As part of the VTX Series, the Valvetronix VT20X is a perfect combination of innovation and tradition. These amps combine sophisticated modeling technology with a multi-stage tube pre-amp circuit to reproduce the unique distortion, touch sensitivity, and the response that is characteristic of classic tube amps. Its unique modeling algorithm actually recreates the analog circuits of some of the most coveted tube amplifiers and allows you to adjust the gain structure and bias of the internal tube in real time. Also, when using certain models, the amp can be switched between Class A and Class AB operation.

The effects section has also been revamped and now offers 12 classic effects based on some of the most iconic stompboxes of all time. These amps also feature a USB port, which allows you to connect the amplifier to their PC, Mac or iOS device (with optional USB Camera Adapter Kit) and manage programs and customize amps and effects by using VOX’s Tone Room software. The Tone Room software allows for deep editing of all of the great amps and effects so you can carefully craft your sound, which can then be saved as one of the eight customizable programs. There is also a built-in tuner, an AUX-in jack for jamming along with recorded music, and a headphone jack for silent practice.

Features
  • Power: 20 watts
  • Speaker: custom VOX 1x8"
  • Enhanced technology from VOX delivers incredible-sounding amp models
  • Analog-inspired design utilizes a genuine 12AX7 tube
  • Bias Shift and Class features alter the circuit to recreate the response of iconic Class A and Class A/B amps
  • 12 classic effects including modulation, reverb, delay and more
  • USB connectivity and VOX Tone Room software lets you customize and create your own amps and effects

I love that VOX tone. After a full day demoing practice amps at the local guitar center, I kept coming back to this little guy (The VT20X is a newer, improved version of the VT20+). The big things for me was getting a great amp for practicing at bedroom levels in my apartment. This can get quite loud, but still holds up an amazing sound at whisper quiet levels. That is what I wanted, the other amps I tried just couldn't cut it for the price range I was looking at (Marshall MG15CFX, Peavey VYPYR VIP, Line 6 Spider IV, Fender mustang / frontman). It takes pedals well. This has a single tube in it, and it really makes a difference in sound compared to other solid state practice amps. But you don't get the steep price tag that usually accompany tube amps. I love that you can change the bias settings to carve out a legit tone. The effects are okay, as they are there mostly to play with- anyone serious about effects would use their own pedalboard. I'm mostly using the modeled AC30 sound, the fender twin clean, or the tweed crunch sound - all sound amazing. But I'm disappointed in the sound when using headphones (mine are the Audiotechnica MTH-50), it seems that headphone circuit bypasses the power amp stage. It also doesn't take the usual power cord, it needs its own that comes with it. I gig with my VOX AC15, but I don't think I would use this on stage... maybe its big brother the 40x or 60x would be good.

I use for practice. the only effect i like is the delay. I dont like the new configuration of the effects set up.I wish there was room for each effect setting. I have a hard time balancing an even volume for each channel. I guess im old school with the beleif of keeping things simple instead of getting frustrated finding a sound i like when I could just set and play. I loved the old Vox valvetronix 40 watt amp. I was very happy with the ease of setting up the right sound. I tried and tried to fall in love with it but no. I would return it if I could. Not my cup of tea whatsoever. More learning curve than I care to deal with.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT20X 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

This is a great amp especially for the money! For comparison I have 8 Amps one is a Marshall stack and so own... I also have an effects board that defies logic. I am now re thinking my whole setup. I long for simple and lite! I also run sound for my band and others and am looking to simplify things. This Amp does a lot of things very well, at this point I could grab this amp with a VT55 pedal and play gigs. My only gripe is volume control within channel setup, there is none.I can get around this mostly with my guitar volume and just keep the amp a little hot on volume. That's the only advantage the code has on this amp and i'll live with that for the better sound quality. I have pedals that cost more than this amp! Don't buy another pedal or amp until you play this thing. I am buying a 100 soon to gig with will let you know how that goes. I will probably put up a youtube video soon to show how to program the pedal. Most gear heads will figure it out with no problem but is sure is nice to have someone quickly point out the process.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT20X 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

