Overview

Power Sharing
The Vox AC30C2 amp makes use of 3 x 12AX7 preamp tubes and use 4 x EL84 tubes to deliver 30W of power. It uses 2 - 12" Celestion G12M Greenback speakers, and includes a switchable 8/16 ohm output jack for powering an external speaker cabinet when you need to speak with a little more authority; using this jack will mute the internal speakers. Additionally, the 30W guitar amp's 2nd extension speaker jack allows you to run an extra 16-ohm cabinet along with the internal speakers for a fuller sound.

An Evolution in Tone
This Vox amp offers two channels: Normal and Top-Boost. Each channel is equipped with its own Volume control, and the Top Boost channel offers highly interactive Treble and Bass tone controls. This powerful channel pairing provides an abundance of tone-crafting control, letting you dial in a classic sound that is all your own.

Both channels on this Vox tube amplifier rely on the Tone Cut and Volume controls in the Master section. The Tone Cut control operates in the power stage rather than the preamp stage, allowing an additional degree of tone shaping. The Master Volume control works in conjunction with the individual volumes of each channel to create just the right degree of gain staging. By balancing the individual and Master volumes, the Vox Custom amplifier can deliver everything from a clean Vox "chimey" sound to a powerful overdriven tone.

Sound in Motion
Sweeten the sound of your Custom Vox amplifier using its classic tremolo effect. Both the speed and the depth are adjustable, allowing you to generate just the sound you want. A warm Spring Reverb is also included on all Vox Custom guitar amps, adding spaciousness to the sound. The AC30C2 also includes an additional tone control in the Reverb section. The Vox Customer AC30C2 tube amp and all Vox Custom amps can use the optional Vox footswitch, allowing you to turn the Reverb and Tremolo effects on and off as you continue to play. The Vox Custom AC30C2 provides an effects loop for incorporating your favorite effects into your sound. True "Bypass" switching takes the entire effect loop out of the circuit.

I purchased this amp several weeks ago and have had a chance to put it thru its paces. First off, this amp is LOUD! It is probably not your best choice for bedroom level playing - although it includes a master volume which makes that somewhat doable. The tone and pick dynamics of this all tube amp are very impressive. What really blows me away is how good my analog delay, chorus, phase, flange, effects sound thru the included effects loop. I've never had another amp with this feature but I tell you what - my DMM delay thru this amp sounds absolutely fantastic. Great amp.

Disappointed

I thought it would be much louder - I played a show with the volume maxed out and could hardly hear myself over the rest of the band.

An upgrade from the CC model

By Jeremy Schuff

from Sacramento, CA

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

The newly released AC30 Custom is really a great step up from the Custom Classic series. It has the great Vox chime that everyone is looking for, that immaculate tone when driving the Top Boost channel. I think it takes pedals better than the CC series, just cleaner. The one drawback for me is the reverb -- just dirty and decays too long. So just keep your reverb level low or get a pedal and insert it in the efffects loop. Definitely enough power to play good size shows!

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

My friend bought this amp last year and I have had several nights to bring my Schecter Tempest Classic over to shake the walls, and that is just what you can do with it! As stated in another review it is loud! The tonal range is quite impressive. I bring my zoom 2.1u pedal over as my friend doesn't have any effects, and we have been really impressed with how good it sounds with any effect! A very nice amp for not a bad price.

