An Evolution in Tone
Vox Custom amps offer 2 channels: Normal and Top Boost. Each channel is equipped with its own Volume control, and the Top Boost channel offers highly interactive Treble and Bass tone controls. This powerful channel pairing provides an abundance of tone-crafting control, letting you dial in a classic sound that is all your own.

Both channels share master Tone Cut and Volume controls. The Tone Cut control operates in the power stage rather than the preamp stage, allowing an additional degree of tone shaping. The Master Volume control works in conjunction with the individual volumes of each channel to create just the right degree of gain staging. By balancing the individual and Master volumes, the Vox Custom Amps can deliver everything from a clean Vox "chimey" sound to a powerful overdriven tone.

Sound in Motion
You can sweeten the sound of your Custom Series amplifier using the Vox Classic Tremolo, with adjustable speed and depth. A warm Spring Reverb is also included on all Custom Series guitar amps, adding spaciousness to the sound. All Vox Custom amplifiers can use the Vox VFS2 footswitch, allowing you to turn the Reverb and Tremolo effects on and off as you continue to play.

Power Sharing
The Vox AC15C1 combo makes use of three 12AX7 preamp tubes and uses a pair of EL84 tubes to drive a single 12" Celestion G12M Greenback. All guitar amps in the Vox Custom Series offer a switchable 8/16-ohm output jack for powering an external speaker cabinet when you need to speak with a little more authority; using this jack will mute the internal speakers. Additionally, a second extension speaker jack allows you to run an extra 16-ohm cabinet along with the internal speakers for a fuller sound.

It seems everyone who is interested in this amp are in the dark. There are no consumer reviews of it anywhere. So I hope this helps someone. I have owned anything from all tube Laney to Marshall amps and still own a Vox AD120VT, which is the reason why I bought this amp. Because all I ever ended using were the Vox models. Anyway I am very impressed with this amp! The normal channel sounds great, but then you plug your guitar (I'm using a Tele deluxe with Humbuckers)into the Top boost and wow! A whole new world of chime heaven. Very warm, rich, dimensional, and articulate. and very big in sound for it's size. For a 15 watt amp this little guy is really loud! I set this amp up next to my AD120VT balls to the walls both amps at level 10 and the AC15C was holding close to even with the AD120VT (120 watts). This does not make sense to me! I guess true that tube watts are louder than Solid State watts. You can easily play with a loud drummer with this amp and still have some clean volume before break up. I also liked the overdrive. When the Top boost channel was gained out the break up was thick and warm. There were a lot of complaints about the Vox AC Custom Classic series reverb being to big and washy. I don't know if Vox used the same reverb tank in this amp. It too seems a little big, but I like it. Think of the opening theme guitar riff of Shine On You Crazy Diamond. As for eq there is a tone cut knob for the main volume (power amp section) that gives you some control of any treble harshness you might have. The Top boost channel is more versatile then the Normal channel it also has Treble and a bass knob to tweak it's preamp's section. Before I bought this I thought I would need to get some good tubes for it, but it sounds great the way it is and I'm sure Vox designed the amp circuits around the tubes they would use in production. I can't wait to try out some Mullards and Tung sols in it after the warrenty expires. The only thing I wish this amp had was pedal jack to switch between the 2 channel, but it's Ok that can be done with an a/b pedal switcher. Aside from that I am very happy with every thing about this amp and I feel like a made a great choice in buying it. I would definitely recommend it.

ac15c1 Good luck getting one without any undesirable noises. I'm sure they are out there. The two that I tried both had a sneaky frequency issue that sounded like chirping crickets. A high pitched noise would soar over the (lower pitched) notes played. The sound was inherent to both amps - I tried them in multiple locations with multipe guitars with both amps and then I tried them in the clean sound room at the guitar center. I like the sound of these amps but I'm hesitant to drop the money for a "custom" made one.

Vox Nailed this one!!

By MKnauf

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C1 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Just got mine in and I bought it off a hunch and some demo videos not being able to find one to play before I purchased; for some reason they seem to be all sold out... hmmm... ;-) Anyway being a really picky amp guy and builder of boutique stuff I have to say this amp really gets that 'boutique' tone - needless to say I am really happy with my purchase, I know I couldn't have built an amp this good for what I paid for it!!! The upgrades from the CC are astounding - I played one the other day and it sounded like a toy in comparison. The greenback and addition of the 'normal' channel really makes it. Also I think Vox did some tweaking to the reverb, which is strong, but has a decent tone. I also played a handwired AC15TV model a few days before looking for one of these and I have to say I like the top boost channel on this one better! I think with the solid state rectifier it just sounds a little better - you can give a little extra bass without it getting too tubby on you. So in summary... the tone is far above your average commercial amp in my opinion. The build quality seems great, the speaker choice is excellent (I did try it with a celestion blue 1x12 cab using the extension jack and I really dig the tone from the greenback and I'm sure it will get better with age), and the features are perfect... I love having the trem and reverb onboard! If you like British rock tones, buy one of these just because it is a steal - tone per buck it would be hard to beat!

Only 15 Watts ??

By Doug M

from Colonie, NY

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C1 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Who needs a 100W amp these days when you have a 15W amp that sounds this good ? People are always thinking more watts is better; well, let me tell you, 15 in this package is all you need. This amp sounds great at low volume and high. Warm and rich with that unmistakable 'Old School' British sound. I tried out a couple higher wattage tube amps before deciding on the AC15C1. Effects loop would have been nice, but for the money, this amp has everything you need to practive at home or play out at the local venue. Two thumbs up.

