Overview

Offering the easiest way to enjoy true analog amplifier sound in your headphones, the amPlug series has been a bestseller since it first appeared in 2007.

With amPlug 2, the crucial analog circuit has been drastically improved, and each model now provides three modes. Guitar types provide multi-effect functionality, and a rhythm function has been added to the bass type. A foldable plug mechanism that rotates 180 degrees and an auto power-off function are additional features that contribute significantly to improved convenience and ease of use.

The amPlug is the simplest way to get serious sound; occupying virtually no space, it's an ideal choice for any guitarist or bassist.

Plug the amPlug into your guitar and enjoy serious sound. It's that simple!
To use the palm-sized amPlug, just plug it into your guitar and grab your headphones. Playing your guitar or bass with amPlug results in serious amp sound that's overflowing with presence. A wide range of variation is available, as the lineup consists of four models: "AC30" provides the AC30 top-boost sound, "Classic Rock" gives you the classic crunch sound of a UK-made 100W amp, "Metal" delivers the extreme high-gain sound of a US-made amp, and "Bass" is designed specifically for bass.

A completely analog design accurately simulates the circuits of classic tube amplifiers, resulting in a rich, detailed sound.

While retaining the fully analog multi-stage gain circuit, additional refinements have been made toward reproducing the sound and performance of real tube amps. These refinements include factors such as reproducing the way a tube amp responds to different guitars, pickups, and volume as well as recreating the sense of air movement within the speaker cabinet. As a result, the carefully selected circuit structure and components of the new amPlug delivers a more highly evolved sound.

Nine selectable effects provide a great range of sonic variation
The second-generation amPlug adds a variety of new functions. To give you more variety, each amp provides three modes. "AC30" provides use of a tremolo circuit, "Classic Rock" features a mid-boost, "Metal" gives you mid-cut and "Bass" allows the amount of gain to be switched. The three guitar-type models also provide nine selectable effects with three types of Chorus, Delay and Reverb, while "Bass" contains nine different rhythm patterns. With versatile sound and functionality that is uncommon of such a compact unit, these models enable you to get even more serious about your guitar or bass playing.

Foldable plug that rotates 180 degrees
The plug that you insert into your guitar can rotate in five steps up to 180 degrees, enabling it to be adjusted for optimal visibility. This design also allows even more compact storage in your guitar's case or gig bag.

Auto power-off function ensures longer battery life
We've added a function that automatically turns off the power even, if you leave the unit with the power on. Since this function works by detecting operations or audio signals within a certain length of time (30 minutes), it has absolutely no effect on normal use. This feature further enhances the convenience of the amPlug.

amPlug is the most convenient way to play
With the amPlug providing up to 17 hours of battery-powered operation, you'll be able to play anytime and anywhere. Since there's no need for a guitar cable, it's a great way of practicing at home, or warming up before a live performance or while on tour. Also, there's an AUX in jack for your MP3 player, so you can jam along with your favorite songs.

This Vox AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp has awesome sound for what it is. (Reverb and 1st stage tremolo is a decent setting) It's convenient to travel with also. Just be cognisant of how this unit plugs into your guitar and you should be OK. Works better with strats for plug in purposes. (watch a little closer with the Les Pauls) It gives good song writing vibes under the headphones. It's great to quickly plug in and write that song you're thinking about. Good for when you don't want to get all the cords and amps out too. It's a great tool, I bring this and my headphones with me to Guitar Centers and try out guitars in peace, without having to listen to blaring Metallica, Stairway to Heaven or Sweet Child O' Mine. THANK YOU VOX FOR THAT!

