I just bought this guy from my local Guitar Center and wanted to let folks know that this is one fun little amp. It features some nice amp models and effects. Yeah, it's limited, but it's perfect for home practice or song writing. I plugged my old Rickenbacker 350 into it and got instant gratification from the tones this thing puts out. And, it's a lot louder than I expected it to be considering it's size. I only have a couple of complaints about it. First, I wish Vox had left out the line input and and added more tone control instead. Second, I wish the tuner was a full-on tuner, rather than just sensing the pitch "E" only. Still, I would recommend this amp to anyone looking for an easy to use and enjoyable practice amp.

A Few Points: 1) The amp models on this unit sound identical to those of the DA5. If you like the way the DA5 sounds, you will like this amp. I thought the DA5 sounded horrible, and this amp does as well. 2) All amp models except for the line in ("LINE" model) have an very audible and intolerable sounding hiss, even when the Gain and Master are at zero, and this hiss only becomes progressively louder as you increase the gain. 3) The amp models sound tinny and flat, and more importantly, they do not "feel" good to play on. 4) As other reviews have stated, the effects are pretty good. 5) In my opinion, either the Roland Micro Cube, Mobile Cube, or especially the Fender Mustang Mini would make a MUCH better practice amp.

Best practice at low volume

By Mat Trickel

from Raleigh

If you want a great practice amp or jamming with the stereo. This amp has a wide range of great sounds. Parents if you are looking for an amp for your kids this will make them sound like Rock Gods without ear bleeding volumes. Not to mention it runs on batteries and they can easily take it outside. Overall the best practice amp for learning new songs and getting desirable tones without waking the neighbors.

VOX MINI 3 - Sweet And Handy With A Kick!

By Richard Auvil

from Blairsville, Pennsylvania

The Ivory color has a classic look and compliments my favorite instrument! The cost was more than fair due to a great Guitar Center discount! The headphone feature yields a quality, clean, full sound. Now I can woodshed for hours in comfort on my solid body while my family is in the next room. My playing time has been greatly extended! The amp models provide a diverse sound spectrum and each can be tailored using various combinations of the gain, tone, and master volume. My favorite model is the UK '70's! Quality effects and delay/reverb modules allow simulation to fit just about any venue. I use a desktop stand with an on-axis SM58 to mic this little baby through the PA system; the sound is amazing! My next experiment is to run headphone out to the board. "AUX IN" is a great feature for players and teachers; jam with a band whenever you like! You can even sing along, since the MINI 3 has a separate microphone channel. This little amp looks great and sounds sweet or sassy (your choice) with plenty of kick for its size! The battery life is exactly as advertised, and it's light as a feather. I've used it heavy (indoors and out) for about three weeks and I'm glad I bought it!

Small But Mighty

By Maurine Waun

from Pittsburgh, PA

This is a great little amp....small and light with a bigger sound than you might expect. I haven't experimented with all the special effects yet, but they sure look like fun! I'm very pleased. One of the features that attracted me to this amp is that it can operate on batteries. How great is that! No more looking all around the room for an outlet when playing out somewhere.

Awesome Practice Amp!

By Rob Smelik

from Fairfax, VA

When I first saw this thing a has to say I was a bit skeptical of the tone it would produce simply because the unit is so incredibly small (like fit in a carry on bag small) but because I know VOX makes a quality product I was still intrigued. I have a young boy and after he goes to bed I sometimes like to practice guitar but I can't exactly fire up the full size amp without waking up the neighbors kids. I was looking for something that still sounded good even at low volume levels. This amp was the perfect solution for me. It creates everything from incredibly crisp clean tones to heavy high gain distortion, with the turn of a single knob. And if you want a bit more presence it has a full range of effects from compression and chorus to reverb and tape echo. If your looking for a powerhouse practice amp this is not the one for you but if you are looking for an amp that's small, sounds great, is highly versatile and you can use in just about any room of the house (as long as you don't live in an auditorium) you should take a look at this one. Better yet try it out... You won't regret it. I have just started putting it through the paces so I am not sure what the extended battery life is like and I guess it would depend on the volume levels you have it set to. I recommend picking up a bunch of AA rechargeable batteries but if you don't want to go the battery route it does come with an AC plug. Neither power source seem to affect the tone at all. I almost forgot to mention that the amp feels substantial and well made despite it's size. All in all this amp was everything I was expecting and then some.

