Drawing on Joe Satrianis knowledge accumulated from decades of groundbreaking performances, both live and in the studio, VOX unveils a breakthrough in guitar tone in The Satchurator distortion pedal. Designed to Satrianis exact specification, the Satchurator produces Satrianis signature tone and adds features and improvements never before combined in a distortion pedal. After almost a year of painstaking experimentation and road testing, Satriani and the VOX R&D team discovered the secrets to capturing the ultimate distortion tone in a modern-day effects pedal. The Vox Satchurator is capable of very high gain levels, but operates more quietly and musically than many other modern distortion pedals. It also preserves the tone and pick attack regardless of style, while providing distortions from subtly distorted blues tones through classic rock and shred. "The Satchurator is the most musical, most dynamic, multi-function distortion pedal I've ever played through" says Satriani. "This little red box is a monster tone generator. Following my specifications without compromise, and adding design innovations I never thought possible, the VOX team has delivered exactly what I need for the stage and studio—a distortion pedal that responds to my touch, and produces a big, natural, harmonically rich tone compatible with any guitar/pedal/amp configuration."

The other guitar player in our band rarely used his, so I decided to give it a try. Now am wondering why he never uses it. Really pushes your amps tubes into the true overdrive distortion. One of the most musical sounding distortions I have ever heard. I love it. I play strats and this will "round out" the single coils and will make them ooze TONe. Can use this for any type of music. We play lots of rock and blues and this can flat out nail Texas Flood tones with the Gain all the way down. Its a ts808 on steroids...I guess you could say it picks up where the holy grail left off. Will be adding one to my pedal board.
After reading lots of reviews, I finally got it! I have a fender hs strat (mexican) running through a fender hot rod deville. (i think it's important to mention that in each review, because it gives people a reference point, plus some of the negative reviews i've read come from people with solid state amps). The deville sounds great clean, so I knew my starting point was solid. I plugged it in, put the gain up, tone down, and wow!. It was a tasty crunch. I spent the next 2 hours playing a variety of styles (satch, vh, srv, etc.) and I could find a good tone for each.
Although I love my amp's subtle distortion for some stuff, this thing takes it over the edge. Now i feel like i have the whole spectrum from clean, to overdrive, to serious distortion. I could only imagine that a les paul, or something with a real good humbucker could sound even better. The more button is cool, cause it add that little extra sustain for leads.
I've been working hard this last year on solidifying my sound. My lead tones in the bands I play for are known for being smooth, and tasteful, yet having that rock crunch to them when I need it. No pun intended, but I like to have a very saturated tone a lot of times. My pedal of choice for the last year has been an old Ibanez Soundtank PowerLead. The thing has amazing distortion tone for lead, but for my rhythm aspect of my tone, it just wasn't where I wanted it.
So onto my rig and how this pedal fits in: I'm playing a Schecter Tempest Custom as my main axe, running through a Kustom wAv 212 combo. I play in a Christian Praise Rock band, a church worship team, and an Alternative Hard Rock band. So I need some versatility on my board.
FEATURES: The Satchurator has that classic Joe Satriani tone, depending on how you dial the tone/gain settings. You can get anything from a slight crunch, to blues area gain, to all but high gain/metal distortions. Basically, if you have the gain set at moderate tones on this pedal, using the "more" switch will take your gain to 10. Also it boosts your signal a little bit, just enough to cut through a band for a smooth solo. the Satch and Vox did a GREAT job on this part. This pedal all around is a winner. Not to mention the vintage paint job and look of it is AWESOME.
QUALITY/RELIABILITY: I wouldn't worry about this pedal breaking on me. The footswitch buttons are liquid-smooth upon use. I was amazed and pleased with this. Being in a worship team, nothing kills an intimate worship song like the pop of a footswitch button being activated. If it was broken or stolen, I would buy another, hands down.
LOOK AND FEEL: As I said above, the vintage look of it with the knobs and the coloring is great. It's not any heavier then your normal pedals.
CONCLUSION: This is the best distortion pedal I've ever used. Don't hesitate to check one out. This is not the typical tinny, treble-filled cheap distortion that is out on the market today. It has vintage tone, look, and SO worth the money.