The Search is Over

By Greg Miles

from Henderson, NV

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C1 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

About six months ago, I began my search for a great-sounding tube amp for home use. I had been playing my American Deluxe Stratocaster on my Line-6 Spider for nearly seven years, and felt it was time to graduate to that true analog sound that only a tube amp can produce. I had no idea how difficult the decision would be. I test-drove several reputable low-wattage tube amps, including the Peavey C30, the Fender Blues Junior and the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I even tried a Crate Vintage Club 30. None of them handled the single coil noise produced by my Strat very well, and I had a difficult time generating the kind of tone that I had envisioned from a quality tube amp. I then tried a Vox AC15 at GC. It sounded absolutely incredible on the showroom floor. I decided to take one home, a little skeptical that it would sound as good at home. I was not disappointed. My search was finally over. This amp sounds like it was specially made for my Strat. It is easy to get a wide range of great tones, even at low volume. This is true whether playing clean or with a board full of pedals. The Celestion green back speaker is definitely in a class of its own. The spring reverb sounds every bit as good as the much-accoladed reverb on the Fender amps, and the built-in tremolo provides an option that most amps in this price range lack. I would highly recommend the AC15 to anyone who is looking for a home or practice amp. It will not disappoint.

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C1 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is amazing. I am a super picky guy when it comes to sound and amps. This one has surpised me very much!! The sound is loud and warm. It has a few effects on it, but more just a clean sounding amp. Mix it with my tele and I am rocking the house out. I highly recommend this amp to any player.

Great amp! Tubes>solid state

By Oliver

from Kirkland, WA

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C1 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I love this amp. Solid states and hybrids are no comparison to the tone that this tube amp gives. Although it is rated at 15w, this amp is LOUD. WAY louder than a 15w, even a 30w solid state amp. The built in tremelo is fun to play around with, and I like how there is a master volume, so that you can play distorted without waking up your neighbors. The two channels (normal and top boost) are great. I personally prefer the top boost. This amp has got the sound and looks of the British Invasion, so if that's the kind of music you play, GET ONE OF THESE AMPS! You will not regret it!

Love this amp. BUY IT!

By Andrew

from Modesto, CA

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C1 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is hands down the finest amp at this price point. It is so warm, yet still has that bright british sound we all strive for. I play a MIM tele with Bill Lawrence Keystones and a 4way switch plus a p90 SG jr. I run it through a compressor, then a tube screamer, then into an A/B that I made to switch between the Normal and Top Boost Channels. An A/B/Y wouldve been nice too to blend them. The reverb is a bit much on it, but the tone provided by the amp far outweighs the reverb. Don't get me wrong, the reverb does what its supposed to do, but I felt there is a lack of control with it. It comes on very strong. I walked into guitar center and bought this amp based on the fact that it was 10x nicer than the custom classic based on the few update features alone. I was not disappointed and you won't be either. Unless youre into metal or something. You can crank the master and hope for some of the power amp warmth, which it provides nicely. Or you can keep the master low and crank the channels and really get some dirt into your sound. Very versatile amp with the tone cut + the additional interactive EQ on the top boost channel.

MADE IN HEAVEN!

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C1 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I finally Got the one I wanted. Every time I went to guitar center to test a guitar, I plugged in to a lot of amps, but kept coming back to the AC15C1. The sound is flawless. I own a Fender and a Marshall, but I knew I had to spring for the AC15C1. Got it home, the first thing I noticed was that it was a great looking piece of furniture. Can't beat that classic VOX styling. I plugged in my Telecaster and started to play and that pure perfect sound started to fill up the space, I knew I had made the right choice. Normal is Awesome, Top Boost, incredible, put in a touch of reverb...WOW! anyone looking for a Great sounding Great looking Amp...Look no further, this is the one!

AC15, a guitar-man's dream.

By Reed Harji

from Calumet, MI

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C1 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

When I saw the beatles on Ed Sullivan in '64, I've dug Vox amps, just the way they look, classy and regal. Being a pro and now semi pro musician, name an amp and I've had it. From Silvertones to Marshall, Fender and Laney etc, I finally bought the reissue AC15 C1 one year ago and instantly fell in love. It's an infinite tweaker's dream, unbelievable power and tone. I run it along with my Marshall 50 watt on a select switch, miked for stage, but use the AC15 alone in our studio due to its quiet and clean sound, no big line noise like the Marshall and the cut-through distortion of the Vox is goosebumpable. Finally fulfilled a dream and it is good.

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C1 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Bought a Fender Elite Strat and wanted an all tube amp to go along with. Had an old VOX VT30 that was sufficient, but didn't give me that "tube" sound I was looking for. I love the AC15. Yes it's loud. I can see how someone would be able to gig with it. But I'm playing in my basement and I've yet to wake my 3yr old twins up. The master volume is key to that. I can adjust the TB volume and just lower the master. DONE! As for my VT30. I still have it. I actually played the AC15 and AC15TB selections on the VT30 in comparison. Although they made a great attempt, once they are side by side, you can clearly tell the difference. The price you pay for such a nice amp is well worth it. I'm not a "tone hound" by any means, but the VOX just sounds great to me. I do not gig or anything like that. I just play in my house. This was perfect. I initially was looking at going all out and grabbing the AC30. But went for this instead. It's basically the same thing except more power on the AC30. I read a bunch of threads about people saying to get the 15 instead of the thirty. They're right. Unless you want the extra features of the 30, the 15 fits the bill perfectly. As for pedals, I only have 3 that I use and they work great with the amp. Very versatile, great sound, great looks, etc. I'm a happy man.