I'm pretty picky about my sounds and the effects I like to use. I have a couple really nice valve amps, a 40w 1x12 combo and a 120w head with a 4x12 in a practice room. I also have a slough of effects like a TC Electronic Delay, MXR Dynacomp, and Reverbs, among other things. I initially bought this amp because I was going to use it to jam with my buddy at his condo where we cant really have excessive volumes and I really wanted something easy to use and be able to have all the effects I needed for practicing clean and lead sections without bringing my whole pedal board. Brought it home to my apartment and took it out of the box, immediately impressed. It has a nice warm valve tone/feel to it, all the presets are really great, especially the deluxe clean, jcm 800, and "Brit OD MKII" which I can only assume is supposed to be voiced somewhat like an Orange. The use of the effects is really great and intuitive, doesn't take much to figure it out and find what you're looking for, delay even has a tap tempo. I wouldn't buy this amp expecting to play shows or gigs. It gets plenty loud, but it really is at home playing in an apartment, condo, or small room with your friends at relatively reasonable volumes, not to mention I can carry it through my apartment building and put it in the back of my car without the risk of a herniated disc. I'm sure this would also make a great starter amp, all I could think was, where was this amp 15 years ago when I bought that awful Crate GX15. I might add that I bought this amp without playing it first, solely based on having the features that I needed. Blown Away, I get home from work every day now and play around on it for a few minutes to keep myself sharp and writing new things. Totally not above writing a great review on a really inexpensive, practical piece of gear.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT20X 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

Great things can come in small packages, and this VOX Valvetronix VT 20X is just that. Plenty of power at 20 watts to rattle the windows in a smaller venue, or light up your neighborhood with your garage rehearsals. Attractive styling and durable grill cover. Easy intuitive operation with all the amp models you'd ever want whether you're playing clean rhythm guitar or doing lots of lead work with heavy distortion. Here's the best part for me. It's small size fits in anywhere (it's a little larger than my toaster....no kiddin'), and lighter in weight than my bowling ball. I just walk in, set it down, plug my Strat into it (1/4" jack input) plug in the foot pedal you can buy for it for switching through channels, push the ON button, and start cranking out the music! That simple! I love it! And the price is super right. In the context of equipment prices this amp is cheap to keep....inexpensive. You're really going to be surprised how good this little guy sounds. I liked this amp so much I went to Guitar Center and bought his big brother, the VOX Valvetronix VT 100X with 100 watts of power for my larger clubs and concert work. I'm all set.

          Best Uses

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT20X 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

Took me all of 3 minutes to fall in love with this amp. Arrived on a Tuesday, I played an outdoor gig with it Friday night. Very user-friendly, a breeze to haul around compared to all of my other amps. Spans sounds from crunchy growls for any ZZ Top you might want to cover, yet has a wonderful clean chorused ability too, that will get your leads noticed. The only reason I didn't give it five stars, is the line out. It should be a quarter inch jack, not an eighth, and the signal should be exactly what comes out of the amp. The current configuration is missing a part of the signal processing, but it mikes well (extremely well with a shure sm57) so this is not a deal breaker. I think most working musicians would be well pleased with this amplifier.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT20X 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

I'm a beginner learning at home and not at all sure what I want "my" sound to be. I also enjoy listening to everything from rockabilly to blues to indie rock to classic rock to hard rock. Not so interested in jazz guitar, country, or metal. This amp fits my needs perfectly because I can stick to the AC30 with a slap back echo or a little reverb for my general practice but also branch out to try a vast range of styles and sounds. Using the Tone Room software, I can swap effects and amps with the swipe of a finger. I can also see how the modeled songs are created via various combinations of effects, amps, and their settings. Great learning tool. My only complaints so far are mild because there are simple workarounds. I had read that you should turn the gain nob off when switching amps. It does seem prone to jarring changes in volume if you don't do that, but it also might be the character of the amps. There IS a buzzing if I have the volume and gain up at all and I'm not touching the strings. However, it goes away if I have the amp linked to my computer with a USB cable. So, maybe it's reacting to WiFi signal in the room...? Anyway, problem solved since I plan on using Tone Room a lot.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT20X 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

This amp has a nice sound, but it also has an underlying "buzz" that is annoying in small spaces. It had all the effects and sounds, but it had more choices than I needed. Fun to play around with though. The cord/plug is not grounded. I rent and can't vouch for the wiring in the apartment, so that was unsettling for me and the life of the amp. I did end up taking it back.
