Designed with an emphasis on analog, VOX’s MV50 combines classic amplifier design with new and innovative production techniques to produce a miniature amplifier with truly monstrous sound. Boasting an incredible 50 watts of power, this one-pound package serves up serious guitar tone that’s reminiscent of your favorite old tube amps. With speaker and line/headphone outputs, the MV50 is perfect for the stage, at home, or in the studio for direct recording.

The MV50 is equipped an all-analog pre-amp circuit that features Nutube, a revolutionary new vacuum tube that produces authentic tube tone at a fraction of the size. By taking advantage of this incredible new technology, VOX’s engineers were able to design a true, miniature tube amplifier. Beyond the inclusion of Nutube, the pre-amp circuit in the MV50 features a staggering number of analog components that effectively reproduce the dynamic character of a traditional tube amp. Paired with this innovative pre-amp circuit is a reliable and efficient Class D power amp that has been specifically designed for the MV50. From warm, natural cleans to dynamic overdrives, this power amp has been engineered to respond to the nuances of your guitar and, of course, your technique.

Though designed with the compact BC108 in mind, the MV50 is a perfect match for nearly any speaker cabinet. The EQ switch on the back of the amplifier features two distinct settings, FLAT and DEEP. When connected to a small cabinet, such as the BC108, setting the amplifier to the DEEP mode will emphasize the rich low-frequency range and prevent the high frequencies from becoming too pronounced. When connected to a larger, more conventional speaker cabinet, setting the amplifier to the FLAT mode will allow you to take full advantage of the characteristics of the speaker cabinet, without emphasizing or reducing any frequency range.

When it comes time to practice or record, the MV50’s line/headphone out can be directly to a mixer, audio interface, or your favorite pair of headphones. VOX’s design team consulted with highly experienced recording engineers and used only the finest microphones and vintage pre-amps to design the cabinet simulation circuit in the MV50. This cleverly designed circuit allows you to record or practice with serious studio sound anywhere or anytime.

Comments about Vox MV50 50W Clean Guitar Amp Head:

I was amazed at the sound and versatility of this Vox amplifier. I have been playing guitar since 1971 and have had the gambit of amps and cabinets thru the years. I was intriqued by the claims I saw about these little amps in the last Guitar Player magazine so I thought I'd try one out and see for myself. It is really small, I was a little afraid it looked like a toy. But that was a wrong first impression. I wanted to get the Clean version so I could run pedals thru it and I was amazed at how well it all sounds. And don't let the size fool you can get loud.
I've run it thru a Peavey 4-10 cabinet and it sounds great, I've run it thru a 2-12 Yamaha cabinet and it sounds better. I even ran it directly thru a Peavey stage monitor with 2-15s and a driver horn. I like that it can feed 4, 8 or 16 ohms. So it is very usable with just about any cabinet you run it thru... I am running 7 pedals in front of it and it sounds great with little noise. in this order, polytune tuner, Morley optical volume pedal, cry baby wah, Ibanez tube screamer, Boss cs-1 compressor/sustainer, Exotic EP booster and last Boss CE-3 chorus pedal.
Thought I'd need a noise gate but didn't. huh? great. I got a Line 6 combo, a Fender Mustang III combo and a Peavey XXX head to use but right now I'm playing everything thru this little Vox....pretty amazing technology. And the the magazine review it said it would retail at $279 and was surprised it hit the street at $199. Probably will have to explore getting the AC or Rock version, but really maybe not if I can add a distortion pedal in the chain and it sounds good.

Comments about Vox MV50 50W Clean Guitar Amp Head:

Originally, I had bought this for a "glass" tube clean sound for my bedroom so I wouldn't have to use a giant high end amp. Disappointingly, I had a line 6 $100 amp that sounded cleaner than the vox before EQ. Due to a lack of mid control, i had to use an EQ pedal to get the tone i wanted out of it.

What's cool is that it does have that lively vox/tube tone and does overdrive at max volume while keeping the guitar's natural tone.
