Overview

You won't have to dig deep to get great sound out of the VOX Pathfinder 15R Guitar Amp with Reverb. This player-friendly combo packs a ton of top-notch features and killer VOX sound into a package that's affordable and easy to use. It features 15W of power, a single 8" Bulldog speaker, gain boost, tremolo, and spring reverb.

Its distinctive, maroon-colored top panel features a Gain Boost switch plus controls for Volume, Gain, Treble, Bass, Tremolo Speed, and Tremolo Depth. Both the boost and tremolo are footswitchable via an optional VFS2 dual footswitch, offering you even more performance power. (See accessory box on this page.)

In addition to a headphone output that mutes the internal speaker for practice, the rear panel also has a special filtered line out jack and a speaker out. The line out gives you a good sounding signal for recording/live work without having to mic up the amp.

It sports classic VOX cosmetics like basket-weave vinyl, diamond grille cloth, white piping, gold beading, and, of course, chicken head pointer knobs.

This is the 'new and improved' 15 watt VOX Pathfinder now with spring reverb (finally!). The 'clean' tones are bright and chimey. Tweek the Volume and Gain controls to produce terrific, vintage tube-driven overdrive tones. This thing can bark too. Volume is surprisingly loud. The adjustable reverb adds great echo/depth, and the tremolo is terrific if you enjoy that type of effect. (It fun to use occasionally, especially for Nirvana 'Come As You Are'); If you're looking for that great vintage VOX sparkly chime and crunchy, but not brutal, overdrive, this is about the best sounding small solid-state amp out there for under $200. Try one out, let your own ears be the judge. This might be the perfect small practice amp you are looking for. lr** Jan 04,2003

Man this thing is LOUD for 15 amps! I use this amp with my Washburn Washington "J" hollowbody and this thing roars! I get some great tones out of this, and an especially dirty soud if needed ..Not metal dirty per say, but "Pumpkin's (Smashing that is)" dirty, if you will. I use this with my wah pedal and I get some great midrange notes to stand out. Clean, dirty, and funky are just a few of the tones I can gather, and this keeps up with my band! Solid amp for the price, and very versatile!

Comments about Vox Pathfinder V9168R 15w 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Light weight, easy to carry and sounds great. I record and perform live with mine in small to medium venues. The best sounding solid state amp I have ever used. It is very loud and my digi-rp 300 sounds great through it. I love the vibe of this amp.

Comments about Vox Pathfinder V9168R 15w 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

As has been said many times, and many ways, this is an excellent "intimate setting" amp. Very nice tone when used with electric/acoustic stringed instruments. Nice, big, full (not twangy, or fat) sound. It definitely can get loud enough without distorting. Very impressive for an 8" amp.

The gain channel is way too extreme, making it not useable. However, the pre and post gains allow me to dial in all the crunch I need, if I want to. Very good tremolo, and reverb. All I needed to add was a chorus pedal.

It work great with my Lanikai and Luna electric ukes.

I like it. I'm keeping it.

Comments about Vox Pathfinder V9168R 15w 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Amazing tone for a small ss amp with an 8" speaker. Very tube-like. Great clean and distorted sound. When my Pathfinder first arrived, I thought it was overated in the reviews. When I found the time to play with various volume, tone and gain settings, it lived up to its' reputation. This amp sounds very good with my Stratocasters, Telecaster and my Hamer USA Special equiped With P90s. I may buy another Pathfinder and use them in stereo. I would recommend this amp to anyone looking for Vox tone in a home practice amp or for small gigs.

Comments about Vox Pathfinder V9168R 15w 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

My first Pathfinder 15R was made in Korea. I reviewed it and suggested that 5 stars wasn't enough - it was great and became my favorite amp! But I stupidly sold it when I relocated to make the move easier. So I bought another one in late 2012. This one is made in Vietnam. As I turned up the reverb it had a pretty loud "hiss" - very annoying particularly if I was using headphones. Within about 10 minutes of use the hiss got even worse. I sent it back. My replacement amp had the same "hiss" - just not as bad as the first. I kept this one. The amp is still a great small amp if you keep the reverb turned down. It has dandy features, wonderful tone, a great speaker and is powerful. But Vox needs to take a look at the reverb. It isn't a very strong reverb to begin with and that's why you need to turn it up. But the more you crank it up the more background noise you get. This had been my favorite amp of all time but now it falls to third (out of three)...

Comments about Vox Pathfinder V9168R 15w 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

this is the type of product that goes far in creating customer loyalty. for less than the price of a decent distortion pedal, you get a perfect practice amp. great reverb, trem, line out, headphone out, speaker out, footswitch out, very loud, vox chime, can be used at gigs/recording. what i appreciate aside from the quality is they KNOW they could easily charge a considerable amount more than they do yet they refuse to push it up. it's smart business. get you hooked on their sound by offering you something from the dollar menu and you'll come back. a certain big guitar company had the complete opposite business model when I was starting out and now that I can afford them, I'm not interested. Chance at hooking a lifetime customer gone by pricing me out when my tastes were being established. Vox/Fender for life!

Comments about Vox Pathfinder V9168R 15w 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I got this amp new a few years back and I've played almost daily since then. I use it mostly at band rehearsals (we practice at low volume...we're old like that) and take it to gigs as a backup. I recently had to "gig test" it and it really surprised me! Plugged my 2x12 cabinet (8 ohm) into the extension speaker jack on the Pathfinder and had plenty of stage volume. Again, we don't have the loudest stage volume but I still had some headroom to play with if had I needed it.

Through the 2x12 I noticed that the "boost" function was more useable (I have the footswitch) and the reverb sounded a bit better.

Mine has had a pretty hard life and it has the dings and rips to prove it so I feel I've gotten my money's worth and then some!

Comments about Vox Pathfinder V9168R 15w 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've had this amp for at least five years now and I play it more than any other amp I own or have owned during that time. I always use it for band rehearsals (we practice at very low volume...we're old like that) and take to gigs as a back up amp. I actually had to use it at a recent gig when my tube amp head went pffft...I plugged my 2x12 cabinet (8 ohm) into the speaker out jack of the Pathfinder and got a REALLY good sound and it was plenty loud for our stage volume...we would mic up the amps if we were playing in a bigger room or outside anyway. The reverb seemed to sound better with the extension cab but I still didn't use the boost function (used a pedal for more grit).

Hard not to like an amp that does so much for such a low price. Mine looks horrid from riding in trunks and the backs of trucks but that does prove that it is a well built little fella!

Comments about Vox Pathfinder V9168R 15w 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

i love this amp. it is the cleanest sounding amp that i have ever played through. the only down side for me is that the gain is too sharp, but by simply leaving the gain off and useing my hard wire distortion pedal instead, it sound awesome!
i am planninig to add a 2x12 ext. stereo cabinet to make the amp sound bigger.

I bought this as a backup practice amp but lately I've been playing it more than my main rig (blackstar ht1r). Plays clean and high gain nicely. I like the distortion you can get with the boost button. I haven't made much use of the bass/treb controls, but they are there. The tremolo was fun to play with at first, now I usually leave a little dialed in along with some reverb. Overall great amp with simple controls.

I tried the Fender Frontman but ended up sending it back. I bought this amp instead. It has the quality build I was looking for. Tremelo and reverb sound perfect. I've used it for two professional recording projects so far. The reverb is subtle, and the trem has a great feel. I love all the output options. I love this amp.
