Overview

The AC10C1 is an all-tube 10-watt amplifier that joins VOX's flagship lineup of tube amps, the Custom Series. More portable than the AC15 and more powerful than the AC4, the AC10C1 provides an array of classic VOX tones and comes equipped with studio-quality reverb and a master volume.

The AC10 was one of the first amplifiers to bear the VOX name and was available only for a short period of time in the early 1960s. Long adored for its ability to achieve rich, articulate tube tone at very manageable volumes, the AC10 has become a highly coveted piece of VOX history since it's discontinuation in 1965. Now, in 2015, VOX is proud to reintroduce the AC10C1 and provide players with an easy way to enjoy the legendary VOX top boost sound. Enhancements include reverb and a master volume, the AC10C1 is the perfect companion for the home, studio or stage.

Features
  • EL84 power tubes; 12AX7 preamp tubes
  • Custom 10" VX10 speaker made by Celestion
  • Simple but effective Gain, Bass, Treble, Reverb, and Master Volume controls

I purchased this amp a few days ago because i wanted another small watt amp for the smaller places i play and i got to say this amp is awesome! It has fantastic tone and a whole lotta punch for only a 10 inch speaker! If your looking at this review wondering how this amp sounds, well it sounds very similar to an AC30. Nice highs, powerful lows, pleasant mids! I find myself having to turn down the lows a lot just because this amp can produce so much bass! Overall just a great amp! I own a Blues Jr. and this amp in my opinion is the better amp to own! It takes pedals really nicely and can be driven really well! Also this amp is really well built. Just like any other Vox amp, the craftsmanship is meant to last! I had to write this review because i wanted to let people know just how good this amp is! I own several really nice amps including an AC30, Blues Jr, and Hot Rod Deluxe and for the price of $450 there is no reason to pay more when you can get a better product for less! In my opinion this is the best low watt amp under 15 watts you can get today! And I'm so happy Vox finally made one! So do yourself a favor and try one out and trust me you will be bringing it home!

This is the second Vox AC10 I've ordered this month. The sound is beautiful but while playing on low E and A some notes producing buzzing sound almost like something is loose inside the tube (lightbulb sounding buzz) took first one back to the store played different guitars same thing buzzing is still there.Sales Associates were also confused and confirmed that there is a buzzing there, so it's not just me not the cable and not the guitar. Played on different settings with or without Rev. Mose bass less bass. The only time You will not hear buzzing when overdrive all the way up. I'm Playing the blues with overdrive 30%to 50% .I Ordered the second one, Same thing. Very disappointed cause I really like this amp,I'm going back to the store and will be exchanging for AC4

Comments about Vox AC10 10W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I ended up returning mine. It does sound good. It does 1 main trick, but that is it. Turning it up louder, the sound start to fall apart (cab design?), so I don't think this is very gig worthy. Others have been ok with it, but I think you're better off just spending a little more and getting an AC15 instead

Comments about Vox AC10 10W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I've owned this amp for nearly a year now and I have to say, it might be one of my favorites I've ever owned. Don't let the small package fool you - 10 watts of tube power can get loud, easily enough to keep up with a drummer at practice. If you're worried about playing gigs with such a small amp, don't. If you're playing at any decent venue, they always mic up the amp anyway. It has separate volume and gain knobs, so you can keep it cleaner at higher volumes or get breakup at bedroom levels, which is perfect for me since I live in a city apartment with roommates. I often keep the volume knob at around 9:00 and the gain knob around 10:00, and that's plenty enough volume for me when my roommates aren't home.

I think the thing I love best about this amp is the sound. When you plug in a Strat, it sounds like a Strat. a Les Paul sounds like a Les Paul. Unlike other amps in its class, this amp really retains the sound qualities of the guitar instead of the amp itself taking over the sound. The breakup on this amp is phenomenal. It honestly sounds pretty close to some of the $1000+ boutique amps I've owned in the past. The gain doesn't get too broken up even at the max setting, but it sounds great. If you need more gain, just chuck a pedal in front of it.

The digital reverb is maybe the only caveat I have with this amp. When set to a lower setting (around 9:00 or so), it sounds great, and rivals some spring reverbs. However, anything past say 10:00 and it becomes too spacey. I wish Vox had made the reverb knob on this amp have more of an incremental difference, instead of having it max out so early on at 10:00.

Other than that, though, this amp is near perfect. I seem to have been lucky in getting a good one right out of the factory, as I have not experienced any hiss or rattle, and I have been playing on the stock tubes for a year now. I presume that once they go and I upgrade the tubes, this amp will sound even better. I own the tan version and it's a beauty.

Comments about Vox AC10 10W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Yes, it truly has great sound, is very loud, is very portable, all the good things others have written are true. However, as some (if not many) have written about, it's a gamble that the amp you get will not have the rattle, crackle, hiss, that is also written about. They and the two AC4TV Mini's that I previously had all had this sound when hitting the low notes on any guitar. After an internet study, I opted to order two JJ Electronics EL84 Power tubes, and 2 Tung-Sol 12AX7 PreAmp tubes. So now, it is every bit the amp it should be, just bummed that I had to spend $65 to get it to the quality it should have been from the factory. Vox should just put quality tubes in and not risk their good name on a gamble with cheap tubes.

It is not versatile amp and it is the pleasure of it! Very powerful amp (you can run this amp in gigs) with a lot of chime. No difference between an Ac15 and the Ac10, if you except the 5 watts.

I needed an amp that has great tone and wont break my back. This one has it all. It has enough power to hold its own in a practice session and is easy to tote. It's a Vox and the coolness factor is way up there.

Comments about Vox AC10 10W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

A Blues Jr was my main amp for about three years. It was time to try something different. I'm not into distortion gain metal. I play country, blues, classic rock. This amp has fantastic tones. Quite portable. It will do a small club easily. I would think a jazz mellow guitarist would love this amp. Ten tube watts is not like solid state watts. This amp can get pretty loud. I love it. I use an Ibanez tube screamer instead of the gain.
Service at San Bernardino store is always great. I've been buying there for years.

This amp isn't as loud as an AC15, but it sounds so much like it you'll be surprised. VOX did a good thing re-releasing this little amp. There are so many things to love about this amp, but I'm constantly impressed at how much it gives while staying clean.
