Excellent buy

By parrer

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this VOX DA5 5W amp for my son. He's been playing for a couple of years now and this amp was a nice step up from the starter amps that he has played with at a great price. Before this amp he played with a Behringer 15W, and Crate GX15-R. This amp blows them away. It has many different sounds that he likes to experiment with. Since it is small, it is so much easier for him to carry it around. I highly recommend checking it out. It seems like this would be a great amp at any experience level just practicing at home.

The little amp that could.

By monkeyman3dee

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

I was looking for a micro amp that had great effects, great quality, and most importantly great tone. At first i was going to buy the Roland Micro, but i heard VOX had a much better micro with more effects. So i headed over to GuitarCenter and tried it out, and fell in love with it instantly. The auto wah is very dynamic and you can get real cool sounds out of it, and as for the rest of the effects, they are phenomenal considering it is a small 5 watt micro amp. All in all, i was pleasantly surprised at the volume this amp could muster and still retain it's tonal qualities, for the guitarist on the go, this is a great buy.

Great portable/practice amp

By SeattleStreetBusker

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

When I shopped for a portable amp,I chose this over other brands or models for a few reasons: Switchable wattage allows you to choose battery life as well as getting more overdrive/distortion with less volume. The features on-board are as many or more than other portable amps, and the price is competitive. I've used it for harmonica and guitar amplification, and can't find a bad thing to say about it in the context of a practice or portable amp that takes a 1/4" jack. I gave it a notch down in features and overall for the slightly heavier weight than some other portable amps, and the effects which are combined as pairs, vs. individual control of each effect. Still plenty of choices and capability for the money and design.

Wow - this amp ROCKS!

By cthomas

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

I recently bought a Line 6 Spider III 75, and love it so much my 12 year old combo had to go. But I did need a small amp for when friends come over, etc. I stopped in at GC thinking I would be getting a Roland Cube (which sounded great, BTW). I played the Cube for awhile, then saw the Vox and decided to at least try it. I played a Squier strat through it (which my friends play) and it sounded fantastic. The crunch sound completely sold me. The compressed clean sound is outstanding. I bought it, then took it home and plugged in my Les Paul and my 15 year old EMG loaded Strat. Talk about blown away. I couldn't believe how much tone I could get. The clean channels and the crunch sound like a million dollars with my Strat. With the LP, the Hi-gain channels rock. Amazing sound for such a little speaker. Also, the effects are really very good. I love the auto-wah (which my Line 6 had it). Controlling the effects is pretty complex. Makes Line 6 look simple (which is saying something). I noted earlier I played through the Cube, but then bought the Vox. I think the Cube looked more durable, and sounded very good, but the Vox tones blew the Cube away. Very happy with this purchase. Can't wait until my friends try it.

Can't beat this amp for the price

By MozMarr

from Cambridge, MA

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

I had almost bought the Roland micro cube but couldn't resist the Vox brand. I can't believe the tones that come out of this little gem. The small footprint, headphone output and selectable wattage makes this the perfect bedroom amp. A footswitch would be nice for the effects, but the great range of tones is the killer feature on the DA5.

Good amp

By Alan

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

This is a very good amp. Better than I thought. The effects are good, so are the amp models. I found some good use of the delay and reverb because they sound cool. If you want to get an amplifier but want cool amp/effect features, get this amp! I highly recommend this to anyone. This is great for portability. Just excellent quality for an amplifier from VOX.

pretty amazing...

By A.Gallegos

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

I have had alot of different amps over the years, (we all have right), and my brother -in-law picked this amp up at guitar center one day, brought it home and ran it through a Carvin 100 watt head, and through his Randall 4/12 cabinet and blew me away. Not only dos it kick you know what by itself, but you can easily patch it through other things like he did and be the envy of your neihborhood. You lie it flat like he picture shows and it acts as a effects pedal, you with me? I completely syopped playing my Marshall, as a matter of fact, sold it 2 days later... buy it you wil be surprised!!

By guitarwaytoheaven26

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

When i first took it out of the box and plugged it in i wasn't expecting much just because of the size. Big mistake i turned it to overdrive then all the way up to 10. It blew my ears away! i had no clue that it was going to be super loud. Also it has cool effects. The tone on it is outstanding and the whole amp is a steal at that price.

