Overview

Power Sharing
The Vox AC30C2X amp makes use of 3 x 12AX7 preamp tubes and 4 x EL84 tubes to deliver 30 watts of power. The AC30C2X tube amp uses 2 - 12" Celestion Alnico Blues, and includes a switchable 8/16 ohm output jack for powering an external speaker cabinet when you need to speak with a little more authority; using this jack will mute the internal speakers. Additionally, a second extension speaker jack allows you to run an extra 16-ohm cabinet along with the internal speakers for a fuller sound.

An Evolution in Tone
This Vox amp offers 2 channels: Normal and Top Boost. Each channel is equipped with its own Volume control, and the Top Boost channel offers highly interactive Treble and Bass tone controls. This powerful channel pairing provides an abundance of tone-crafting control, letting you dial in a classic sound that's all your own.

Both channels of the Vox Custom AC30C2X tube amp rely on the Tone Cut and Volume controls in the Master section. The Tone Cut control operates in the power stage rather than the preamp stage, allowing an additional degree of tone shaping. The Master Volume control works in conjunction with the individual volumes of each channel to create just the right degree of gain staging. By balancing the individual and Master volumes, the Vox Custom guitar amplifier can deliver everything from a clean Vox "chimey" sound to a powerful overdriven tone.

Sound in Motion
You can sweeten the sound of your Custom amplifier using the Vox Classic Tremolo effect. Both the speed and the depth are adjustable, allowing you to generate just the sound you want. A warm Spring Reverb is also included on all Custom tube amp, adding spaciousness to the sound. The AC30C2X also includes an additional tone control in the Reverb section. All Custom Series amps can use the optional Vox footswitch, allowing you to turn the Reverb and Tremolo effects on and off as you continue to play. The AC30C2 provides an effects loop for incorporating your favorite effects into your sound. True "Bypass" switching takes the entire effect loop out of the circuit.

I have owned vox amps off and on for 40 years now. I've owned Sunn,Fender, custom,& many Marshalls, but I always come back home to VOX. This AC 30 W/alnico blues is the tone and power I have been searching for. It works well with pedals and the clean is to die for. I use a 808 tube screamer for dist. and I love the sound I get. I play a lot of slide, blues, Allman Bro.type music and rock, and have no problems getting the right sound I need. I patch the two channels together for sound options I've never had before, it rocks! I own 4 Vox amps and gig with 3 of them, but the AC 30 is the best amp I have ever owned, and I've been playing for 48 years and have owned alot of amps. I play a SG W/P90s & a 62 Strat and they both sound great in this amp.

I have numerous tube amps including several newer Vox and Vintage Fenders. With this group of amps to use for comparison I find that the AC30C2X is a good but not great amp. The speakers are the highlight of this amp. The Celestion Alnico Blues are fantastic speakers that deliver a very bright chime when played clean and deliver a ton of grit when the amp is pushed. This amp has the electronics built on a printed circuit board. This is ok and doesn't really have a notable impact on sound but I've found that PCB's don't hold up as well as point to point wired amps. They are also virtually impossible to repair, which I think is a serious drawback. This amp has an incredible diversity of sounds and if one takes the time to work with it you can certainly find the sound your looking for. For me I had to change out some tubes to get there though. The amp comes with Sovetek tubes which I think sound harsh and brittle in this amp. I changed out the EL 84's with a combo of old RCA, Sylvania, and GE tubes and found that the amp opened up and sounded much better. All and all I think this is a good amp for a working musician, it's way to loud for small homes or apartments. It's great for clubs though. It's fairly durable but the circuit board is a weak point. Remember though almost any commercial amp on the market these days also use PCB's. At the price point of this amp I think it's hard to beat. Spend the extra bucks to get this version of the AC30 rather than the one without the Celestion Blues.

