Overview

The two-channel design delivers not only the traditional VOX clean and crunch sounds, but also modern high-gain sounds as well. In any music scene, you'll be able to experience serious full-tube sound any time and in any place. The Night Train G2 adds a new 1x12" 15W combo amp to the lineup. Equipped with a Celestion greenback speaker, it delivers uncompromising full-tube sound. It's a distinctive combo amp with the eye-catching "All Tube Legacy" badge that guarantees this unit to be a full-tube amp built in the VOX tradition.

Traditional VOX all-tube sound
VOX's traditional tube sound is alive and well on the Night Train G2 1x12" 15W combo. The class AB design delivers awesome power, with a preamp containing three 12AX7 tubes and a power amp containing two EL38 tubes.

Girth/Bright two-channel design provides a wide range of tonal character
Each model offers up two channels with a differing tonal character: Girth and Bright. The Girth channel has a powerful modern high-gain sound that's unparalleled even among VOX amps. It's also ideal for the guitarist who seeks an even heavier sound. The Bright channel provides VOX's distinctive clean/crunch sounds and also features a Thick mode that bypasses the tone control circuit and boosts the gain to obtain a thicker tone, achieving a rich variety of tonal character. An optional VFS2A foot switch can be used to switch between the two channels with your foot, for convenience during your live performances.

Excellent expandability
For the guitarist who seeks more originality, the Night Train G2 series provides send/return jacks that are a convenient way to connect an external effect unit to your amp. You can easily connect your favorite effect units without impairing the potential of the Night Train G2, dramatically expanding your sound-shaping possibilities. A high-quality reverb has been added to all models, letting you obtain a broad variety of sounds without needing to involve any other equipment.

Comments about Vox NT15C1 Night Train G2 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Black:

I bought this amp to compare it to a Tweed Blues Jr. and an AC10C1. I've had the Blues Jr for a few years, and while I think it's a great sounding amp, especially for its size, I wanted to try some other small amps to see how they compare. So I bought an AC10C1 at a local Guitar Center and the NT15C1 online. I first compared the AC10 to my Blues JR. using my home studio to record some test tracks. The AC10 won with a more upfront sound and that Vox chime that everyone raves about. However, it still sounded a little boxy to my ears and a tad harsh in the highs. So I then compared the AC10 with NT15. The NT15 seems kind of like a mix between a Fender and Vox tonally. The build quality feels much better than the AC10 and on par with the Blues Jr. But what sold me on the NT15 was the sound. It doesn't sound boxy at all to my ears, and has a nice warm, round, sound to it. It's definitely not as chimey as a classic box, but it sounds great and maybe a touch more modern than the other two amps. If you're dying for a classic Vox sound in a small size, the AC10 is probably what you should get. Minus some questionable buld quality and slit boxy sound, it still sounded better than the Blues Jr.

If you're looking for a small amp that sounds like a mix between a fender and Vox, and seems to be well build, I think the NT15 is a great amp. I can't really comment on the gain side of the NT15 (I use pedals for my gain) other than a quick listen. It seemed very modern sounding to me, which didn't impress me much, but some may love it.

One last thing. Hearing the Blues Jr, AC10, and NT15 recorded tracks side by side, I came to the conclusion that the NT15 sounds the warmest and, I know this may be a weird way to describe the recorded tone, but it just sounded more professional than the other two. I wish it had a little more of that classic Vox chime, but it still sounds really good and I'm not hearing any boxiness.

Comments about Vox NT15C1 Night Train G2 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Black:

I was browsing the store in the market for a reasonably priced tube amp. I had a nice little Orange solid state that I purchased to sate my appetite until I could afford a tube amp, and finally the time had come. I looked suspiciously at a few lesser names and played out of them briefly. Nothing knocked my socks off. I was about to move on and try my luck at another store, when this little beauty caught my eye. The aesthetic of this amp is decidedly classic. Rounded edges and subtle trimming provide a warmth to the amp without even needing to flip the switch.

I plugged a Strat into it and took a seat on the stool in front of the amp. I sat there for about twenty minutes seeing what kind of tones I could get from it. I couldn't have been prepared for the sounds I was getting from the amp. From milky blues tones, to over driven classic rock sounds, there is a very versatile feel to the amp. There are a few options to get the sound you are looking for. There are bright and dark saturation settings. Bright gives you the classic vox feel. Dark gives you a nice bluesy edge to the sound. There is a "Thick" switch for heavy overdrive, which has a really crunchy feel. The reverb is a nice addition as well.

I walked out of the store with the floor model that I enjoyed the sound so much. If you are looking for a reasonably priced tube combo, and you enjoy a nice milky sound from your guitar, look no farther. You simply cannot beat the sound, and functionality, of this amp for the price point.

Comments about Vox NT15C1 Night Train G2 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Black:

Purchased this amp to get the tube sound I remember from the "old days" of the late 60's. I already own fender and line 6 solid state amps, but I'm not in love with the tone they provide. This low wattage tube amp solves that problem - I hardly ever use the other amps now! I find no flaws with the Vox, and use several pedals (compressor, wah-wah pedal, etc.) to get the sound I like. You can pay less and get more power with a solid state amp, but try a quality tube amp first. Definitely worth the bucks. Highly recommended.
