I've been playing for over 30 years. Bought this amp a month ago. I also own Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and a Egnater Rebel 30 head and bottom. The Fender is great but too much power for my needs as I record my original rock/blues tunes in my home studio and I mic the amps rather than using software to get the tones I'm looking for. The Egnater works beautifully because I can vary the wattage. This little Vox is outstanding in the studio. Clean tones are outstanding. Turn the volume and the gain up and this amp drips the blues. I have American Fenders and Gibson LP's and the amp works equally well with either. It also takes pedals very well. If you are looking for a great little amp with more than enough power for a studio this is it. For the price you won't find any better tone. This is definitely a keeper.
Just picked one of these up, and I am blown away! Plugged my Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 in and found myself lost for over an hour before I knew it! Very responsive to pick attack, the cleans are full of chime and clarity...then run the gain up and that junkyard jangle will have your inner rock child throwing up the horns! I would recommend this to anyone looking for that great VOX sound in a compact amp!
This amp has a great sound and has enough versatility. I have used it over the last year. I am always happy with sound coming out of it. More than enough volume for practice.
This is a nice little practice amp. Sounds very good. I listened to many small low-watt tube amps recently and I liked this as one of the best in the price range. It just has a very nice sound. Its not quite as good as the sound of the AC15 I listened to right next to this one, but it was close for half the cost. And for my use at home, I really don't need anything louder than what the AC4C provides. This amp is just a nice little, attractive package. No its not meant to Gig with and no it doesn't have a 12" speaker, nor does it have built in reverb (which would increase the price). But with a 100 different pedals available you can add any effect you want. I have a nice Fender amp too, but a guy needs more than one amp to play with right!
The perfect practice amp. Throw any pedal on it and it sounds amazing. It's also great for pushing the tubes at low volumes for recording. Love.
When the "British Invasion" came in the 60's, Vox was what they rode in on. I have always wanted an all tube Vox, and this does great for my purposes. It's small, not too heavy, very cool looking, and can stand head to head with my friend's Marshall Class 5. You should know this is a very "bright" amp and paired with my Les Paul with '57 Classic pick-ups can be too bright, but that's what tone knobs are for. The cleans are very clean, the dirt is great but not death-metal. You do need some form of reverb, and this amp responds to my Vox Stomplab 2G extremely well, expanding my range of tone exponentially. The Marshall has no gain control, so is useless for dirt at all but the loudest settings. This is a huge advantage for the Vox, even over the other AC4. I'm pleased and proud to finally have an all tube VOX !
This Amp is fantastic. I just ordered a second for my office (yeah I have two of these now). It has all the tone and guts of a much larger amp, but it is practical for artists who want to practice at lower volume levels. I have a bigger amp for performances, but I'm even considering taking this little guy to the smaller gigs to keep stage volume under control. For those of you who are tracking, I'm sure you will like the simplicity of this amp in setting your tone up and recording a true Vox sound. It has surprising low end, thanks to the 10" celestion. And it has that Vox sparkle at the top end. Also, you won't find any better-looking amp in this price range (except, perhaps, if you can find the green version of this amp). Enjoy!
I traded in an old Fender Frontman 25G for this at one of guitar centers used gear expo and I could not be happier. It has great Vox tone with that Vox "Chime" and when you turn up the gain you get a great overdrive tone. For the price I'm not 100% sure about considering you can get an AC15 for a couple hundred more but if you're looking for a great little practice amp this is the one. I look forward to adding a good amount of effect pedals to this since it is a very straight forward amp with no built in effects.
This little guy is a beast, all tube warmth with an unbelievable speaker. The Blue and Gold just gives it that little extra gotta have look. This isn't a typical AC4 it is much loader, cleaner, break up volume is up around full volume half gain. It has enough push to keep you happy in the studio, but you'll need a cab outside of that. Very well built amp, top notch quality you'd expect from Vox. It is built in the C world but as far as that goes it's quality is very well controlled through Vox. Simple no nonsense amp that will really impress you with the sound quality. I've been running this thing daily for a few weeks and the tubes seem to be breaking in nicely adding a little extra low end. Great weight, however where in the world can you store the power cord? Had to attach a little Velcro to hold that up but that's just me. Love it, not my first Vox by any accounts, but quickly becoming a favorite!