The problem is that the AC30 (2nd gen) cuts out after about 2 minutes. I believe there is a manufacturing or design problem in the standby circuitry which is supposed to switch to standby mode after 10 minutes of silence. I had two of these AC30's with the exact same problem. Initially, it works perfectly with the LED showing green, amber or red depending on the mode. The FX also gave the aural beeps (1, 2, or 3) for the intensity of the effect. After about a week the LED no longer stayed on. Still worked correctly though. Then after another week, it would just stop working in the middle of playing. After waiting about 3 or 4 minutes, it would work correctly again but for only a minute, then would cut off again. If VOX can correct this it will be one a great plug-in. But until then, be aware! And you might ask yourself why the AC30 is suddenly only $29.99 when the other models are still $39.99 & $49.99.

I like this little device because it's small enough to take anywhere. It sounds good and is functional in that I can practice privately without disturbing people in the next room. The aux input is a nice feature too. It suits my needs so I'm pretty satisfied.

Semi-retired but stll gigging, I love this little mini-amp. Great tone through headphones or small speaker. I can practice any time I want without waking up the household. In addition to variable tone and volume there are three built-in effects. I have two other VOX amps and the tone on this little gem can get pretty close. I also got the model for bass for my second band.

Comments about Vox amPlug 2 AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

This is a great sounding little amp, when used with good headphones. It makes a huge difference on what kind of headphones you use. If your using earbuds then it might not sound so good. I am using over the ear Beats and the sound is amazing. I also have plugged into my Harman Kardon Bluetooth Onyx 2 speaker and it makes an awesome little portable practice amp! I think the build quality is about where it needs to be for this type item. It needs to be light weight and simple to use. The only issue I see is using it with a guitar with the output on the bottom. It makes it hard to sit on the couch and play as I keep bumping it on my leg.(I know it is not the best way to practice). I will probably get a 1 foot cable with a 90 degree male end and a female connector to fix this issue.

Comments about Vox amPlug 2 AC30 Guitar Headphone Amp:

I'm an Airman in tech school. I wanted something that was compact, would give me the versatility of sound, but would also not take up space and bother my roommates. I watched a lot of video reviews to try to get the best idea of what it sounded like, but I decided I had to hear it for myself. It has the versatility to get good cleans and crunch, like a true tube amp. You can even set it to where it's clean but it breaks up more the harder you hit the strings. Overall, very warm, but probably best suited for standard tuning, wouldn't reccomend fkr downtuning, only because it tends to get very muddy. I would've gone for the metal version, but I read that you can't get completely clean tones out of it. If all you want is metal/ djenty type distortion, go for that. Plug it up to a small portable speaker with an aux chord and you have a nice sounding mini amp set up. You can then turn the gain and tone all the way up on the amp, turn the speaker volume down, and you get quiet but good distortion. Now the effects are a little too overbearing for my taste, and you can't adjust their intensity. And for some reason on the red channel, I can't get the vibrato effect to go away. I've never heard of that complaint, so I'm guessing it's just mine, but it's annoying nonetheless.

I love this little device. It allows me to play guitar at night without disturbing anyone in the house. I have the Vox tonelab multi effects pedal, but it isn't quite as easy to set up as this guy. I can now get in some practice time at any time. I mainly play acoustic, but I can't resist the urge to work on those electric licks. The guitar jack on my electric is on the edge of the body instead of the front of the guitar. This means I cannot really see the Gain, Tone, Volume, and FX controls unless I lift the bottom of the body towards me. I have learned where everything is positioned, so I can adjust with feel alone now. It was just a little challenging as I was first getting started.

I have an actual AC30 and as with most tube amps - there isn't really a 'quiet' volume. I live in an apartment and so in the early mornings or late nights I couldn't play. This has genuinely changed my life. I recommend buying a converter that adds the female end to it so that you can run a cable out from your pedal board into this and treat it like a normal amp rather than plugging directly into the guitar. Yes, it is plastic and seems a little fragile but just treat it with care, it'll be fine. It's made that way so that it's light weight. The tone is a lot more versatile than I was expecting, and the overall sound is really good. It's also far louder than you need it to be, too, which is great. I wish I had bought one of these years ago.