A very good practice amp

By Ryan

from st. louis

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp has very good sound. I have had a Peavy bandit 66 for a while, and this thing kicks it's butt. It has a great clean channel with no hum at all, unlike my bandit. It has built in effects that sound great and includes delay, chorus, wah, etc. The distortion is pretty good, although there is a slight hum. (I really shouldn't complain about that since i used to play with a bandit.) Overall this is a great amp for practicing and jamming

This little giant is difficult to believe...

By Ted

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

I have owned this amp for several years. It is STILL surreal to plug into this tiny little battery powered amplifier and hear all of the big rich tone coming out of it. The build quality, the sound and the portability make this my single favoritest amplifier of all time. No, I am not kidding. I have owned many of the classic (and wonderful) 50 and 100 watt tube combos, but NONE of them can be tossed behind the driver's seat with one hand for a spontaneous road trip. If you are looking for TRUE portability and delightful acoustic/electric amplification, this is the one.

Convenient Affordable Versatile Tone

By Alec Steinfeld

from Houston, TX

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

This is one of the greatest investments in my guitar related inventory. This thing is small and lightweight so its super portable. Not to mention it sounds great. You can get almost any tone you want out of it. Its very simple and easy to dial anything you want in with a leveling knob for effects and (the best feature) a tap tempo for the effects which includes a solid delay. Only negative is the speakers a little weak, so I sometimes direct out into a another amps cab. Overall this thing is great. I actually use it sometimes to play with the band Im in. Yes its loud enough for that. Anything you would ever want out of a cheap solid state practice amp. I love this thing.

Wow!

By Mike Worthy

from North Little Rock, Arkansas

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

If you are in the market for a practice amp, you can NOT beat the VOX. The features are simply incredible along with the craftsmanship and price point. Trust me, I've compared them all! For over 25 years, I played through a large half stack or combo. My playing has suffered due to lack of practice. Who wants to lug a combo amp around with effects? Please note, you will NOT be using the amp for live gigs, practice only. This is the perfect size for noodling around watching tv or sitting on the couch. The multiple input lets me play along with my MP3 player. And the tones are amazing. I can go from Beatles "Paperback Writer" to Van Halen "Cathedral" in 2 seconds. From Pink Floyd to Ozzy in mere moments. It's that versatile. I do suggest the classic version due to its vintage look. When you think VOX, you think classic, not metal grill. You will not be disappointed in this amp! Quit reading the reviews and buy this amp!

Little wonder

By jay vinton

from Honolulu, Hawaii

Comments about Vox DA5 5W 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amp:

Ok, here's a different take, many reviewers have just bought the amp and are just getting used to it's abilities. Of course they are going to review well, it's their money. I have had a VOX DA-5 in classic livery, for almost 4 yrs. with not a hitch, hiccup, or issue in all that time. It get's played hours and hours more than my big Fender or larger Vox amps. In that time, I've probably used up maybe a couple dozen batteries, and thats outstanding for an amp that is primarily battery driven and mains when your bats finally give it up. I think I have had it mains powered maybe twice. I don't abuse my gear, never have, and this is no exception, but I don't baby it either, it's been to the beach, it's been to lanai's all over Oahu for jams and parties, and still sounds and looks fantastic. A nice feature that is probably unintended is that an acoustic guitar sounds great through it, and an acoustic electric ukulele sounds fantastic through it. As an Hawaiian boy, I can't recommend this little amp enough to ukulele players. Yet, my McCarty litterally rages through it.. To me that is the mark of a good product, that it lasts under normal and not so normal conditions, continues to operate correctly, and continues to give pleasure to the player long after the glow has worn off. For the price, there isn't a better modeler in it's size range. It's durablity is outstanding and I would replace it immediately if something were to happen to it. The construction is unfortunately simple particle board, but for 139 bucks you are not going to get 6 ply birch, doved corners and a real wood cabinet, but it does serve, is well protected on the corners, and maintains it's looks and sounds with no issue. I love the little thing.
