I just bought this guy from my local Guitar Center and wanted to let folks know that this is one fun little amp. It features some nice amp models and effects. Yeah, it's limited, but it's perfect for home practice or song writing. I plugged my old Rickenbacker 350 into it and got instant gratification from the tones this thing puts out. And, it's a lot louder than I expected it to be considering it's size. I only have a couple of complaints about it. First, I wish Vox had left out the line input and and added more tone control instead. Second, I wish the tuner was a full-on tuner, rather than just sensing the pitch "E" only. Still, I would recommend this amp to anyone looking for an easy to use and enjoyable practice amp.

A Few Points: 1) The amp models on this unit sound identical to those of the DA5. If you like the way the DA5 sounds, you will like this amp. I thought the DA5 sounded horrible, and this amp does as well. 2) All amp models except for the line in ("LINE" model) have an very audible and intolerable sounding hiss, even when the Gain and Master are at zero, and this hiss only becomes progressively louder as you increase the gain. 3) The amp models sound tinny and flat, and more importantly, they do not "feel" good to play on. 4) As other reviews have stated, the effects are pretty good. 5) In my opinion, either the Roland Micro Cube, Mobile Cube, or especially the Fender Mustang Mini would make a MUCH better practice amp.

Great do it all practice amp

By Mike Baggett

from Mount Olive, Al.

Comments about Vox MINI3 3W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is loud and gives you any sound you might want in a small amp. It has clean cleans and rank power chords as distorted and crunchy as you want. The effects are good and the reverbs. It can handle your mic, drum machine and guitar for reasonable volumes and that alone sold me. I had a roland small amp that promised to do it all but the speakers would cuts out with all the instruments plugged in. The Vox mini3 stands up strong where you can hear you drums, guitar and voice. It does have it limits in that it is only 3 watts, but what a loud 3 watts. If you need a practice amp, I'm sold on this one.

Good Practice Amp

By Clarence Lott

from DeSoto, Texas

Comments about Vox MINI3 3W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp about a week ago. I planned to use if for practice while I travel for my job, however, since I bought it I have used it at home more than I expected. It has a great sound for a little amp. I like the input for an MP3 player (or laptop). It is so small and light it will fit in a suitcase. The amp models are good as long as you keep the volume at a reasonable setting. I wish it had a line out. I am pleased with the amp, I have not yet installed batteries so I can not comment on the quality using batteries. I think the amp is a good value for my use.

Great first amp or travel practice amp

By Joel Wrangle

from Chicago,IL

Comments about Vox MINI3 3W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

I like VOX amps and was going to buy a Roland portable amp but felt I should try this out before I pulled the trigger. Well I'm glad that I did because this amp sounds fantastic. It gives very authentic reproductions clean and the host of effects are icing on the cake. There are also several inputs for a mic or other audio devices so this could be a little PA system as well. The most important thing though is that it reproduce and amplify a sound cleanly and for its size its a real champ. Give it a try and you'll love it too.

The Lunch Vox

By DION DUNCAN

from Vallejo, Ca

Comments about Vox MINI3 3W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

Ok... were to start. I own a valvetronic amp that I love. Can't be beat for all the things it can do. But for guitar lessons and guitar groups that I am involed with. I just don't want to carry my valvetronic unless I'm getting payed for a gig or maybe some place were sound matters. So I see this thing in the GC store try it and think for a bill lets take this home. I've owned mine for six months now. And I've dropped it more than I should, and I've got the GC innsurance on it. But It keeps working! Now its not as good sounding as my valvetronic. But for something not bigger than my lunch box, THE LUNCH VOX is a hit. Everyone in my guitar group wanted one! Everyone love the sound. The Size. The eazy ajustment. And did I mention "THE BATTERY POWER! You Got to love this little thing. Four people in my guitar group ran out and bought the lunch vox. Now I think VOX should change the name from the mini to THE LUNCH VOX. That's what we call it. Remember you hear it here first.

WOW! This is a great great amp

By Chuck

from Concord, CA

Comments about Vox MINI3 3W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

Got it last night. First the quality is outstanding. Everything seems sturdy and well made. Plugged in the included A/C adapter, Plugged in my BB King Lucille... Amp Modeling was crazy.. the different amp models are not subtle adjustments.. They are very different distinct sounds. The effects are usable although only one at a time. The amp is certainly loud enough for practice and perfect for bedroom / apt levels. One thing thats not mentioned is that the back panel can be removed or closed depending on what you like..so you can use it open backed or closed...opens up totally different sounds. I love it. I Have a Fender G-Dec30 and this little thing sounds MUCH better and is far easier to adjust.

Comments about Vox MINI3 3W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

3w portable amp...surprisingly good sound for a teeny amp. Clear, unless you boost up the volume too high..will try it at an outdoor event soon...might even read the manual...lots of tricky features...

Good bargain modelling amp

By Adeola D

from MD

Comments about Vox MINI3 3W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

For the price, it is not a bad amp at all!!! Loud enough to disturb your neighbors. A versatile budget amp with decent variety of amp models which can be used for practicing various genres and guitar styles. Distortion sounds good and can be applied to most amp models using the gain knob. The quality of the amp models is, not perfect, some sound better than others, but are generally good enough for practice or leisure playing. I was most impressed with the effects, which are well programmed and can easily be fine tuned. I have never used batteries, so I can't tell for how many hours it runs on batteries.

Great little amp

By Justin Naida

from Bolingbrook, Illinois

Comments about Vox MINI3 3W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

Well I have only had the amp for two days now but I can say without a doubt that I love it. It is exactly what I was hoping for and more. I wanted an amplifier that could have many different tonal qualities for sounds that ranged from clean to dirty. I wasn't expecting any real metal sound out of it but then again I have never owned anything by VOX so I did not know what they really sounded like. I have to say that I am very happy with it. There are so many sounds that you can make with this little thing, including metal. I really do not think that any review I give will be adequate enough to describe how good this amplifier is, mainly because I do not possess the necessary descriptive vocabulary to do so. All I can say is that I really cannot wait until I have enough money to add another VOX amplifier to my collection. (Also on a side note, I don't know about anyone else but for me this amplifier is WAAAAAAAAAY better than the Line 6 Micro Spider. It is true that the Line 6 has the INSANE channel setting going for it but then again all I need to do is set the MINI3 to CALI METAL and plug in the Metal Zone pedal and I get pretty much the same thing)

fun.fun.fun

By Craig Riesen

from Celina, OH

Comments about Vox MINI3 3W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

I ordered this amp to take to a deer hunting cabin that has no power. My son and I took a Strat and an Ovation and had a blast jamming w/ the MINI 3. It has MANY uesful clean and dirty tones for rock and blues and is quite pleasant sounding. We play some Stones and this amp can be great for over-driven slide sounds with plenty of sustain, I mean really great. Record or gig w/ it? No..but it's fun to use as a portable and is plenty loud and surprisingly clean even at high volumes. We are taking it to a Christmas sing-along and mixing a little electric in with the acoustics. I've never had an headphone amp and now I can sit in my TV chair and play around and not bother the wife. Comes with an AC cord and battery life is at least 8 hours, thats all I know right now, haven't tried any longer. I would buy another as it is much more than I expected. This is a very well-built unit and a solid hit.
