Overview

The VOX AC4TVmini tube guitar combo amp joins the AC4TV, AC4TV8 and AC4TVH as the newest “ and most diminutive “ member of the modern AC4 family. Based on the popular VOX AC4 from the 1960s, these all-tube practice amps have been factory-modded with a premium transformer and select components for optimum tone. Equipped with an original VOX design 6.5" speaker, the AC4TVmini is an easy way to enjoy the serious vintage sound you expect from VOX.

The original AC4, reborn with today's technology
The AC4TVmini improves on the hardware of its vintage counterpart. This up-to-date Class A version retains the distinctive EL84 power tube of the original and features a 12AX7 powered pre-amp, delivering the pure British tone that's loved by all. By adjusting the volume and tone settings, you can create a broad range of tones “ from a sweet, clean sound to that distinctive VOX overdrive sound.

Switchable output level: Crank it up and turn it down!
In the past, the only way to obtain great-sounding distortion using a single volume knob was to simply crank the volume. The AC4TVmini provides an attenuator switch that allows the output power to be set at 4 Watts, 1 Watt or even 1/10th of a Watt. This convenient and ear-saving feature allows the AC4TVmini to create a real, musically satisfying distortion “ even at the lowest power setting. You'll be able to enjoy playing to your heart's content with your favorite tone late at night, in your dorm room “ wherever! Extremely portable, the AC4TVmini is also ideal for recording, jamming with friends, rehearsals, and more.

Small and stylish
Today's modern AC4 Series “ including the AC4TVmini “ borrows the retro-chic "TV" front styling that first appeared on the classic 1958 AC15. This vintage VOX design is still in use on today's AC15HTV from the VOX Heritage Collection. Stylish, clean, and classic, the AC4TVmini will look great anywhere your music takes you.

It was okay at first

By Jordan Miller

from Spanaway, WA

Comments about Vox AC4TVmini 4W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

To be honest, when I bought this amp about a year ago it sounded great. But over the course of about a week, it started to sound horrible. The tubes started taking forever to warm up, and I just could not get a decent sound out of it. At the time, I thought it was a great deal for a "Vintage" vox.. But, I guess I was wrong :(

The little amp (AC-4) that couldn't.

By Greg Walker

from Lexington, KY

Comments about Vox AC4TVmini 4W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

When this amp first came out I was very excited to have a Vox quality tube amp for a family friendly amp that I could use a boost/plexi pedal for some low volume "plexi" tone. No more modeling for me! At first I could get rather bland clean tones (tubes? what stinking tubes?) but soon found out the 6.5in Celestion speaker did not like gain pedals. After a short time, the speaker was gone (warrenty covers for only 90 days!) In short, THIS TUBE AMP in this price range does not deliver the promise of quality all tube amp for everyman. I guess I could buy a $300 transformer (and new speaker) to make the amp sound like a $600.00 amp, go figure.

Judge it for what it is

By Federico

Comments about Vox AC4TVmini 4W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This is a small, low wattage, high quality tube practice amp with a vintage circuit. It isn't trying to be anything that it isn't - it doesn't have tremelo or reverb or presence or blah blah blah. That's not why you would buy it. You would buy it if you want clean->dirty tube drive done well. The pre-amp circuit is genius because it allows you to drive the amp hard and get that vintage tube crunchiness really easily. If you want tube overdrive set it to 1/4 watt; if you want clean set it to 4 watts - which is *PLENTY* for a little tube practice amp. I have even played it practicing with a band with a full kit. One good upgrade can be to find a vintage NOS Mullard or Telefunken 12AX7 on ebay. I have found the quality of the preamp to go through the roof the second that the Russian tube is out of the circuit. But don't judge this amp next to a Fender Twin Reverb or a Marshall stack. It's a simple little and freaking killer little tube dude.

it is what it is

By Ken Binkley

from Coldwater Mi

Comments about Vox AC4TVmini 4W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I tried this amp out while trying out guitars at GC and was not very impressed with it. I was playing semi hollowbodies, les pauls, Jacksons etc. on it. I can't beleive that you would want to turn this thing down to a tenth watt! The sound is clean but not hardly any adjustments. Just a volume, tone and wattage controls. I does what its supposed to I guess, but I would spend my money on a non tube amp before I would buy one of these.

Lots of Fun

By Colin Tams

from Bordentown, NJ

Comments about Vox AC4TVmini 4W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

As long as you don't expect a 6.5 inch speaker to sound like a 4x12, you'll be pleasantly surprised by this mighty mite. In fact, even set at 1/10th watt, this thing is pretty loud. The first thing I did was open it up and replace the tubes with NOS 12ax7 and el84s. This amp is really very versatile in the sounds that you can get from it.

Comments about Vox AC4TVmini 4W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Good amp, but do not buy from guitar center. They sent me a clearly used one with a non-original cord and no box or manual. When I called they said it was a display unit, and that they considered that "new." Then they wouldn't even send me a shipping label to return the thing.

Love the multiple watt switch. Great for not disturbing the neighbors. On 4 watts this baby is pretty dang loud.

Comments about Vox AC4TVmini 4W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

WIth anything, you need the right tool for the right job. This amp is great for playing in small restaurants, especially for a solo or duo, but also works well with bigger groups that don't want to blast everyone's ears. I play a bit of jazz, a bit of 60's rock, and some older country, and it's so nice not to have to bring a big amp with me. With a loud drummer, it's not loud enough, but it's fine with a tasteful drummer in a jazz group. The Mini version is just as loud as the 10 inch version, and even louder than the 8 inch version. It doesn't have a lot of low end, but it works great for what I do. I've had a lot of tube amps, but this one is the one I use most often. If I played big clubs, I would use the AC10 or Pro Jr instead.