Buy This Amp

By Jason

from Los Altos, CA

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I first have to say I got lucky- about four years back when I purchased this amp, I had no idea what I wanted in an amplifier. I was, at that time, running out of a Line Six Spider 30w solid state, and the only thing I knew was that I wanted to go tube. I had a friend who recommended the AC30, and without even playing through it, I ordered it from guitarcenter and awaited it's arrival. That's about the biggest gamble I've ever made when buying musical equipment, and, luckily, it paid off. This amp is the ONLY amp I would never sell or trade away. There are three things that make this amp great: 1. The vintage look/mojo: I've gotten countless compliments on the diamond grille of the AC30. It just has a vibe to it that is attractive in any genre. Also, if you want an amp that makes you look like a "legit" musician, this one has a reputation for being used by legendary rock players. 2. Pedals: If you're an effects geek like I am, then you'll appreciate the fact that the AC30 can be used with any pedal. Most will recognize that that some dirt pedals don't agree well with Fender amps, and some wah-wahs don't sit well with the dark tone of Marshall JCM's. With the AC30, there's none of that. Every single effects pedal I've used with the AC30 has sounded at least good, but in most cases great. It loves fuzz/boost pedals, which will adopt the character of the AC30 when used with it. 3. Simplicity: I can't speak for everybody, but I personally hate amps that have more than twenty knobs/switches. The AC30 sits at a comfortable 10. It's intuitive, and covers a broad range of tones with only a few controls. For me, this is the dream in an amplifier. No matter where I set the knobs, it will sound good. Obviously there are some sweet spots, particularly with the channel volume knobs, but the point is that you don't need to overly tweak it to get killer tones. On top of this, the amp is dependable, easy to mic, and powerful enough to play any club un-miked (though miking is preferable). There are a few downsides though. The stock tubes aren't the best, so I would recommend swapping them out. I personally am enjoying the JJ's that I have in the power stage, and the NOS 12ax7 and hybrid 12ax7 tubes in the preamp. Also, it is pretty loud, no matter how you dial in the master volume. There's no headphone output, so you don't want this as a home practice amp. This is a piece of gear for the gigging musician. On top of this, it does have a characteristic tone. I consider this a plus, as I love the inherent character of the amp. Some may see this as a downside. It's closer to the Fender sound than the Marshall stack sound, to provide some guidance, but all in all it's a different beast entirely. I love Fender twins/princetons, as well as old Supro and Valco amps, but the Vox AC30 will always be my goto amp.

Counrty, Rock and Blues... This amp brings out like no other.

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

previously before buying this amp i was at a point in my music to where i was opening a "new" door. Have been playing for 5 years. This amp has completely changed my style of playing drastically from where i was before. I play this amp with the satchinator( joe satriani's distortion pedal) and a Delay pedal. I still have not used the external cabinet option on the amp, or utilized all the things one can do with it and i still have to say this is a absolutely proffesional amplifier! This amp is anything from studio material, to all out adrenalin pumping shredding on stage. Sounds absolutely great for that country slap chicken pickin' and on the flip side sounds great with a wide range of overdrive and tone and it sounds even better with those jazzy blues chords! Very heavy amp, Very Loud, But Very Evident and Clear. For the weight issure... dont buy this for just practice. Owned currently for 3 months.

The perfect amp!

By Ricardo Siguenza

from New Orleans, Louisiana

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I don't even know where to start but I'll try.. this amp is just perfect! I purchased it today, and was privileged enough to play it for the first time today at church! But first let me give you some info. on how I came to purchase this amp. Originally, I was gonna go with a Fender Blues Junior NOS and my second choice was a Vox AC15C1, but at my local Guitar Center, they had no AC15s in stock and only one NOS Blues Junior but the reverb was broken. However, I ran across this amp and saw that it was on a nice sale of 800$ and I had a coupon to take off an additional 75 dollars, so I figured I'd give her a try. All I can say is that this amp sounds heavenly and just sings with my Strat! It has a very sparkling and pristine clean sound that I just loved. I am a HUGE clean player and this amp has a NICE amount of clean headroom available, but can also give you some beautiful over driven tones if needed! I play a lot of John Mayer and Neo Soul/R&B type of music on my own time, and this amp offers me a beautiful clean tone to achieve what I'm looking for. However, at church I play a variety of different types of music from worship, to rock, to shout/gospel, to blues. This amp can deliver me all of those tones that I need! Pictures and reviews don't do this amp justice. In person, it is just absolutely GORGEOUS and sounds even BETTER! I recommend EVERYONE to at least give it a thought if you have the money. PLEASE give it a try out.. you WON'T be disappointed. This amp will be my main and possibly only amp until it dies out, which I don't think will be ANYTIME soon or in my lifetime for that matter! haha

Amazing tone, look no further.