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2X 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I've been playing guitar for 30 years. Styles include Rock & Blues. I love Marshalls and have also used a Fender Super Reverb. I've tried Friedmans, love the sound of the BE100 but not the price. This Vox AC302X ("X" means Alnico Blue vs. Greenback Celestions) is awesome - fuller, punchier, warmer & clearer (even with a disortion pedal) than my Marshall DSL. I've jumped the Normal & Top Boost but prefer the Top Boost alone. It takes pedals very well just as the Marshall does (the Fender not as well). Price to value is excellent, highly recommend it.

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2X 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

well it all comes down to personal preference and playing style, i curently play in a band that plays everything from 90's grunge and alternative to classic rock and blues and it does them all very well, i can't see how anyone could not fall in love with this amp. it's capable of many different tones from sparkling cleans to beautiful natural over drive that can be dialed in at just about any volume and can also be pretty well controlled by you guitars volume. over all this amp has given new life to my playing and is very inspiring. at the price or any price really i don't know how you can beat it. try one out for your self.

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2X 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I typically don't write reviews, but this amp was so fantastic that I couldn't NOT shout out from a mountain top/news broadcast as to how pleased I am. I got the item "used", but when I opened the less than stellar box, the amp was brand new. It looked as though whoever bought it before me couldn't get over how horrible the box looked. Some people are picky I guess. Anyway, I plugged it in, let the tubes warm up a bit, and instantly fell in love with the sound when I started playing. The amount of warmth and clarity is unbelievable. I've heard/read about how good the Alnico Blues are, and no one is mistaken. These speakers are fantastic.

Would definitely recommend this amp to a musician looking for a warm, crisp, tone-laden sound. It melts like butter on a pile of flapjacks. Really.

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2X 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This is my second Vox box. I have a AC30VR for a backup if I blow this one on stage. Roast the crowd with this pleasing tube warmth, way more than just British invasion! This is a great box with all three of my pedal boards, GT-3, GT-100, and a boutique array I built with premium stomps. All the volume, plus drive external 16 Ohms. Use lifting this 75-pounder to build your arms up and show your guns on stage!

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2X 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Great amp. Enough said (Just Kidding!). I love this amp because the sound is amazingly simple yet can be complex with enough tinkering. This is what the professionals use for recording and concerts and for great reason. I have had Fender, Mesa Boogie, and Orange amps that are not even close to how reliable this amp has been. Don't buy it before you play though because its not for everyone. While you can get great tones for anything in between jazz and classic rock...metalheads should stay away. This is for cleans and a bit of dirt if needed. The knobs are very simple and easy to use aka it doesn't require a lot to get a great sound/tone.

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2X 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I was just aghast the first time I turned the volume up over halfway and hit a power chord, the paper Celestion tag on the handle was just jumping all over the place, this thing is powerful people! I paid extra for the alnico blue speakers and they sound great although I hear they do break in and sound even better with a little play time. So far I just love this amp! I almost sent it back for an AC15 because it is so loud but I found I could nut the volume for crunch and roll off the master volume and end up with superb tone at a low volume for practice. the only thing that is a bummer is the weight, this thing is a beast and now I know why it has 3 handles. very nice amp, I will defitely be keeping this one. finding the right amplifier is such a personal journey, and one that is over for me.

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2X 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Overall, I'll be keeping this and probably hand it down when my time is up. The only minus I have about this amp is ITS HEAVY!!! Get either a roadie with a good back or a cart.
Great right out of the box, but I modified mine with a Celestion Greenback speaker and some vintage British tubes. I use Stratocasters and an Es335. I will cut heads with ANY Marshall!
Seems very well made.I recall the new ones in the '60's were pretty sloppy.
Twice as inexpensive as the Bluesbreaker PLUS reverb!

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2X 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp sounds awesome. I have owned it for 3 years and it gets great, timeless classic rock tones with my strat. It is very loud for 30w yet it doesn't need to be played at ear-splitting volumes to provide great tube distortion and sustain. You really don't need a distortion pedal, but I sometimes use a Tube Screamer and/or Cry Baby Wah when we play SRV, U2, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Hendrix, etc. Before you buy, listen to what this amp can do.
