, etc.

Headphone to Pedal Chain

By Jack Thompson

from Brown Deer WI

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

My favorite amp is the Vox AC30, that being said the real deal AC30 amp is very expensive. I bought this for my headphones and WOW....nice sound. So I started to experiment a little and have found that at the end of a pedal chain I can run my tube screamer, chorus or delay effect right through it just like a much larger amp. I then use a male to male line out to my Roland Cube 30 monitor and wha la inexpensive AC30 amp! Awesome!!

Good product

By Stewart Locklear

from Fayetteville NC

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

This does exactly what it promises. It works with headphones and delivers a good sound. Great for practicing and easy to get started without a lot of hassle. It doesn't offer much in the way of tone control and I would never use it for recording. Summary: A good product at a fair price.

Gotta have this in your toolbox!

By dan fugitt

from Las Vegas

Comments about Vox amPlug AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

I don't often write product reviews - but I gotta tell you - this gadget is a must for every player's toolbox! I don't care if you have a recording studio in the basement - you can practice or play anywhere. The sound is clean and has less noise than most small practice amps! Forget about trying to get distortion or overdriving the device - keep it clean and don't blow out your ears like I did with years of headphone use! Tinnitus is a drag! A side benefit is you can get up and move around without tethers - no need to get all unstrapped just cause you gotta go boy's room - simply play as you go! haha! Seriously, this is so cool I think every guitar should come with one! Can't wait an affordable bluetooth device that works just as well!