By michael gattus

from Forest Hill, MD

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is downright amazing, not even considering the very fair price on it. The clean tone on it is unbelievable, I actually plug my Taylor 816ce acoustic guitar into it use my effects pedals without having to keep an acoustic amp around. It sounds perfect, not much of a difference from the Fishman amp I was previously using. With the AC30 you get the ridiculously clean tone you've been looking for with the ability to get some good overdrive on the top boost channel...it's kind of like playing with a Fender twin reverb, you aren't going to get super heavy tone out it plugged in directly, but that's why they make effect pedals. You also get an effect loop on it to keep true bypass when you want nothing but a clean tone. I've had great lucky with a Fulltone OCD for heavy stuff and a TS-8 & TS-9 for cleaner overdrive. I keep a Xotic EP Booster at the front of my chain as well, stepping on that with an overdrive turns this amp into a Jekyll and Hyde type of situation, no problem matching sound from killswitch engage to avenged sevenfold down to Beatles or zeppelin tone. I personally feel that no amp can be everything to everyone as far as the overdrive side goes, so I rate them by the clean side and the amount of headroom they have...holy hell, I haven't been able to turn this guy over 6 without worrying about someone calling the cops or me ending up with hearing damage. It's the perfect canvas to play any style of music you love, just pick out your effects and tailor your perfect sound!

Vintage Sound

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Just want to say this amp is a match made in heaven!! I have been playing for 20 years played fenders, marshall and was looking for an amp just to plug straight into. This amp does it all. The Vox Ac30 c2 has so much tone shaping capabilities you can get a awesome jazz, blues, and classic rock sound just messing with the knobs. Typical amps cant achieve this with the typical volume mid and bass knobs this amp has so many controls the tones are endless!! The celesation green back speakers are worth the price alone and the overdrive is priceless. Bye the way the looks of the amp is intimadating. Vox hit a home run with this amp the best piece of gear I have ever owned. All I can say is wow!! If your a player thats looking for that classic black crowes, revolver beatles and scholfield jazz welcome home!!Thanks Vox Niced work!!

This is it!

By Kurt Coste

from New Orleans, Louisiana

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

The search is over. Those ever-elusive sounds you've tried and tried again to achieve over the years, are here in this amplifier! Big, lush, clean, crunchy, solid - this thing is like driving a freaking Ferrari, and will go any speed you command, in any gear, from comfortable volumes, to ridiculously loud. Go for the AC30C2 over the AC15C2 - you'll enjoy the head room on the cleaner side. Unlike EVERY other amp I've used sporting this kind of power to deafen between zero and 1.5, the gain staging here is impeccable, with a very nice, usable gradation. You can actually grab the knobs and give them a good turn, without fear that the smallest changes will blow the windows out (like with my Fender DeVille). Once you've dialed in the perfect sound, you're kind of stuck with it, though switching amongst pickups seems exponentially more expressive here than with other amps. It would have been really nice to have a foot switch between the normal and top boost channels, and I am still baffled as to why this was not a feature. I ordered a Whirlwind A/B selector in an attempt to achieve this, as there are 2 (actually 4) separate 1/4" inputs on the amp. I also can't imagine why the control panel would read upside down, as I don't know of anyone who stands behind their amp while playing. Still, as for pure, quality sounds of all kinds, I can't say enough about what Vox has achieved with this amplifier.

Amazing!!!

By Luis Morales

from South Gate, California

Comments about Vox Custom AC30C2 30W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Well to start off, this is my first tube amp. I had a vt40 which isnt too bad I like the tone but I needed more power and came across this. it left me quite speechless, huge step up from my vt40. This AC30 may only have 30 watts but it doesnt act like it has 30 watts but more. Only problem I have is that its just a little bit on the heavy side, maybe its just me that I dont workout much(lol). If you need something that will be nice and loud but keep clean tones this is defenitly for you, though it can get quite crunchy as well. I wouldnt recommend this for metal. as for reliablity I still dont know since I just got it today.

Well I went to Guitar Center to see what they would give me on my 50 year old Fender tube amp. They were VERY fair. I ended up leaving with this AC30 & a new Telecaster. The AC30 just sounds beautiful. All my guitars sound extra musical somehow through it. You really have to hear one for yourself. I wanted an AC15 but they made me such a great deal on this I just couldn't pass it up. Guitar Center will really work for your business, Chris & Brian in the Gwinnett Ga store really go the extra mile to make you happy. I am!

I picked this up from GC about two weeks ago and it sounds great. It has its own sound but if you want the VOX sound this is the amp to get. It is a little too heavy to move but that is not what I bought it for. Make sure you order the foot pedal and get a patch cable to patch the normal and top boost channels together.