I like this little amp!

By Londell Jones

from Dallas,Texas

Once I finally decided to get back into playing the guitar, I had to decide on an axe, then an amp. Well, the axe wasn't a problem, but deciding on an amp became quite a task. The vox mini 3 is well worth the price. The pre-sets for the amp needs some getting used to (probably since I haven't picked up a guitar since I was 19), but once you get the feel for them, and the adjustments you can make to them, it's all on and poppin'.If you're looking for a nice little practice amp, this one is well worth looking into.

so many options to choose from

By Michael Kelly

from Weatogue CT

I heard a Fender Mustang Mini and really liked the sound. I came home and did my homework, looking at the fender, the Vox mini 3 and the MicroCube and finally in the same price range, the Pignose Hog20. Sound being so subjective, and so many of these being so nice, I ended up buying the Vox as I own a AC15C2 and liked the Vox sound, but that is a tube amp and I know this cant compare. I finally decided that I own a camera with many extra sets of rechargeable AA batteries and that the Vox was one of the few that did not want C batteries and try to find them in rechargeable !!! The Hog20 has way more watts, but its not going to be that much louder then the Vox. The only way you can really tell is to go and listen, but if I liked the Fender more, I did not like the C batteries so it makes a difference in what you want to spend on batteries. I like the sound of my VOX mini and am very happy with the choice I finally made. Good luck to you in your choice too !!

Light, tone great, perfect amp for busking!

By Sharon Porter

from La Grande. Oregon

I busked for the first time as a solo act today for three hours on the city street. I used the VOX for the first time and it was perfect for me. I am a singer and I play ukulele to accompany myself. The vocal sound was fat and the tone was nicely balanced. The uke was a bit too soft so I backed away from the mike to sing and that helped. I am going to take a uke with on-board tone and volume controls to get a better balance as there is not way to adjust the two channels independently. What a great little amp! It was loud enough, not even pushed that high, to perform over street noise. There was no hiss and the amp stayed steady the whole time. I had the luxury of having AC power at this spot on the street so did not get to try the batteries. I am thrilled with the weight and the effects. I did not use the effects but appreciate having them. When I get more time to monkey with them, I am sure I wil find interesting settings! Love it! Oh, I used it with my Kala U-Bass to accompany the ukulele orchestra the other night and it was amazingly full for that bass. I was happily shocked.

The Lunch Vox

By DION DUNCAN

from Vallejo, Ca

Ok... were to start. I own a valvetronic amp that I love. Can't be beat for all the things it can do. But for guitar lessons and guitar groups that I am involed with. I just don't want to carry my valvetronic unless I'm getting payed for a gig or maybe some place were sound matters. So I see this thing in the GC store try it and think for a bill lets take this home. I've owned mine for six months now. And I've dropped it more than I should, and I've got the GC innsurance on it. But It keeps working! Now its not as good sounding as my valvetronic. But for something not bigger than my lunch box, THE LUNCH VOX is a hit. Everyone in my guitar group wanted one! Everyone love the sound. The Size. The eazy ajustment. And did I mention "THE BATTERY POWER! You Got to love this little thing. Four people in my guitar group ran out and bought the lunch vox. Now I think VOX should change the name from the mini to THE LUNCH VOX. That's what we call it. Remember you hear it here first.

fun.fun.fun

By Craig Riesen

from Celina, OH

I ordered this amp to take to a deer hunting cabin that has no power. My son and I took a Strat and an Ovation and had a blast jamming w/ the MINI 3. It has MANY uesful clean and dirty tones for rock and blues and is quite pleasant sounding. We play some Stones and this amp can be great for over-driven slide sounds with plenty of sustain, I mean really great. Record or gig w/ it? No..but it's fun to use as a portable and is plenty loud and surprisingly clean even at high volumes. We are taking it to a Christmas sing-along and mixing a little electric in with the acoustics. I've never had an headphone amp and now I can sit in my TV chair and play around and not bother the wife. Comes with an AC cord and battery life is at least 8 hours, thats all I know right now, haven't tried any longer. I would buy another as it is much more than I expected. This is a very well-built unit and a solid hit.
